Carpets in Karachi Posted: Fri October 9, 2009 08:10 PM UTC
I want to buy a high quality carpet as a gift to my parents and wonder if I should do it during a stop over in Karachi. I'm looking for a dark red Afghan style carpet in the size of 6-10 m2.
Is it reasonable to expect to by one for about usd 60 per m2. My wife is Turkish and very gifted in bargaining but it might be unlikely anyway.
Any input would be much appreciated!

Visiting Karachi after a long time Posted: Sun November 16, 2008 11:57 PM UTC
Hi all,
I'm visiting my birth place Karachi after living in Canada for 8 years. It's a long time and I'm expecting lots of changes out there. What I'm looking for is a little help in locating and arranging private affordable accommodation for myself like paying guest in a house or apartment for 2-3 weeks in December.
If you guys can guide me or refer me, I'll really appreciate it.
Thanks

American Visiting Karachi Posted: Sat September 13, 2008 06:17 AM UTC
Hello... I was wondering if anyone could provide some insight on Americans traveling to Karachi. Yes, I am America and my husband is Pakistani. We live in the US and want to travel to Karachi to visit and stay with his/my new family.
My question(s): Is it safe for an American to visit? I really don't look traditionally American (I have dark hair and eyes) and I'll be wearing a long shalwar kameez. What things should we look out for? We're not planing to do any sight-seeing, mostly just visit with family.
All I see is what the media covers and we all know how restrictive and inaccurate they can be. I understand the political situation, but frankly Pakistan has always had political issues....
Any comments/suggestions would be most apreciated as my husband has not been back in six years and is completely clueless.
Thanks!

Things to do overnight in the international terminal Posted: Sat May 10, 2008 01:38 PM UTC
I am travelling through Jinnah Terminal on my way to London in august. I don't want to pay the visa price to stay in a hotel in Karachi so am staying from about 4pm until 12pm the next day before my connecting flight.
Does the Airport have showers?
Are there any comfortable seats to sleep on?
Do all the shops there only accept pakistani money?
How much money should I take?
Thank you for your time.

place to rest at Karachi airport outside immigration ? Posted: Fri April 4, 2008 09:04 AM UTC
Hello,
I have about 6 hours at Karachi airport,
to change from domestic flight to international.
It is a bit long time to sit and wait,
but short to spend the money for one night in the hotel.
I think airlines don't do check in 6 hours before departure time,
it means I can't go into airport through immigration.
Are there cafe or net-cafe or restaurant
outside the entrance of airport to sit and wait ?
Or any hotel to offer short stay per hour ?
I would appreciate your help !

Please Help: Want to Travel to Karachi from Mumbai Posted: Wed August 22, 2007 04:23 PM UTC
Hi All,
I tried everything to find about this..but in vain. I hope I will get some help
from here.
I am an Indian National working in Pune,India and I want to travel to Peshawar through Karachi(since Peshawar cant be an entry point according to Pak High Commission) to meet some friends. I tried to search for flights and I think, Mum to Karachi flights are available. Now, the main problem is getting a Visa.
Can anyone tell me, how to get the Visa easily. Can any travel agents do it
for me? I read on an official site that approved tour operators/travel agents
can get you the visa. Does anyone know of any?
I know I have to be present at the high commission office of Pakistan,New Delhi,
But before that I want to make sure that I have all the documents and all ready?
That is the reason I need a travel agent.
Another question is:
1. Do I need to have the tickets booked before applying for the visa? and
How logn will take to get it.
2. I am going there to meet some friends..not relatives. Does it create any
problems in visa processing?
I am new to this site..so I have no idea what kinda question to ask.
My apologies if my questions look dumb.
Thank you so much.
-Ahmed.

Electricity problem in Karachi Posted: Thu June 21, 2007 04:31 AM UTC
Hello,
I heard recently there is terrible electricity problem in Karachi.
I will soon arrive to Karachi and wondering
which hotel I should stay.
Usually hotels have their own generator ?
(guest house ? middle class hotel ?
of course good hotels have it ?)
or some specific areas there is no problem of loadshedding ?
Or I should stay close to the airport is it better ?
please suggest me some good place to stay.
Thank you.

Travel to Karachi Posted: Sat February 24, 2007 01:54 PM UTC
Hi everybody. I am a middle aged lonely retired man residing in Tehran. I like to travel to Karachi & stay there for 1-3 months & then go to Mumbai for the same purpose. I shall go to Karachi by bus/train from Iran. My aim is to tour, enjoy the life & to rest but as cheaper as possible. My budget is maximum about $ 400 per month for all the expenses including transport. I have not fixed a time for the travel yet.
I prefer to stay in a clean & safe lodge or in a room of a house rather than an expensive hotel. I like sea-side. I physically look like people of Indian subcontinent & can speak urdu-hindi mixed language spoken in Mumbai.
Please give me some tips on following Qs.
1) Can I find cheap & safe accommodation near the sea? What is its name/address? How much per a day?
2) Are there Iranian restaurants in Karachi like in Mumbai? Can u give a name/address?
3) Is there any passenger ship travelling between Karachi & India?
4)There is a railway link between Khokhrapar in Sindh(Pakistan) & Munabao in Rajasthan(India). Can I go to India by that way?

Returning to Karachi after 14 years Posted: Tue January 9, 2007 06:37 PM UTC
All,
I am planning to visit Pakistan after almost 1.5 decades.
I will be spending 3 weeks in PK between June or July.
I remember it being very hot and humid during that time, but it is possibly the only time I have available to visit.
I am assuming mangos will be available along with guavas and falsas, so I will be gorging on those as well as visiting BBQ tonight and Lal Killa (sp?).
But here are some questions:
1. has anyone actually been on a cruise in a sailboat from either the harbor or the yacht club (or boat club, etc) and if so how do I look up chartering a day trip as i am sure most of them are private ownership.
2. almost a follow up of the first question, what about sport fishing? is it available? I know there is a bait and tackle shop, but not if charters for that are available.... not much information on the web. I remember going on a "launch" from the harbor when i was young, but does karachi have any real power boats which can take you offshore fishing?
3. any either tour groups or eco tourism guides available and their web sites if possible?
4. a suggestion for a good outing for a day or two from khi to see the tombs, ruins, indus civ, etc.
5. how do i rent a beach house at the "french beach", or is it as it was before that you have to know someone who owns one of the huts?
6. Any info on spending a few days up north in chitral/ mountain area, etc for a quiet time soaking in God's beautiful canvas of mountains, glaciers and lakes? I would like to use that to recharge my batteries before ending my trip.
7. What else do you want to tell me (or ask me)?
Thanks,
AZGuy

Carlton Hotel, etc. Posted: Wed November 15, 2006 12:21 PM UTC
Hello from Dubai :-)
Will be in Karachi from 26th to 28th of December 2006.
Do any of you have the website address for the Carlton Hotel?
Or alternatively, a hotel recommendation NEAR the Carlton Hotel?
I will be attending a friend's wedding ceremony on the 27th in the Carlton Hotel, so would like to stay there or somewhere nearby (we're not millionaires, may I add, but nice & clean hotel would be appreciated...)

Hi,
I m planning to visit Karachi in this comming December, i have chosen Hotel Mehran to live, i need to know some of your comments on that hotel.
I have also heard a lot that some hotels use spy cameras to record all the activities going on the bedrooms and may be bathrooms. I dont know if its true or not but i just need comments on this.
