Affordable and fashionable clothing in NYC Posted: Sat November 7, 2009 08:25 PM UTC
Hi there
I am visiting New York in a few days and I can't wait. Of course whilst there I plan on doing a little shopping. I am hoping to find some clothing stores similar to Topshop in the UK, basically high street stores selling the latest fashions at affordable prices. Does anyone know what would be equivalent stores in New York?
Many thanks in advance.

From Newark to Washington DC and back Posted: Fri November 6, 2009 11:57 AM UTC
Hello everybody,
Myself and my boyfriend, we are going to NY at the end of December for a couple of weeks. We decided to visit Washington DC and Philadelphia too. We are flying into Newark Airport and thinking to go to Washington DC straight away, spend there 2 nights, than go to Philadelphia for 2 nights and only then go to NY (maybe stopping in New Jersey to do tax free shopping aswell). What would be the best travel option for us? Train? Bus? Or maybe we should hire a car and drive ourselves (money and time is important) :)
Sorry if this question isn't directly connected to NY, but I wasn't too sure where to post it and as long as our trip starts at Newark and finishes at Newark I've decided to post it here.
Thanks in advance for the answers.

Which airport? Posted: Fri November 6, 2009 03:47 AM UTC
I have the option of flying in to JFK or Newark. My hotel is located in Manhattan on West 58th Street. Which airport would be more advisable to fly into, in terms of distance to hotel and convenience?
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!!

New York to Chicago by Train Posted: Thu November 5, 2009 05:21 PM UTC
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone know if the train trip from New York to Chicago is good to take - it's supposed to be on a scenice route. The Train is the 'Lakeshore Limited' which goes daily.
This instead of flying..anybody know I'd really appreciate knowing. Main thing is we head West as might from Chicago hire a car and then go all the way through to Vegas. Just something different and maybe some nice stops on the way....Nice trip or rather just fly?
Many thanks!

Roosevelt Island Tram Posted: Thu November 5, 2009 04:20 PM UTC
I've only just found out about this.
Where can I get it? How do I get to it? (I am staying in Midtown).
Will it be open in March?
Is it possible to get on it and come back nearly straight away?
What is there to do on the island?
Sorry for all the questions!
Thanks

Bon Jovi Fan - New York City to Sayreville, New Jersey Posted: Tue November 3, 2009 04:42 PM UTC
Hi All,
As I've mentioned before I am coming over to NYC on 15th March for 5 nights - I am there for the St Patricks Day Parade and sightseeing.......
BUT I am also a big Bon Jovi fan and would like to maybe take a short trip to Sayreville, where Jon Bongiovi grew up?? Is this something that I could do? How long would it take to get there? Is there anything to do there? And how would I get around?
Any ideas?
Please advise.
Thanks

Spending money/buying & bringing home clothes Posted: Tue November 3, 2009 10:22 AM UTC
Hi guys,
I am coming over to NYC on 15th March 2010 til 20th March 2010.
I was just wondering if £1000 spending for myself would be enough.
I have already purchased my statue of Liberty tickets and I am hoping to buy the tickets for the Rockefeller Centre etc before I come over, so the £1000 will only be for my food/drink (I'm not looking to go to expensive places for that) and possibly clothes and souveneirs.
What do you think - do I need more?
Thanks in advance.

New years eve Posted: Sun November 1, 2009 06:31 AM UTC
We are two couples in our late 30's looking for somewhere to go on NYE (not outside at Times Square)for a meal and music. We are interested in top 40, rock'n'roll, blues and 80's music and italian, mexican, chinese and good ol american food. Would like somewhere that will at least show the ball dropping on TV. Have looked at Dave & Busters, Bourbon Street and fireworks at Central Park but having never been to NY before, am lost. Any helpful suggestions please.

Restaurants & Places of Interest Posted: Sat October 31, 2009 12:51 AM UTC
My sister, huband and their one year old are visiting NYC from Spain on Sunday, November 1st. My wife and I are coming up from Philly to spend a few hours with them.
They are staying at the Affinia Gardens hotel on E. 64th st. Can anyone recommend any restaurants and other places of interest? Are there any tapas restaurants around?
We all have been to the city before and want to stay away from any tourist traps.
Thanks

Suggestions for NYC clubs/lounges Posted: Mon October 26, 2009 12:05 AM UTC

Parking Garages in Brooklyn Posted: Fri October 23, 2009 06:22 PM UTC
My daughter and I are going to visit my Dad in NYC for a few days before Christmas and it's turning out that it's going to be cheaper for us to drive than to take the train this time (train prices are crazy), but I'll need to put the car someplace near my Dad's in Brooklyn. I not really familiar with Brooklyn, so any suggestions are welcomed.

I know this has been asked time and time again - tips Posted: Mon October 19, 2009 10:10 AM UTC
Hi guys,
I know that this has been asked time and time again but would be grateful for a definitive list of who I should be tipping and how much so I can just print off and take with me - you guys tip a lot more folk than us in the UK. Here is what I have so far:
Bartenders
wait staff
bell/busboy
chambermaid/cleaning lady/gent in room
taxi drivers
do I need to tip doormen, concierge for providing a service etc. anybody else I have missed off?
Sorry for sounding a tad dim - I know alot of wait staff rely on their tips (don't agree that they should have to and should get a decent wage but that is another issue!)
really want to get this right.
Thanks guys in advance....5 weeks to go and counting!!!!!

Thanksgiving Posted: Mon October 19, 2009 03:39 AM UTC
Howdy from Australia. NEXT year we're planning to come over the week of Thanksgiving, so
(1) we've previously stayed at the Radio City Apartments and loved the location but for 7 nights, are there better price options in the same location? Ability to do our own laundry is essential.
(2) what are the inside-scoops on watching the Parade? eg how many hours beforehand should one be waiting? (even what time does it start please?!) Preferred viewing locations? Has it ever been cancelled?
(3) I'm guessing flying out on Thanksgiving or even the day after would be frantic in the airports?
(4) Is it true there are amazing sales the day after Thanksgiving?
HUGE thanks everybody.
