Sibeliustalo seating / tickets Posted: Fri November 6, 2009 03:35 PM UTC
I'm just planning a weekend trip to Lahti in March (and I'm very very excited about it too).
The purpose of this trip is to go see two concerts at the Sibelius Hall (and to sneakily listen to random people speaking Finnish - it ain't eavesdropping if I don't understand what they're saying!). Has anyone here been to the Sibelius Hall? The first concert is with the Lahti Sinfonia, and I would prefer to have a seat where I could actually SEE (as well as hear, obviously) properly. Are the 1st floor seats okay? Should I go for an upper level one? Any advice on this would be grand!
The second concert is a metal one, so I'm not too concerned there. Chances are I won't use the seat anyway :-P
Any and all input welcome, taaaa!

From Tampere to Lapland?- How much the entrance to see father Christmas Posted: Wed November 4, 2009 08:12 PM UTC
HI people, I'm planning a trip to see Father Christmas in Lapland. Please could you help me to know how to get there from Tampere?
I get to Tampere-Pirkkala Airport (ryanair, that's the cheapest way to finland)then I dont know what else to do.
Also, could you tell me how much is the simplest entrance? (It doesnt matter if it doesnt include games, etc). I'm on a tight budget. (Student)
Thank you

Fishing Posted: Sun October 18, 2009 08:38 PM UTC
Good day.
We are fishermen from Lithuania and we are interested in spending some time in Finland (Lapland) during the end of November. So we would like to know, what sort of fresh water fishing we will be introduced to? I mean, open water or ice fishing, lakes or rivers, types of fish?
Also, if you don't mind telling us about the weather conditions in the region? And weather difficulties please. And lastly, we are traveling on our car.
Thank you in advance for the info.

What to buy? What to see? What to eat? Posted: Mon September 21, 2009 01:06 PM UTC
We are going to be in Finlad for 4 days later in September, staying in Helsinki for a conference. We will have some late afternoons and half a day free.
So, given we do not have that much free time, if you have any experience of Finland/Helsinki, we would appreciate your help - please let us know:
What is most important things to see/experience?
What should we buy to bring home?
And what should we eat too?
What is cheaper? What is more expensive?
Looking forward to your response.

Are we NUTS? Posted: Fri August 28, 2009 05:23 AM UTC
We both have a week off from work at Christmas and can take the next week off as vaca giving us two weeks to explore some of northern Finland. Is this just a crazy time to go though, being so many people who may visit Santa's village and northern Finland at this time of year? We're interested in a reindeer safari, a night or two in an igloo, see Aurora, maybe the Sampo icebreaker as well. If it is too crowded at this time of the year, can you suggest another time of year (when we can see Aurora) which won't have so many tourists?
Thanks!

Ivalo and nearby Posted: Fri August 14, 2009 08:00 PM UTC
Hi,
we are staying in Helsinki and would like to go to Lapland. At the beginning we wanted to go to Ivalo and then rent a car till North Capp but at this moment this is impossible due to the high costs that this trip would have.
So we are thinking about flying till Ivalo and then do something there: are there any bus connection to parks, citys or something nearby?
If we don't rent a car how can we move above there?
And do you think that the last week end of august will be good to see the northern lights?
thank you in advance

Cheapest prepay mobile in Finland? Posted: Sun August 9, 2009 04:16 PM UTC
Cheapest prepay mobile in Finland?
What is the best prepay card for a visitor to Finland staying 3 weeks? DNA, Saunalahti, Sonera, or something else??? I am interested in sending SMS (to Finnish mobiles) ONLY. No roaming, no international. Just cheap SMS, including countryside coverage. Which one do you have? Which company do you recommend (if it's prepay)?
How much is the startpack?
Thanks

Most naturally beautiful part of Finland Posted: Sat August 1, 2009 06:20 PM UTC
Most naturally beautiful part of Finland
What is the most naturally beautiful part of Finland, (region?, county?, area?). I have 3 weeks to explore Southern, Eastern, and Western Finland (south of Oulu). Where do your recommend. My starting point is Helsinki, and my ending point is Turku (to catch a boat to Stockholm). This trip will take place in September, with IMPORTANT FOCUS on AUTUMN COLOURS.
I want to see the most colourful leaf changes in natural parts of Finland's forests, and I need to arrive at the peak of autumn colour season in Southern Finland. When would that be?
I've heard Koli National Park is the best?
Thanks

Train from Helsinki up to Vainikkala Posted: Wed July 29, 2009 11:35 AM UTC
Does anyone know how to find the time schedule for trains running from Helsinki up to Vainikkala and/or Lappeenranta? I've checked the Finn Rail site but am only receiving errors when doing searches.
I'm also wondering about prices. Does it cost less to make a two-way reservation instead of just buying tickets at the time of departure?
Thank you.

Two nights in Helsinki Posted: Tue July 7, 2009 09:43 AM UTC
Hello everyone. My wife and I (mid 40's Australian couple, active and fit) are going to be in Helsinki for two nights in late August and were after some advice on where to stay and must see things. We never thought that we would get the opportunity to visit Finland so we are very excited. We are both water people and would like to stay somewhere about $150USD range with water views if that is possible. Is there a last minute hotel guide that offers cheaper rates?
Is it a good idea to hire a pushbike and see a bit of the city that way ourselves or are better off joining a sightseeing tour? We would love to have a chat to some locals in a pub and learn a bit about the country. Is there any scheduled VT meetings around that time?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Info about Rovaniemi - traveling in October Posted: Mon July 6, 2009 06:27 AM UTC
Hi all
I will be traveling to Finland (Helsinki & Rovaniemi) in the month of October.
Is there a chance to see northern lights in October? What will be the best location in Rovaniemi to see northern lights? I can alter my plan and visit later if there are fare chances to see northern lights later and weather is not too harsh at that time.
I am also concerned about the weather. If I have to go to arctic circle (away from city), will I need more warm clothes in that case? Can they be rented locally?
Also, I will be on tight budget, so will be traveling by bus in the city. How is the bus service in the city and how much does it cost?
Any suggestion would be of great help!

Helsinki in December Posted: Thu June 25, 2009 03:03 AM UTC
We are heading over to Europe for Christmas and the New Year and my 5 year old daughter wants to see snow at Christmas......will there be snow in Helsinki or surrounding regions? Also do the Finnish REALLY celebrate Christmas with all the lights and trimmings? We live in Australia and I would love the kids to experience a Northern Hemsisphere Christmas, I am open to all and any suggestions, we have from approximately 20th - 26th December before flying onto Nice. Thanks!!
