| Albuquerque | Albuquerque in Sept/Clubhouse Inn? Posted: Sat May 3, 2008 01:14 PM UTC
We're planning a return trip to NM that will probably have us in Santa Fe for 6 nights and Albuquerque for 3. We pretty much just flew in and out of Albuquerque last time so I'm doing a lot of reading about what to do while we're there - have decided for sure on Petroglyph NM, Sandia Tram, Acoma and a little R&R in Old Town and looking for more, if we can fit it in. What am I missing?
Was looking at booking the Clubhouse Inn as they have decent rates for big rooms, balconies (which we like) and are not too far from Old Town, museums, etc. but I read in another posting that Menual isn't a great area. How bad is it really? Any better suggestions? No problem with an agenda for SF - will go back to Bandelier and Chaco for some hiking, an art cruise on Canyon Road, a day trip up to Taos, etc. Would be fun to hit some of the wineries I'm reading about in other posts! And I can't wait to do that drive over the mountains to Chaco again - that was a high point of the last trip!!!! We'll be driving directly to SF the quick route, when we fly in, but would Turquoise Trail be a good route back to Albuquerque? We'll have time to putz a bit on that drive and we haven't been to Madrid yet. Thanks for any advice ya'll might have for me!!! |

| Taos | Looking for the hat shop Posted: Sat March 22, 2008 08:34 PM UTC
On a visit to taos in 12/06 we visited a store that sold hats in teh back. the shopkeeper had an antique hat sizer so measure your head and was extremely knowledgeable about hat styles. We would like to make a special trip there to buy a hat but want to make sure that he's still there and that he's open this Wedmsday morning (our ONLY chance to get there). I can't find Hats in the the yeelow pages. Anyone know who I'm talking about? The front of the store sells something else but I can't remember what! Any leads? ASAP Thanks

I will be traveling at the beginning of march and am wondering what the weather is like, where to go for fun, i will have a rental, like wine tasting, like easy hikes, like nature.
What is the suburban extended stay like? Is walking alone going to be a problem for me? |

| Albuquerque | Petroglyph, Sandia & Day Tours Posted: Sat January 26, 2008 03:29 PM UTC
Thinking of seeing the Petroglyph Monument and was wondering if there's public transport that stops near the entrance and can I just waltz in? Also, is Sandia Peak easy to just walk from the Tram and putz around? Finally, does anyone know of any day tours from Albuquerque to Acoma or El Morro (can't really find any)?

| Acoma Pueblo | Digital camera use at Acoma Sky City Posted: Sat January 5, 2008 03:40 AM UTC
Almost all digital cameras have some video capability. Even cameras which are generally used only for still shots. Does this mean that only film cameras can be used and that all other cameras are prohibited on Acoma Sky City?

I'll be traveling, to Santa Fe area, with four adults and four young people between 14 and 17 years old. I'm interested in a suite, or two, for a week in June 2008. What is available, at what cost? I've stayed at El Rey and loved it. I need info to make a decision.

| New Mexico | New Mexico: where do roads close due to snow? Posted: Fri November 30, 2007 11:51 PM UTC
Hello,
I am planning a January road trip from Los Angeles to San Antonio, Tx, passing pretty much straight along I-10 through Tucson, Las Cruces, and El Paso. Being a Los Angelean, I have no experience with winter weather, and what I would like to know is whether I could possibly encounter snow, closed roads, chains-only roads, etc., in this part of the country (I have no idea where it snows and where it doesn’t). Additionally, I am planning a few trips off the interstate, which I assume is not very high-elevation, and if anyone can tell me whether these routes would involve high elevations and possible road closures in January, I would really appreciate it. I realize no one can predict the weather, but my problem is that I have no idea if I am talking about areas where snow has never been seen, or if they are areas known for closures, etc. Any insight appreciated. Here are some roads I had in mind. Highway US-60 going east out of Phoenix to Globe, AZ, then south on US-77 to Tucson. Hwy 90 north out of Lordsburg, NM to Silver City, then back south to I-10 at Deming or east to I-25 near Truth or Consequences. US-70 north out of Las Cruces to White Sands NM, then east on 82 to Carlsbad and down 285 to Pecos, TX. Various side roads in the Texas hill country between San Antonio and Austin Thanks! |

| Santa Fe | Best Halloween Party/Club and Bar recommendations Posted: Fri October 26, 2007 05:19 AM UTC
Hey!
Some friends and I are in Albuquerque right now, but we're planning to spend the weekend in Santa Fe. I've not been there since I was a young girl and we're all from Boston. What is the best Halloween Party to go to, and what are the best fun bars for a young college crowd like ourselves? Nothing fancy/pretentious - just good times and good vibes. We'll be there sometime tomorrow until Monday afternoon. We'd like to visit Madrid also - it doesn't look far from Santa Fe. Do any of you know if the little shops/galleries/boutiques are open on Sunday? Thanks :-) |

| New Mexico | Modular Homes Posted: Wed October 17, 2007 11:51 PM UTC
Hi, I posted on here a few weeks ago about Modular Homes built by a company called Falcon Ridge and just wanted to give an update for anyone who cares. I went out to the are to check out some houses before I move out there and saw one of these houses. I checked out one of these houses and absolutely loved it. I couldn't tell a difference between it and the rest of the houses that I saw that were site built. Anyways, if you are looking for a new house then I suggest you at least give modular homes a look if they are available in the area.

| Albuquerque | Madrid, NM Posted: Sat August 18, 2007 06:13 AM UTC
We traveled on the Turquoise Trail and came across a Trading Post that I believe was located in Madrid. They had the most AMAZING Native American pottery and rugs I have ever seen. Much of it belonged to the owner and was not for sale. Can you tell me the name of it, if you know, and can they be located via internet? I have a couple of questions about a great pot I bought there and would like to try to find more by the same artist. Thank you for your help.

| New Mexico | Labor Day Trip to Albuquerque/Jemez Springs/Santa Fe Posted: Tue July 31, 2007 11:12 PM UTC
Hi everybody! Hubby and I are planning a 5-day trip from Denton, TX (just north of Dallas) to Albuquerque/Jemez Springs/Santa Fe.
1) Friday, drive from Denton to Albuquerque and spend the night. We probably will not be up to a lot of sightseeing after the drive--dinner, maybe check out Old Town or ride the Sandia Peak tram, and then to bed. 2) For Saturday, drive up to Jemez Springs--sightsee, spend the night. 3) For Sunday, day hike in the Jemez Springs area and spend another night. 4) For Monday, drive down to Santa Fe and sightsee, and spend the night. 5) Tuesday, head back home to Denton. I've found a few places to stay in the Jemez Springs area, but I haven't made reservations yet. Does anyone have any recommendations for day hikes in the Jemez Mountains? Any other points of interest or things that we absolutely MUST do while we're in the area? We're in our 50s. Not into chain hotels or restaurants. We love to explore, love the quirky/off-beat, love the outdoors. If hubby had his way, we'd spend the entire trip backpacking, but I'm a little too scared of bears! Hoping to hear some good suggestions from y'all!! |

Thank you so much to all ! Philippe |

| Las Cruces | VISITING LAS CRUCES THIS SPRING....... Posted: Fri February 23, 2007 01:13 AM UTC
My husband and I are planning a trip to Las Cruces and the surrounding areas this spring. We currently reside in the northern part of Pa. Our visit is for a vacation and also to look over the area in thoughts of relocating there sometime in the next several years. I am somewhatdisappointed by some of the comments that I have read on this web site about the area from rich retirees moving to the area and real estate has inflated as a result. Also the temps go to 115? I live in a small town now, which we really like. I don't need all that "fluffy" night life stuff, did it all when we was young. Oh, also that if one is not mexican, you could feel out of place. We visited the northern part of new mexico 25 years ago, and at that time we really liked it, but it appears to be getting overcrowed there, too. We want quiet, healthy, warm and peaceful. Perhaps you all might have a better recommendation. We are average americans, husband retired, me still working. Would most likely rent a house or apartment till we get our bearings then consider purchasing a property. Pa has high taxes which is killling us. ANy help is appreciated. Rosie

| Albuquerque | walking in a perfect world? Posted: Wed February 7, 2007 12:40 AM UTC
My husband and I are moving to Albuquerque this summer and are looking for a desirable place to live. To us that means walking/biking distance, 20 minutes or so, to:
-restaurants, health food and coffee shops, live music -dog friendly, maybe a park -preferably in an established area that's fairly safe - rather than the burbs I know this is probably asking too much... We will be working close to downtown and think that the east side would be better due to commuting. It seems online that the health food stores are all located on the east side of the river, is this true? Any information would be greatly appreciated!! |
