Mississippi Margaret's Grocery
Posted: Sat May 10, 2008 03:10 AM UTC
I saw a documentary about Margaret's Grocery the other day and we are interested in visiting, since we may be doing a road trip of the Southern US next year.

I was wondering if anyone has seen it recently and whether Margaret and her husband Rev. Dennis are still alive. I can't find any recent information on the internet to see if they are still running the grocery/church.

Thanks :o)

Memphis Heartbreak Hotel and Gracelands
Posted: Mon December 10, 2007 11:50 AM UTC
Hi

Does anyone know if there is an indoor pool at the Heartbreak Hotel, or is it outside?

We are only spending two nights there - we will be arriving late on Christmas Eve and will probably just crash out that night after a long flight, then we will be there for Christmas Day and night, before moving off. Is it really very bad in this area, and what, apart from the normal things, should we do to keep safe?

Mississippi Glendora/Union County/Tallahatchie bridge
Posted: Tue November 20, 2007 11:24 PM UTC
Hi Mississippi Vt members.

My question follows from a thread about the song 'Ode to Billy Joe' that I posted on the miscellaneous forum on Sunday night. There's been a huge response and I would really love to know :

If the Tallahtchie Bridge still exists ?

Does anyone On VT live nearby ?

Does anyone have a photo or tip about it on their pages ?

Any information will bevery gratefullly received.

Greetings from Ireland,

Katherine :)

Ocean Springs life and weather in Ocean Springs???
Posted: Mon June 18, 2007 02:44 PM UTC
We are considering moving to Ocean Springs. We are concerned about the amount of rainfall. We have lived in Florida where the amount of rain is comparable but there it rains in tremendous storms then clears off for the day. We live in Kentucky now where there is less rain but it is slow dreary drizzly rain that goes on for days without alot of accumulation. How would you describe it in Ocean Springs. So basicallly we would like to know if it sunny or dreary. How are the winters?

Having never been to Mississippi can anyone recommend any scenic drives in the northern part of the state? We'll be in Memphis for a couple days the last week of April so it's fairly close. Any drives or gardens with spring flowers blooming would be great! Thanks

Biloxi Shuttle Buses
Posted: Tue December 5, 2006 04:05 PM UTC
Are there any shuttle buses available at casinos anymore? We always took advantage of the shuttle buses to get around when we came down. The guys would take the cars golfing and we would hop on the shuttle buses to get from casino to casino. If no shuttle buses any other ideas how we could get around town now?

Thanks,

Kay

Vicksburg Question regarding Military Park Monument
Posted: Thu June 15, 2006 03:44 PM UTC
My wife an I toured the Vicksburg Military Park two years ago. What a wonderful and touching tribute to the people who lived an dfought in that beautiful city.

We are from California and were traveling to visit military relatives in Biloxi MS. I am somewhat of a history buff and so we planned the visit to Vicksburg well in advance. As you enter the park-near the visitor center there is a monument that includes the names of the states that sent troops to fight there on behalf of the Confederacy. I was surprised to see "Maryland" on that monument. Can you provide any details about that, since Maryland was not truly part of the confederacy?

Thank you so much. We loved your city and the south in general. Hope to retire in the area in a few years.

Mississippi Gulf Coast Road Trip!
Posted: Mon May 1, 2006 11:07 PM UTC
The fall, I'll be doing a road trip w/ my brother from Hollywood, Fl to our family home in New Mexico. I am thinking of taking I-10 through the Florida panhandle all the way to El Paso. I haven't heard from him about what he wants to see, but none of us are into amusement parks. Nature, history, art, and those kitcshy bits are the types of things I focus on when I road trip alone.

Are there sights I should not miss along this route?

Are there areas that are still not repaired from all of the hurricaine's last year that I should avoid ... or that I should stop in and lend a hand?

BTW- Crossposting in the Florida, Alabama, La, and Tx forums :)

Biloxi Looking for a Good Seafood Restaurant and Beach access
Posted: Fri May 27, 2005 04:05 PM UTC
We will be in Biloxi the Monday after Memorial day. We are looking for a really good seafood restaurant. We would like to stay away from chain-type restaurants and the casinos and really have some less 'touristy' place to go. Driving a short distance wouldn't be a problem. Also, we will be staying on the boulevard, but not at a beach front hotel and would like to know about public access to the beaches in Biloxi. Any information would be great!!

Jackson 10 weeks in Mississippi
Posted: Sat April 2, 2005 04:35 AM UTC
Hi There, I am going to be living in Jackson, Mississippi for 10 weeks this summer for an internship. I am going to be down there with a girl from my school. I guess I am looking for any sorts of tips, hints or haunts anyone wants to recommend or warn me about. This is also a long shot but we are looking to secure housing for the 10 weeks and because of the nature of the stay (needing a place that is both furnished and short term lease) the lowest rent we can find is $1550/month which I know is a lot for Jackson. I was thinking someone might be able to recommend something a bit more friendly for the student budget.

Mississippi Mississippi 3 Weeks in July
Posted: Sun March 20, 2005 10:40 AM UTC
I'm off to Mississippi for 3 weeks in July and plan to end up in New Orleans. Never been before - probably the furthest, longest holiday ever for me. We have the flights and car booked already and now want nice, affordable places to stay in the Delta - we'll go anywhere: Jackson, Memphis, Natchez, Hattiesburg... Whatever!

Interests: Photography; Blues Music; Beer; Anything Interesting & Food

Anything, anything at all you have to say will be appreciated except, "whatever you do, don't go to Mississippi in July."

Biloxi Biloxi Dancing
Posted: Wed March 16, 2005 11:33 PM UTC
We are going to Biloxi for our anniversary and would like suggestions on a place to take in some dancing. We would prefer some place with a live band, but it is not necessary. Any swing or tango clubs in the area that possibly offer lessons? We will be there for easter weekend. Please reply to nelson_c@bellsouth.net
