Anyone floated the North Nork of the White river? I am headed there Friday for a two day float. This is an attempt to get my mind off of our upcoming trip to St. John this November.
My husband will be staying in St Louis for a week in November, and I have the oppurtunity of coming along. He would be in a conference during the day, so I would be left to my own devices for a lot of the time. My question is, is St Louis an interesting place to have this much spare time in on one's own?

My friend told me about taking the tour of the brewery and said he saw a carving of a brewery worker on a cornerstone of the building. He says it was a man with a mug of beer in one hand and something to eat in the other. The thing that set it off was that the "worker" had the head of a rat, as he recalls. If anyone has a pic of this, I would appreciate seeing it and any info if a replica can be purchased.
Hi, I'm in still filling in the blanks of my connect-the-dots tour of the places in the USA which we have never visited before. St. Louis will be Days 25-27 on our way home to PA. For years I've heard about the Italian restaurants in The Hill section of StL and now I would appreciate specifics. We're looking for good, real Italian food that is not a pizzeria or chain, and is also not "exquisite" dining. Entrees between $20-$30 would be fine. Also, please correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand that restaurants in the Hill are closed Sunday. The tips I've been getting from our VT friends around the country have kept me all pumped up in the planning. We expect to leave PA the week after Labor Day for a 5,000 drive. It's a good thing that my wife and I "play nice". Thanks, Irv
Has anyone had any issues with swimming in the swim area at Frankie and Louie's at Sunrise beach? I don't think the water quality has been tested and given that it's at the end of a long cove with a lot of boats, gas pump and pretty populated on the weekends, I am not sure how the harmful bacteria and pollution gets out of there! We wouldn't let our kids swim in the water due to this concern.
I wanted to take my Wife to the Greenbrier in West Virginia, but she has gotten very ill, and on the list for a transplant. She simply can't handle the travel, nor can we afford to be that far from the transplant center in Columbia MO.
I want to find a luxury resort in Arkansas or Missouri, with a very nice spa for her to relax in.
I want this to be the event of her life. Something she can hang onto through what lays ahead for her. Something she will never forget. I want her waited on hand and foot, with nothing to go wanting.
I realize it won't be cheap, but she has gone from a vibrant 42 year old, to a 46 year old that feels like her body is 100 years old. She worked with abused and neglected kids as a family services investigator, now she needs something for her.
Where would be a good place? What would be utter perfection? She needs a break so badly.
Hello! I'll be in St Louis from August-September. I'll be staying in Maryland Heights and will be going to Earth City on a daily basis. How far is the travel time? And what's the best and most economical way to go back and forth?
Aside from BBQ and Budweiser, what other food places should I check out?
And lastly, is there a clean and decent lesbian bar in the area?
This is the first time I'm goin there and would appreciate any help. Thanks!
KC to Denver Posted: Fri June 12, 2009 02:08 AM UTC
Hi,
We are still planning our frequently delayed cross-country drive. I understand that the trip between KC and Denver is looong and boooring. We are not on a timetable and would like some info about interesting(if any)minor detours along this leg of our trip. We are NOT campers, hikers, fishermen, or the usual outdoors type.
Thanks
I'm already cringing from the $30 "cheap" ticket to attend the Rockies v. Cardinals game, but then another $15 to park?? Any suggestions for cheaper (or even FREE?) parking to attend the game? I'm a single female traveling alone, so it needs to be safe and close enough to the stadium so my being "directionally challenged" won't be an issue...
I've never been to St. Louis before and do not know the area, so I won't be offended if y'all tell me to suck it up and pay the $15. I'd just like to know my options here.
Hi ,
Please guide me what all activities I can do with family on 11 -12 oct08 in ozark. I am more interested in skii ,tubing and skuba. Whom to contact for this and how can get the information for this.
Hi, my husband and I are planning a quick anniversary trip to the St Louis area in September. Is there a decent hotel that anyone would recommend under $100/night? We don't need fabulous service, but no where that I would fear my car being broken into. Looking for bar/restaurant; 24 hour desk service... pretty much 3 star but I know 2 star can be just as accommodating. We are willing to stay in suburbs as well...
Some advice, please, on accommodations in St. Louis.
OUR ITINERARY:
We fly in to the airport late one evening. The next day we need a rental car. When we return the St.Louis, we need to return the car and get to a hotel and end up the next morning at the train station to complete our trip.
I'm traveling to St. Louis with a seven year old, and wonder if I should stay near the train station one night so that we can catch a train the next day. Is the area safe and pleasant? Any hotel recommendations?
Or perhaps I need a hotel which would shuttle us between airport and train station area. Ideas?
My mother and I are planning a weekend trip out to Branson,MO this weekend. We will be heading out Friday making a stop in Springfield,MO to see my Grandmother. And then moving on to Branson on Saturday we have gone to Branson before but its been quite a few years. I am just trying to find out what all might be going like if there any festivals or anything going on right now and what all would be suggest for places you have to stop.
For me personally I really want to go some sort of dinner theater I was thinking either the Dixie Stampede or maybe a mystery theater if we could find one. I heard there are some in the area but I had never looked for them before.
I have booked at drury plaza st louis arch and on their home site it says there is a daily fee. However, i have noticed in several different reviews guest talk about free parking. Is there a fee?
I'm traveling to St. Louis for the Radiohead concert in 2 weeks (May 14th). I arrive on the Mega bus at Union Station at 2:30pm. Concert starts at 7pm, I'd like to be there around 6-6:30, so that's a 4-hour window to get from place to place (2 hours of which I'd like to use to eat somewhere near the terminal).
I've looked at the St. Louis Regional Transit website to figure out transportation from St. Louis Union Station to the amphitheatre (14141 Riverport Dr), but I can't make heads or tails out of it. I used the police dept's address in Maryland Hts as a terminus point because I wasn't able to just plug in any address, which is extremely frustrating. There are no directions of how to get to the amphitheatre itself or how far that walk might be. I'm thinking it's a few miles walk and I don't want to do that, especially at night when I return; would love to get straight to the venue, if possible.
These are the directions it gives me:
http://www.metrostlouis.org/
Take metro from Union Station to Police Dept in Maryland Hts, 212 Millwell Dr.
Take Metrolink West from Union Station Metrolink Station to Rock Road Metrolink Station. Depart 3:36 arrive 3:53pm.
Walk to Rock Road Loop to catch the MO Bus 33 and ride that to Shuetz Rd. at Dorset Rd. arrive 4:07pm. Walk from Shuetz Rd to Maryland Hts Police Dept.
Can someone tell me the best way to get from Union Station to the amphitheatre?
Could I take metro/subway and then a bus once inside Maryland Hts - or a cab?
If so, what's a good cab company in Maryland Hts or the website for the bus?
Would either stop in front of the concert venue?
Is it too far to just take a cab from St Louis to Maryland Heights? And back (at 11:30pm or so)?
And if so, I'm worried about getting from the amphitheatre back into town to catch the Mega bus at 1:15am. I'm thinking I have about a 2-hour window. Which *should* be plenty of time but you never know.
Also, is there any place safe to meander around or stay at late at night around Union Station or is Union Station itself open?
I am looking for some suggestions on fun things to do or fun places to go in El Dorado Springs or nearby next month (May) when I visit my 2 teenage daughters that live there. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.
Do most teams stay at the Intercontinental? I know we are staying there with Toronto this weekend (stepson plays) but we lost our media guide and I'm impatient in waiting for another. I will be back thru there third week of June with some friends and wondered if San Francisco will be staying there also. Guess I could find out this weekend and book then but as I said...I'm impatient...and want to go ahead and book...
I am planning a trip to St Louis for the first time. Is downtown generally a safe area? I've heard a lot of things about "bad" areas and want to make sure I avoid them.
