I want to visit Detroit for a long weekend some time in summer 2010, I want to see MCS before the city destroys it or it gets a major renovation. Is there any work scheduled for demolition or renovation before September 2010? Do alot of people go there to take a look? Is the area around MCS safe for visitors that want to take pictures of the exterior of the building? When is the best time of day to check it out? Are there any public or private tours of the interior of MCS? Your response would be greatly appreciated, Thank You!
Hello... I got some more questions about Belle Isle, Is it a safe place to visit on the weekends or at night in the summer? What about week days? Do alot of shady people hang out on the island?, like thugs, homeless people & drug addicts? Is there a certain area of the island that is best to avoid? Is there public pay phones by the Jefferson Ave. E. & Grand Blvd. E. area or on the island?
Hi there, I got a few questions... Is it possible to walk across the Douglas Macarthur bridge? Is there a seasonal schedule that the James Scott fountain operates by, like from May to October? Does it light up at night? Your feed back would be very much appreciated, thank you!
My wife and I are looking to take an early to mid Autumn trip to northern Michigan (Lower Peninsula). I've traveled to most of the larger tourist destinations in the state and would like to go somewhere a little further off the grid this time.
Does anyone have any recommendations for us?
We are looking for a small town with a hotel, a nice restaurant or two (not a national chain) for meals, a small downtown district for walking (shops would be a plus), and close to a state park for some hikes and sights. Near one of the Forests would be great.
I would love to hear all you recommendations. Thanks for your help!
Thinking about heading up to Michigan (Eastern Coast, non Lake Erie side) I guess that would be Upper Pennisula? Anyway would like suggestions for nice locations (not college party towns) to take the family. No further than Mackinac Island. Thanks
4th of July Posted: Sat June 20, 2009 04:40 AM UTC
My boyfriend wants to visit Mackinac Island on 4th of July. His plan is to stay in his tent. Is camping allowed on the Island? Would reservations for a tentsite be necessary? Is it crazy busy on 4th of July there?
Thanks for your replies. I'm sorry to doubt him, but....

Several years ago we took the family to the zoo and had a wonderful time. When we were there we seen these rodents from Africa that were larger than pigs. Do you still have them? What is the name of them?
Thanks for your response

Going to be in southern/central Michigan for a couple of days and looking for great, as the FoodNetwork show calls it - Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Something a little different than the chains. I've been reading the travel tips but sometimes it makes it better to ask in the travel forum too.
Mainly looking around Ann Arbour, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, north to Frankenmuth, and then around Port Huron.
Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
Any totally off-the-wall sites to stop at? Not looking for bars or student hangouts... my traveling companion and I are beyond the latter age group, and not wanting to worry about drinking and driving.
So, I'm pretty sad (yeah, I need a life) that Cereal City has closed, and there don't seem to be any factory tours of the Kelloggs plant. However, is there any factory outlet shops that sell to the public at great deals?
Thanks for your help folks - VTers are the best at giving good info.
Has anyone been to Great Harvest Bread Co. on S. Main St. in Ann Arbor? I hear their whole grain breads are delicious! Would love to hear any feedback you have.
I am here for work through the end of December. I usually arrive on Sunday nights around 9 pm. Is there any place to get something to eat other than fast food or pizza? Also, is there any place that serves food after 10 pm on the other weeknights? Thanks in advance!
Hi
I'm trying to plan a winter (December) long weekend getaway from Chicago. We'd like to go somewhere driving distance (3 hours or so) that is a lodge vibe, and IS NOT a family style/water park spot. Can anyone recommend anywhere in the South/West area of Michigan that might fit the bill? We'd love somewhere scenic w/fireplaces a nice restaurant, etc. Thanks in advance!!
Need restaurant suggestions for December for a office party. Would like it to be rather nice. It needs to be somewhere between Lansing and Grayling as half of people from Grayling and half from Lansing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Fall Colors Posted: Sat September 6, 2008 10:05 AM UTC
Hello! I am planning a camping trip in October. Partly just because I love camping and want to go at least once more this year but also because I thing I would love to be in the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes area during the fall. So I have a few questions. . . .
- When, usually, is the peak of the fall colors in Glen Arbor/Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes area? I am hoping to make the trip around October 17th weekend and I hope that isn't too late!!
- Any recommendations of scenic drives in the area as well as trails that would be nice during the fall would be great! One of the ideas of the trip is to see some fall colors while driving around and hiking... also I want to have a chance to take some great pictures! So anything that helps in those categories would be great!
I have heard of a quarry that is located in monroe.
What i heard was... If you're ever in Southeastern Michigan. There is an old rock quarry in Monroe. Take I-75 South to Exit 9. LaPlessance Rd. Make a right and as soon as you go over your 3rd set of railroad tracks the quarry is on your left hand side.
Does anyone know more about this place? Are there cliffs to jump from? Are they high? Is it legal to be there?
I have "about" 7 days and want to travel from Ann Arbor up to the Upper Peninsula in mid-September. Have this notion that I will not only see the fall colors but will see water and more water and it goes without saying that I will just happen to see the Aurora Borealis too. Please can someone help me with planning this trip and my thanks in advance.
Hey, I'm looking for a field where there's a lot of pretty flowers, some place that I could take pictures. Preferably it'd be a place close to Rochester, but anywhere within 30 minutes driving is fine, too.
My question is...Is it worth the extra money to stay on the Island rather than in Mackinaw City? There is quite a price difference, and before I slurge, I would like to know if it is worth it? And, how many days should we allow to see the attractions ont he Island?
I loved all the information on Marquette. I would like to catch the music Thursday nights at Vango's but wonder what time the duo performs? They sound like they'd be a treat to hear!
I am staying a night in Lansing and I found an Amerihost Inn Dimin ondale that looked okay. I then tried to find more information on it so I looked at Amerihost website and it was not listed. I phoned the place and the person answering said its now part of the Choice/Comfort system. However, when I checked with Choice, they had no listing for it either. So, altho there is likely nothing wrong with the hotel, it makes me uncomfortable that someone is claiming the place is from a certain chain/franchise when it might not be.
Is there anyone on the forum who knows the area of Dimondale - the hotel address is 9742 Woodland Drive, bsically near the I69 and I96 interchange.
I'd like to book a flight on a small plane out of Mackinaw City Airport OR Pellston on Monday, July 14 immediately after finishing the Port Huron to Mac race -- I've got to get back to work.
