I see there are two tour operators to Acadia National Park, the Park service seems to have a bus tour, and there's Oli's Trolley. Which is the better tour to take?
Looking at Southwest Harbor and Manset. The Moorings Cottage rentals look interesting. Info on bathrooms is sketchy in general. My husband is not usually a fan of B&B type things. Have Moon Costal Maine book for reference. We will be in the area for 3 nights Sept 10,11 & 12. Any suggestions, or firsthand experience appreciated.
Anyone know of affordable accommodation (bed & breakfast, motel, hostel) in Portland Maine near the CAT ferry crossing to Yarmouth Nova Scotia? Any tips appreciated!
I will only be half day at Portland and I want to try the lobster at the J's Oyster Bar. May I know what is the openign hours of this resturant? Thanks

What is the law in Maine regarding alcoholic beverages on the beach? I've rented a cottage in Biddeford and would like to be able to enjoy a drink or two while relaxing on the beach.
I am familiar with coastal and Down East Maine, but I have never seen the potato blossoms in northern Maine. I gather it is worth making the effort. I know there is a Potato Blossom Festival in mid-late July (which answers, roughly anyway, the question of timing), but I'm not interested in the festival itself. Can anyone suggest an itinerary (areas of Aroostook County, towns, specific routes, etc.) that would be helpful in planning a short, perhaps overnight (or two) excursion so that I can see the fields in bloom and avoid the festival. Thanks.
we will be in acadia in late june and considering spending an additional two days driving up the coast to west quoddy head. interested in the puffins @ machias seal island and jasper beach. any other special spots not to be missed? into wildlife and history, but nothing too strenuous; wife is 6mo pregnant. thanks!
also looking for a great place to stay in the downeast region. open to suggestions. anywhere from private woodsy cabin to luxury. thanks!
We are planning our first trip to Maine..Plan to spend most of the time on the coast, especially Acadia. We'd like to finish up with a few days in the Maine woods where we could do some gentle hiking and possibly view some wildlife (maybe a moose). Any suggestions?

Hi, we'd like to get from Portland to the coast by train, then fast speed onto San francisco. Can you fly out of Portland to say, Eureka, around 29.10.08 please? Many thanks.
I'll be in Portland, ME for the first week in September (staying in Harpswell). Any suggestions on what not to miss or do, etc. while there? Will have a car for day trips
Thanks.
I'm planning a roadtrip from Boston to Rockport, ME (Samoset Resort), in mid September so as to avoid the crowds. Is this a good time? What should I look for along the way? And yes, I'm going for the Lobsta so give me a list of all your favorite places.
We are three people planning to spend 3-4 days around the coast of Maine. It's the first time we come to this area and we would like to know if we should book on advance or if it's possible to find somewhere to stay as we travel around (we don't need luxury places, just clean, comfortable and nice :) ).
Thanks in advance for your help.
We are planning a trip to Maine and Nova Scotia for summer 2009.
We are outdoorsy types that would love a true New England experience.
Do you have any lodging recommendations for Bar Harbor and Yarmouth?
2 adults, 2 teenagers. We plan to hike Acadia, take the CAT ferry to
Nova Scotia, other than that... no set plans.
Our family, two girls ages 7&9, are staying at the Juniper Hill Inn and would apprecate dining recommendations with a view featuring lovely water views and delicious New England seafood - mussels and chowder soups are our favorite!!
Plus, when and where does one obtain Maine blueberries and yummy preserves?
Planning on traveling to Rockland for the annual lobster festival in 2009.
Since this is our first trip to Maine my wife and I want to be able to experience the best the mid coast area has to offer. We like antiquing, casual shopping, and historical settings and museums. I especially want to see small fishing ports and any thing maritime. So my questions: Is this a good time to come to the mid-coast area or is there a better time that won't be PACKED with tourist like us. Also, would like some recommendations from seasoned travelers to this area for accommodations and quaint dining experiences, especially lobster! Ok... lobsta!
Thank you for your replies.

Two adults wish to trade homes for vacation. Non smoker- non drinker- no pets- interested in portland area- astoria- one to two weeks. We have a comfortable home in Myrtle Beach SC- minutes to the beach and intracoastal waterway. Would be willing to swap with couple with similar interest.
we've got 5N, 6D to make trip to Maine and possibly add Boston. Pl. advise:
1. Arrive in Portland Sat. 5th July Should we just drive up north closer to Bar Harbor or spend the night in Portland?
2. Spend 2N in Bar Harbor & Arcadia. Hotels/BB to recc?
3. Leave for Boston on 8th July - stay in cape cod area. What's the driving distance/time from Bar harbor/Portland to here? Any hotel to recc?
4. leave Cape Cod for Albany (stay with friend) on 11th July
