We will be crossing Kansas from Denver to Kansas City along Rt 70 during the last week in September 2009. We are not campers and will have been in motels for the previous 4 weeks. Does anyone know of a B&B or Boarding House type of lodging along this route? We've never stayed at either. Any info, suggestions, or leads will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Irv
I'll be taking I-70E on my way to Abilene the last week in Sept. and would appreciate any info on hotel/motels between Vicoria and Abilene along the way. Thanks.
I was at a store in the area of 91st and metcalf, I cannot find it but it had Home in the title, they sold unusual items to decorate a home, I am coming back to Kansas City and want to go back there please advise the names of stores around that area that have unusual decorating items..
thank you
Hi there. I waswondering what would be the best and most affordable way to travel from Kansas City airpirt to columbia? I have checked out MoX shuttle but their last pickup is at 8, and my flight arrives at 9:30 pm. Are there any other reasonable options out there? ANy help will be highly appreciated. Thanks!
Any ideas where to find a place to stay on a weekend when all the hotels are booked solid? (Parents weekend @ KU) I am trying to keep from having to stay in Overland Park.
Any advice on where to stay if I'm planning on road tripping out to catch a royals game? I'm looking for a place that is relatively inexpensive (but clean and safe) but has easy access to the ballpark, restaurants, bars, etc. Thanks!
A group of mid to late twenties canadians (8 to be exact) try and hit the first round of march madness every year. This is a classic boys only weekend so we are interested in great food, great drinks and plenty to see and do during both the day and night.
I am pulling for Kansas City to be our 2009 location. I have done a bit of research on the city and I was wondering if anyone could help me out with a few questions.
1) Where would the best area (or even hotel) for us to stay? It would be nice to be in a spot with planty of restaurants (BBQ!), brewpubs and nightlife all relatiely close to the sprint center.
2) Will we need to rent a car for our stay or is getting around town easy enough?
3) I plan on checking out the art museum, jazz museum and possibly the world of fun in addition to the NCAA games. Are there any other attractions or lessor known spots that I simply shouldn't miss?
4) Any suggestions for restaurants, pubs, jazz clubs etc would be greatly appreciated.
Although planning is half the fun of travel, I'm very flexible and have already started tweaking our itinerary before we started. I would appreciate any diversions off this pretty long stretch of our 8,000 mile cross country trip. I'll be posting questions in several forums as I savor each segment. Thanks for all your responses so far, and for those I haven't solicited yet.

I'm looking for any unusual playground in the Wichita area. For example, perhaps it might be built over a stream, into a mountain, have unusual attractions, etc. Can anyone offer advice?
We are 3English people in our early 60s and active. We are planning a ranch holiday in Buena Vista, Colorado for a week, followed by 2weeks touring Kansas and would like to stay in old CowboTowns but at the moment we are having problems finding them. If anyone has any information/recommendations these would be really appreciated.
I belong to the celiac support group and missed their last dinner since I live in Hutch and can't travel much. I rember before I got celiac sprue how great your food was. I heard from the support group you put a list together. could you plese email it to me? I'm planning on coming there tomorrow to eat, shop and go to the Warren. thanks in advance for your help, it's so hard to find somewhere to eat and feel like a normal person and part of a group.
We admire the time it took to help the group and future undiagnosed celiacs. There also have 3 kinds of gluten free beer available that you could order and probably sell quite a bit of, if you would like their names let me know. thanks, Nacy Crawford.
I swear that I have no affiliation with this place; I just ate there last night for the first time and the food was so fantastic that I want to spread the word. Ole Tapas is located at 1008 Massachusetts (I think there used to be an Ethiopian place there). For those of you who haven't had tapas before, it's basically small portions like appetizers, so you can order several different things for a meal. My wife and I had six different items, and all of them were absolutely fantastic. It was one of the best meals we've ever had anywhere. Here's their web site: http://www.ole-tapas.com/
I am new to this website :-) so it is making me a little nervous. I hope to be at the right place to ask the following question...
I could use some help / suggestions with planning of a road trip (about 7 days) from Iowa to Arizona. My parents from Europe will arrive in Iowa sometime in March and plan on renting a car there. They would like to spend one week driving from Des Moines, IA to Phoenix, AZ. During their journey they would like to visit and see as many interesting places as possible - museums, parks, art, history, nature, .... anything interesting and unique to each state. Also, any advice as to where to stay (something more economical), during the 7 days on the road, would be much appreciated.
My name is Teresa Sanchez, from Spain. I'm visiting
Lawrence next August, and I would really appreciate if
you could provide me some information about getting
there from Kansas Internation Airport:
- What are all the possible ways to get there from this airport?
- And what do you think it is the best (quality/price)?
Happy (belated) Kansas Day to all you Jayhawks out there!
This particular January 29th was a special one for me in particular because it was the day we picked up the keys for our new apartment. So long, rent and hello, mortgage!
Anyway, I have now renewed my subscription to Kansas Magazine and saw that a quarter of its subscribers are like me and live outside of Kansas. That suprised me because I am always noticing letters printed in the magazine from people who were born in Kansas but have moved on (with fond memories of home).
That got me wondering...do all the other states have magazines dedicated to them? For instance, is it possible to subscribe to something like Delaware Today or North Dakota Now?
Oh, and what do people think of the new Kansas tourism slogan: It's As Big As You Think?
I do think it's better than Connecticut: Full of Surprises!
I currently reside in Pennsylvania but unfortunately don't really like the people here all that much, mostly because I have a different personality than northern people now. I'm originally from New Jersey but started exploring other areas as a youth. I suppose a long time ago I could have passed as a Pennsylvania farm boy but it seems the people here are a little harder edged than the people I had encountered in the south. I've also met a few people from Kansas and my take was that they seemed to be quiet and reserved, such as my personality most times. So,what about Kansas people?
Are there any groups who like to travel to destinations where playing tennis is a top priority. either staying at resorts or camping or both. In the US , Mexico and Europe
We'll be in Kansas City soon and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a really nice restaurant. Looking for something that has a lot of character.
Hi Am flying into Kansas City MO, then I have been told to take a shuttle bus to Junction City. From there I need to get to Abilene (am working at the Eisenhower Library) - any ideas? is a taxi the only way?
Also other than the Library is there anything else to see or do in Abilene? I heard its small ;P Thanks for any help
Hi, my name is Siv and next year I going to travel to Argentina on my own for the first time. I'v been to Bolivia but with an organisation that arranged everything for me. So I am appealing to anyone who has travelled on their own or with a friend in South America really. I just would like to know whether or not its easier to get out there and book up tour and treks, and how much it's like to cost me for 1 and a half months of travel.
I will transfer in Kansas City at night , if my train is not on time , I have to over night in Kansas City , if anyone can recommend me a nice and safe hostel or b&b close to train station , will be a very big help ~!! thank sss in advanced ;D
We need to travel here for a chess event. What I can gather is these are really small towns; we're from San Francisco, used to the big city. Are the communities here diverse, friendly?
My wife, toddlers, and I are thinking about moving back to Kansas City. I grew up in Overland Park, but haven't lived there for almost 20 years now. Ideally, I'm looking for a good middle class income community with new development, young families, and good schools. My parents live in Leawood, but that's too expensive and seems a better fit for older families or retirees (like them).
Can anybody suggest good growth locations that would be within 30 minutes of Leawood? How is Olathe doing now? I hear that Lee's Summit has had a growth boom, too. We're visiting later this summer to look around so any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks!
