Chicago Limo Service from Madison WI to the O'Hare Neighborhood.
Posted: Sat July 19, 2008 06:38 PM UTC
Has anybody worked with "My Chicago Land Limo" service before. We want to hire them to take us to a hotel in the O'Hare neighborhood from Madison WI, they certainly had the best price. However, they would not provide a quote in writing (maybe I was talking to the wrong guy for that?) and also they didn't have an email or fax listed on their website. Maybe somebody can provide a different trustsed vendor, we don't need fancy just affordable.

Chicago Follow Up question about accomodation
Posted: Sat July 5, 2008 03:05 AM UTC
I have done some research and Oak Park seems to be an interesting destination in and of itself....I gather that the Metra (or El) has a line that runs from OP to downtown loop. Any thoughts of two of the hotels I see mentioned: The Write Inn, and the Carleton of Oak Park? How about the chains like Holiday Inn, etc...any in the area?

Thanks

Chicago Girl's Weekend in Chicago
Posted: Tue July 1, 2008 02:05 PM UTC
My college friend and I are planning a Girl's Weekend in Chicago on the weekend of July 11th. I have all ready made several reservations but other than dinner, I don't have any night life plans made yet. Any ideas for a couple of girls in their late 30's to early 40's. Although we will mainly be around the Magnificent Mile and Theatre district, we are pretty flexible.

Also, what attire is best for the summer evening in Chicago? What would fit in with the locals?

Chicago Aussie Girls In Chicago
Posted: Thu June 26, 2008 04:08 AM UTC
Hi Everyone,

My best mate and I are coming to Chicago in December - we are looking at staying at the HI USA Hostel, but havent booked anywhere yet - wanted to see if anyone had any advice on it or better?

Also, we really appreciate getting out and about in the evening social scene - any other tips on that would be greatly appreciated!!

We only have a few days there passing through so want to fit in as much as possible, so a central locale would be awesome, and any other advice at all would be excellent!

Sorry for the question overload!

Cheers,
V

Chicago O'Hare area hotels...easy access to Chicago?
Posted: Thu June 12, 2008 03:11 AM UTC
Hi. I am looking at a visit in early fall to Chicago. From the research I've done it seems hotels around O'Hare might be the most economical. Do you think it is feasible to use a airport hotel as a base and commute downtown each day? Or how about some of the other areas, like Midway airport? Or suburbs?

Thanks for any advice or recommendations.

Chicago Chicago in July
Posted: Wed June 11, 2008 11:29 AM UTC
I just started to plan my possible longest vacation ever (6 weeks in July and August 2008). Nothing sure as for now. The first and main idea of the whole trip is to visit western Canada and Alaska. On the way to Seattle or Anchorage I could stop for 3-6 days in Chicago (long lay-over) as I wanted to see the biggest Polish city for years :-). Well, I am not sure about the idea and it adds some additional costs (flight). So, a few questions:

1. What weather to except in Chicago between say 10th and 20th July? Is that really very hot (windy?) I was told to? Is Chicago worth a visit just in summer or maybe I should do it another time?
2. Are there any VT-ers in the city to meet during that time?
3. What are your Pro for a visit to Chicago just in July?

Hugs from sunny Poland,
Matt + matcrazy0 :-))))

Chicago Most Interesting and LOCAL places for a drink
Posted: Thu June 5, 2008 06:35 PM UTC
Hey y'all,

A couple friends and I are spending this weekend in Chicago and we are going to catch a Twins/Sox game and stay downtown. I have been to Chicago numerous times and I guess I'm looking for something off the beaten path.

Preference is for anyplace that's local, not a club, doesn't have alot of fake people... and that has some character. A place near the ballpark wouldn't be terrible.

Seems like every city has a few of these "original" places that I can't find on any website...and only the locals go there..

Help me find them :)

Chicago Quick trip to Chicago! Help!
Posted: Tue June 3, 2008 02:10 AM UTC
HI! My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to Chicago in August. However, it will be a rush trip. We arrive on a Friday morning (9:00 am) with enough time to get something to eat (hopefully drink a little too!!) before we head off to a Cubs game (1:00pm) and then we leave on Saturday evening. I was hoping that someone could give me some suggestions on attractions to visit. I have read about the more popular ones such as Navy Pier, the Sears Tower, the Magnificent Mile, etc...but are there any that are unique and unusual? How about restaraunts?? Any awesome pizza hangouts? I want to get the real Chicago experience and I know it will be difficult in such a short amount of time...so, I am looking to ya'll (yep, a real Texan here) for help. I am prepared to go without sleep, although it will be a little hard convincing my boyfriend of that, but if it is worth it, he may be more cooperative. LOL! Thanks so much for any suggestions/advice!!!!!

We will be staying at the W Lakeshore in Chicago. Is it safe to swim in Lake Michigan. If it is safe, how far from the hotel or Navy Pier to get to the swimming area.

Hallo!

Can anyone inform how much costs a taxi ride from Union Station to Hyde Park? Is there additional charge for luggage?

Is there another convenient way to do this trip (without changing buses or trains in between)?

Thanks in advance!

Chicago Back from Chicago
Posted: Sun May 18, 2008 11:18 PM UTC
Thanks for everyone who offered tips for our Chicago trip, we had a great time!

I will never be able to eat pizza as good as the 3 deep dish pies we had!

It rained a few days and for the most part, on the cool side (since it is May), but we had a sunny day for the zoo and most other days were just cloudy.

Our only complaints were the 3 hours it took to take the train to downtown from O'Hare! Yes, 3 hours! There was maintenance, construction and some other things that occurred during the weekend and it was a nightmare, not a good way to start our vacation. Coming back to Toronto, our AA flight was cancelled and then delayed 3 times. We waited at O'Hare and our flight finally departed 10 hours later!!! We felt like Tom Hanks from "The Terminal."

The people are a mix up super friendly and downright rude, but you will get that in any large city.

Our highlight was seeing The Blue Man group at the last minute. I was picked from the audience to be part of the show and it was a thrill!

I highly recommend Chicago to anyone, but next time, we'll pay to take the shuttle to/from the airport and personally, we won't fly with AA in the future. We know airlines are notoriously late, however, about 90% of the flights for that day were delayed (only up to 1 hour), and our's was the worst delay of all. Could happen on any airline, but it seemed to be a disatrous day for flying AA.

Chicago Loop to Berwyn on Red line; walk to N Clark
Posted: Thu May 15, 2008 10:45 PM UTC
Hi - I will be visiting Chicago for the first time in a few weeks.

I just wanted to see if I could get a quick feel for what various neighbourhoods are like from you guys.

If I was in the Loop area and took Red Line up to Berwyn, and then walked from there to N Clark, at night, alone, would that a reasonable trip to make, or would I be crazy?

I intend to explore some Andersonville bars and clubs and wonder if I can use public transportation at least to get there in the evening from a Loop area base, if not make a very late-nite return.

Any thoughts from somebody with local knowledge would be much appreciated.

Many thanks - pete

Chicago Bars and Clubs in chicago which allow over 18's in but NOT to drink..
Posted: Tue May 13, 2008 04:02 PM UTC
Hello

Further to my previous question could I also ask if anyone knows of any nice bars and clubs in chicago city centre which would allow a 20 year old in but not to drink? My boyfriend and myself and boyfriends brother and girlfriend have discussed possibly going out one night for a few drinks (non alcohol for me obviously!) but I am the only one under 21! I definatley am not even going to attempt to buy alcohol because I know how stringent US law is in regards to drinking etc and I dont want to get myself or anyone else in trouble! I was just under the impression that sometimes in the US certain bars and clubs allow you in over a certain age (say 18, 19) but do not allow you to drink. Is this true and if so does this apply to Chicago? Many thanks again! x

Chicago A week in Chicago and Washington ?
Posted: Mon May 12, 2008 07:34 PM UTC
We are considering a 7 nights trip to USA this year.
We are fans of cultural spots and already been to NYC three times.

Usually we spend a week in Paris every year and another week to discover a foreign town such as Venise,Rome, London,Amsterdam,Florence,Lisbonne,Prague,Budapest, etc...

What would you think of a trip including 4 nights in Chicago and 3 nights in Washington ? Is it worth a long flight from Europe ?
We are looking for architecture, visits , museums and ... people of course.
Is there another town in the eastern part of the USA that you would suggest ?
Thanks to all.
