Kauai Kauai in March
Posted: Sun October 25, 2009 04:17 AM UTC
My wife and I are considering a trip to Kauia in March to celebrate an anniversary. We've never been to Kauai, so we would appreciate any advise regarding accomodations. Activities are not a big deal, as we reside on the Big Island and have probably been there and done that. Priorities would be nice views, friendly people (staff and guests). A little cheesey is OK in the big picture!

Kauai Please help with trip specifics in Kauai
Posted: Wed September 30, 2009 11:57 PM UTC
Help PLEASE, with some or all of these Kauai questions! 1.Best Luau? 2.Best Helicopter tour/company? 3.Best Napali sunset dinner sail and water tour(that goes in the caves)? 4.What's the best way to see Wailua River? 5.Should we take guided tour of canyon or just go see it? 6.What about "Backcountry Tubing Adventure"? 7.Any submarine rides? My husband and I are going next month and staying at the Grand Hyatt. This weary mom can hardly get excited for trying to decide on which tour providers to use. I would really appreciate some insight. I'd like to prebook before we get there so we can quit sifting through so much info. And enjoy paradise! Thank you in advance. :)

Kauai Kauai in February: Too cold to snorkel?
Posted: Sun September 27, 2009 09:48 PM UTC
My husband and I may go to Kauai in February and will be staying on the south shore (per recommendation), do you think it will be too cold to snorkel during that time? Is there a good snorkeling beach on the south shore during the winter months? Also, are there any nice condos for rent on the south shore on the beach?

Thanks so much!

Kauai Beachfront in Kauai:)
Posted: Sun September 27, 2009 01:37 AM UTC
My husband and I are planning our honeymoon in Kauai for February and would like some advise on where to stay. We are looking for beachfront accomodations so we can walk to a nice beach from our room and we can lay in the sun! We arent overly concerned about the price, just want a really comfortable easy access to the beach place to stay. If there was a nice outdoor bar/lounge area that would be a bonus along w/ good food. I know this cant be too much to ask for as we have heard Kauai is the most beautiful place!

Kauai So much wonder and beauty so little time....
Posted: Sat June 27, 2009 11:19 PM UTC
Any suggestions on the "Must see and Do" in Kauai? My husband and myself are leaving on July 3rd for the vacation of our dreams. THis was a last minute trip so I haven't had much time to research the area. We love the outdoors and great food. Snorkeling, zipline, kayak, hiking, body surfing and oh yea relaxing. We will be staying at a time share in the Princeville area.
Thanks in advance for any travel tips. I have been going over a copy of Kauai Revealed and now think 1 week is only going to scrape the surface.

Kauai Best part of island?
Posted: Mon May 25, 2009 02:57 PM UTC
We're looking at a 7 - 10 day visit to Kauai this summer. My wife, myself and our 11 year old son. Not sure what part of island to stay on. We are looking to relax but also want to be near restaurants, etc. Were originally looking at Kapaa or Lihue. Want to avoid traffic congestion as well. Any suggestions as to what shore / town we should stay in? Thanks.

Kauai From Garden Island to massive developments?
Posted: Fri May 8, 2009 01:38 PM UTC
Hi all again,

I've read some comments about recent travellers that went to Kauai and the impression I got was that the garden island is pretty much disappearing under all this massive constructions of shopping malls, resorts, golf clubs, apartments... is that true?? If so which part of Kauai is the best place to go, where I can have a taste of the natural beauty of the island?

thanks!

Kauai 20 days in Kauai
Posted: Thu May 7, 2009 12:51 AM UTC
Hi everyone,
I'm planning to go to Kauai for about 20 days from London! I'm going on my own and I would like to know how safe it is for a solo traveller, also I'm a student so it will be a budget holiday therefore I need to find affordable and friendly accommodation in the island.
I really appreciate any kind of advice or useful tips that anyone could give me to carry on with my "little" adventure.
Thanks

Kauai Condo- hotel

Hi all- can anyone recommend a great place to stay in Kauai that is a condo- style accommodation but part of a hotel/resort? In short, we want the best of both worlds- we would like a kitchen to prepare breakfasts and coffee, but also would like full restaurant, bar, and service amenities when by the pool or not in the mood to cook! THANKS!

Kauai Kauai during pregnancy
Posted: Wed December 17, 2008 07:38 AM UTC
Hi,

My wife and I are planning to go to Kauai in Jan'09 and she will be almost 4 months pregnant then. We have been to Maui previously. We are planning on being there for a week. Pretty much a relaxing trip with light activities, sightseeing, driving around etc. Some Qs,

(i) Any suggestion on where to stay (Poipu/Princeville/Kapaa)? Not very touristy but still not very far from medical aid just in case. Looks like North receives much more rain in Jan but seems more scenic and peaceful.

(ii) I am planning to search in VRBO listings. Anywhere else to look for condos/accomodation.

(iii) Any recommendation on activities that we could do. Any not to miss attractions

(iv) Anything to be aware of or to avoid in Kauai.

Thanks in advance!

Kauai Visit in January
Posted: Wed October 22, 2008 06:36 PM UTC
We are going to visit Kauai in January staying at the Princeville Westin Resort. I hear the weather is around 70 degrees that time of year, is that correct. We did not know how much would be going on that time of year, if all tours ran etc.
I husband wants to golf, but prices on golf courses around our condo are high. Are there any other courses that might be more reasonable.

We have rent a jeep based on suggestion from this site. What tours would be suggested to go on.

Kauai Logistical Advice Sought for Hiking on Kalalau Trail
Posted: Fri October 17, 2008 05:06 PM UTC
Hi, I am planning to hike & camp the Kalalau Trail for 2009, and wanted to ask the following logistical questions from people who are experienced with it:

1) Which, in your opinion, is a better time to go (in terms of drier weather conditions, not as crowded): mid-late May or early-mid June, or would it make not that much difference?

2) I am trying to carve out a reasonable sketch for my hike. Does this sound a reasonable plan? Day 1: Hike from Ke'e Beach all the way through to Kalalau Beach (camp there). Day 2: Kalalau Beach --> Kalalau Valley trail --> end at Hanakapi'ai camp site (camp there). Day 3: Finish off rest of trail hiking to Hanakapi'ai Falls, then back to Ke'e Beach. Should I allow for an additional day in case of flooded/impassable trails?

3) I have downloaded a camping permit online...I am assuming the day-hiking permits is a separate thing, and you need to have both types of permits? Are the permits for hiking only attainable at the Lihue Parks office? If so, are they easy to obtain there once you arrive in Kauai?

Some additional minor questions (I'm trying to plan to going as light as possible, based on the advice I've read):

4) Can you get by on the trail with (lighter) trail-running sneakers, or are hiking boots really the best?
5) Should I plan to bring a tent there, or (I'm hoping) can I get by on just a sleeping bag?

Thanks so much for your help, and sorry if any of these are naive questions! :)

Kauai Hiking & Camping in Kauai
Posted: Tue August 26, 2008 08:34 PM UTC
My better half and I are looking to hike and camp Kauai for a week in Fall 2009.

I know that you can stay at the State parks for around $5 a night.

Does anyone have any routes/areas that will take us about 5/6 days to trail? We're thinking of the north west area of Kauai.

We also plan on spending our final night there in a hotel. Can anyone recommend a night hotel with pool (and hot showers!!) thats not too expensive?

Many thanks in advance

Kauai Advice to a novice

My wife and I (we're in our 50's) will be making our first trip to Kauai for 6 days in mid-October, 2008. We'd like to spend the whole time in 1 place with a beach view for roughly $200 to $350 per night, either a 1 bedroom condo or a hotel suite. Any suggestions?

Kauai Need a/c on North Shore Kauai in August?
Posted: Fri May 9, 2008 10:24 PM UTC
We are taking (finally) the teenagers for a week-long trip to Kauai at the end of August. Don't want to do much - just sit and watch the clouds roll by. We'd like to rent a house for the six of us near the beach. Will we need a/c? and where do we want to be? Two of the kids surf, two like to hike (I'm a hiker, too).

Thanks!! Linda

Kauai Visiting Kauai with a Toddler
Posted: Sat March 29, 2008 02:33 AM UTC
Hello!! So we will be visiting Kauai in June and we will be bringing our then 21 month old daughter. I have been researching everything possible and just want to know if anyone has any recommendations on Catamaran tours that are baby friendly. Most say ages 2 and up, so I think we will be fine (close enough to being 2). Does anyone have any other toddler friendly ideas? We are very active and plan on doing some hiking and we would love to do a zipline tour. Is it possible for one of us to go while the oher holds the tot and then switch? Any recs would be great! Thanks!!!

Kauai Which area? East, West, Central, North, South? HELP!
Posted: Sun March 9, 2008 11:08 PM UTC
Hi all, thanks for everyone who replied to my earlier postings about the colony resort and waimai cottages. I am just overwhelmed with how much there is to see and do. How do you go about making the decision about which area to stay in? We will be going in the summer time. The North sounds perfect because of the relative quiet, the cliffs and scenary, but I wonder about rain and safe swimming beaches for young children. The Coconut coast area and the south coast seems wonderful sunny, but are probably the most crowded areas.

Travelling certainly isn't inexpensive, and I want to make the best decision possible. If anyone has advice or experiences to share, please chime in. We would be traveling with our children who would be 6 and 9 at the time of the trip.

Thanks!

Kauai Hanalei Colony Resort... Waimea plantation cottages??
Posted: Wed February 27, 2008 09:49 PM UTC
Hello,

I am sifting through information for a trip in a year or so-- my husband and I and our two children (6 and 9 then). Has anyone been to the Hanalei Colony Resort lately? Is it a good place for families? The north end of the island looks beautiful, but I have heard than rain and getting around is more difficult? I don't know how much of an issue that is.

I also keep seeing descriptions of the Waimai plantation cottages in the central (?) part of the island. Anyone been there?

The Sheraton and Hyatt look great for families, but are really costly, and we'd really like to find a place not quite as crowded as a large hotel.

Please pass along any thoughts or suggestions.

Thanks!
