Hello Friends,
I see that most of the hotels in maui are priced at $85/day and above and convertibles at $75/day. I was wondering if there are cheaper accomodations and car rentals that are not posted on the internet.
I am looking to rent a condo in Maui but mainly want to known what the different beaches in Maui are like. I am looking for a long wide white sand beach with a gentle dropoff and no waves. If it has a reef further out, that's great.
Which beach would best fit this description? I will search for condos based upon the beach . I will have a car but want to be ON the beach . thanks
Luau Advice Posted: Wed August 26, 2009 10:30 PM UTC
Hey guys,
(Last question - I promise)!!! We were looking at going to the Old Lahaina Luau which I hear is gorgeous! My only concern is the long drive back to Kihei after a mai tai or two. Should we just go to the one in Wailea? It looks a little more commercial than the Old Lahaina one, but still pretty nice. Thanks again to all of our virtual tourist friends who have given us advice on our Maui trip.
1. anybody heard of justmauied.com for a wedding planner? Seems like a well organized site and reasonable priced. Just wondered if they follow through.
2. Any suggestions fro clothing store 9 maybe in Lahina) that sell matching his/hers Hawaii outfits for a casual beach wedding.
You were so helpful with the accommodation advice. Thank you everyone. Can I ask your advice again regarding a snorkel trip to Molokini? I think I have narrowed it down to 3 boats.
Alii Nui
Paragon
Trilogy
Do any of you have experience or advice regarding any of these boats? We would like to be on a boat that isn't too crowded and also enjoy a nice cruise, food, and of course great snorkeling!
Aloha! We will be going to Maui later this month and plan to spend one day scuba diving. We will be staying near Ka'anapali beach. If you have suggestions for good dive boats or preferred dive locations closer to where we're staying, please share! We can either go out on a dive boat or do shore diving, what ever you guys suggest.
Thanks!
Still trying to find a nice (affordable) 2 bedroom condo in Kihei for December.I was looking at Kamaole Sands and Maui Kamaole which both look nice. The rates are fairly expensive for a 2 bedroom with the exchange (we are Canadian) and with the 12% Hawaii tax, it rounds up to about $2,000 which is fairly pricey just for accommodation. Can anyone give us some other suggestions please for a nice, clean condo close to the beach and ammenities in Kihei?
Does anyone here have any experience driving on Rt. 31, the Piilani Highway? This is the "other" road to/from Hana, which crosses the southern part of the island.
I'm going to be down near Wailea for a few days and then need to head to Hana from there. Someone suggested I could take some local roads and then Rt. 31 to Hana from there as an alternative to taking Rt. 360. But from what I've read,it sounds like parts of this route are often not passable. I also have no idea what the local roads between Wailea and Rt 31 will be like. I will NOT have a 4x4.
Thanks everybody for your great info. Unfortunately, it made me realize I have more questions.
We want to snorkel in a nice snorkeling area. Any suggestions as to what the best areas are? We also want to layout on the beach, do these activities go hand in hand, or are the good snorkeling areas not on sandy beaches?
We will rent a car, because I think we have to. so that means we can stay in any cheap hotel or private rental (thanks for the VRBO suggestion!) and drive to a good beach. This island looks small but I am concerned we might end up driving for 30-40 minutes everytime we come and go to our hotel. The question is, Are there parts of the island that are more than 30 minutes away from good beach/snorkeling activites?
Can any of you Maui afficianados recommend a place to stay with very good beach access that is not expensive? Or recommend a good place to search for the best deal?
BTW, crazy dates chosen due to availability of free mileage tickets. Have not been to Hawaii since I was six, so I have no feel if booking hotels needs to be weekly, or are random dates ok.
We plan to visit Maui the first week of December, so I would love some advice.
First, how is the weather at that time of year? (I know it's not as nice as spring/summer, but I hope it won't be raining constantly)
Secondly, we are looking for a nice 2 bedroom in Kihei. Both Kamaole Sands and Maui Kamaole look nice and I see they are across the street from the beach. Any suggestions for condos on the beach in the Kihei area? Many of the condos on the beach look pretty old to me.
Last question please. How far ahead do we need to book for December?
Thanks so much for your advice and input everyone.
Black Rocks Posted: Sun June 28, 2009 02:54 AM UTC
My son and I spent Christmas in Kihei two years ago. When we got back to Texas, I noticed my son had brought back some black rocks. Since then, we have had some financial problems. Then I remembered about the legend of the black rocks bringing you bad luck. I have been wanting to return them, but I don't know where. Can anyone give me an address so that I can return them? I would really appreciate it.
Maui in July Posted: Mon June 1, 2009 01:56 AM UTC
We are heading to Maui in July ... pretty stoked since I haven't been there since late 90s and my wife has never been there at all. Just had a couple questions ...
Is there surf in Ka'anapali, specifically, in front of the Ka'anapali Ocean Inn? (http://www.kaanapalioceaninn.com/)
Do you need a 4-wheel drive car to make it up to the peak of Haleakala?
Has anyone ever shipped a bike to any bike shopes in the Kahului airport area?
I'm playing with the idea of shipping my bike ahead of time to the area and paying a small fee to have a bike shop receive, store the bike box, and put my bike togethor for when I get there, followed by doing everything in reverse.
Ok, so if I've all ready been to Maui before and all I want to do is rent a condo, sleep in, read a book, get a suntan, take a swim, eat some food and go back to bed.....there for I don't need a rental car......how easy is it to catch the public bus system to and from the Kahului airport to the Wailea and/or lahaina areas?
Hi
I wanted to go from Oahu to Maui by ferry, but the Superferry just closed down. I realy would like to go by boat, and not by fly. Any idea, like for ex. local fishing boat? Thanks a lot!
Just wondering what the cheapest and locations are to rent a car around the Kahului Airport. Taking a trip to Maui in October. Anybody have some good tips for me. I welcome any other tips about ANYTHING regarding Maui. This is my first time to the Islands!
Hi Everyone,
We're planning our trip to Maui and I'm trying to figure out a reasonable price for 3 week stay in August, someplace near the beach. We're looking for a direct rental from owner and we have 3 small kids to consider.Any suggestions?
Thank you!
My husband is planning on power hand gliding while in Maui. (Hana Airport)
We would like to do this the same day as we travel the Hana Road.
Our problem is the time line on getting to Hana for handgliding.
We’re planning on leaving Kihei at 7 am and want to sightsee all the way to Hana.
Would 1 pm be an ok time to book the flight and still see most of the sights on the way to Hana road without be rushed. And then continue on past Hana at 3 pm. to be back by dark?
We were hoping only to make 1 trip on the Hana Road if possible.
Thank You.
Going to Maui in March. Where can I rent a wheel chair on Maui? Would it be cheaper/easier to buy or rent one at home and transport on plane. User is mobility impaired, but can walk for short distances. We would be locking the chair in car on occassion. Should we get theft insurance?
I will be visiting Maui in early September. Any suggestions on where to stay? I believe that the wedding we are attending is near Kaanapali. Also, I am traveling from the east coast of N. America so I was wondering how many days I should stay to fully enjoy my trip. I have heard before that jet lag can be a real problem for some people. Also, I am trying to keep my trip at under $2000 per person. Any input would be wonderful!
I am also curious if you have any tips while we are there, must-sees, great restaurants, what to bring...
April in Maui? Posted: Thu January 29, 2009 07:51 AM UTC
Hi there!
We are a European family of seven with five kids between 2 and 13. Never been to that area before. What's the weather like in Maui in the first half of April? It seems SW would be the warmest area? After the long winter here we are looking forward to some sun, the ocean and the beaches. And the experience of the feel and the nature of this wonderful island. Any advice on a suitable oceanfront stay location for a group like ours? Or anything else that seems appropriate? Many thanks in advance :))
Please help! We can't decide to vacation in South Kihei or Napili area. We have found condos available for our trip in late March to both areas and we can't make a decision on what area. What would be a better location for us? We would like nice hot weather with a nice beach, oceanfront and beautiful scenery.
We found several oceanfront condos at Napili Shores Condo- looks like a really nice quiet area but a friend told us that it isn't as warm and its too windy and much too far from the action. Is there that much difference in weather between the two areas? Another condo that is available is Maui Kamole which looks nice but not oceanfront which is fairly important to us. But the weather sounds nicer in South Kihei.
So please make our decision easier by telling us the best spot to go or any suggestions you can offer. Sorry for bothering again but we haven't been on a trip for years and we want to make the right decision. Thank you so much.
we plan on going to maui for a week and at this point we are thinking about renting a camper van.
is it unrealistic to think that we will find camping sites for 7 nights while touring the island?? some sites i read say it is difficult to camp in maui, while others say it is easy??
any insight would help!
it will be our first time to Maui and even though we did a lot of research on the internet on where to stay, we haven't found 'our' place yet.
We are a couple in our 30's looking for a quiet lush place near the beach, away from car and construction noise. We have seen awesome places on the internet but the prices are very high. Since we are staying for 10 nights, 100USD would be our max for 1 night. We would like any kind of accomodation: resort, hotel B&B, owner direct rentals, as long as it is clean, near a beach and affordable!
Anyone out there that has recommendations?
We would really appreciate your help!
Hello, this is our first trip to Maui and Hawaii in general. We would like tips on Luaus, submarine dives and the Ocean Center. Also, since we'll be staying at our timeshare in Napili Bay we'll be purchasing breakfast/snacky things, what are the prices like and gas prices? Here in California we're running at approx. $2.85 for a gallon of gas. Thank you all in advance for any tips/help you can provide.
