Miri Tours and accomodation
Posted: Mon November 20, 2006 12:56 PM UTC
Does anyone know if there are guides there we can arrange tours with? I'd like to give the locals business rather than have some tour agency pocket half my money.

Is there alternative accomodation to the Royal Mulu Resort and the Mulu park dorms?

Thanks!

Miri getting to Mulu
Posted: Sat July 29, 2006 08:13 AM UTC
I was wondering if anyone knows the website that enables you to book Twin Otter flights from Miri to Mulu (for the Mulu caves), and Mulu to Kota Kinabalu . Can't seem to book it on the Malaysia Airlines and Air Asia home web sites.

Miri Transport and Accommodation in Mulu National Park
Posted: Mon May 22, 2006 12:53 PM UTC
The flight to & from Mulu National Park is full in early July. Has Anyone experienced geting there by boat? Please let me have the details. According to a websie: In addition to the park lodge (gov), a number of guesthouses are situated along the Melinau River, adjacent to the park. I would like to know how to contact those guesthouses. I am a budget traller I really want to stay with a cheaper accommodation. By the way someone said the park lodge is dirty and many rats there, is it true?

Thanks a lot

Miri Returning to Miri after 41 years
Posted: Wed April 27, 2005 10:49 AM UTC
During the 'Confrontation' following Independence, I was one of the young British soldiers who took part in operations on the border.
My recollections of Miri are of a small oil town where the people were very friendly.
We were stationed beside the police barracks close to the sea. In the limited time off, I remember fondly the entertainment at the Miri Recreation Club where we were made very welcome. Does it still exist? It was close to the Police Barracks as I remember.
I will be in Miri from 12 September 2005 before moving on to Kuching on the 15th.
Does anyone have some suggestions as to the kind of things I would be able to do that will give me a flavour of what it was like then? I will be travelling with my wife and am not into 4 1/2 hour trips in the ulu.
What about car hire? I also would hope to visit Lutong and Seria when I am there.
Are there flights to Bario that could be done in a day?

Miri boat trip from Miri to mulu
Posted: Wed April 27, 2005 02:34 AM UTC
Hi, has anyone got any advice for travelling by boat from Miri to Mulu Caves? We'll be staying at the Royal Mulu Resort.

I know I should go to Kuala Baram, then catch a boat to Marudi, then to Long Terawan. Is Marudi ok to stay overnight in? Are there many chartered longboats at Long Terawan? Is it hard to get one?

I have considered flying both ways, rather than taking the boat one way. Is it worth catching the boat???

Miri accomodation
Posted: Fri April 8, 2005 03:33 AM UTC
Hi,
I need accomodation for 1 night in Miri. Where is somewhere cheap and clean?
Also, what is there to do in Miri for 1 day (it's just a stop over on my way to Mulu). I'm going on my honeymoon and my fiancee (husband to be!) and I are particularly interested in stoneware and handmade pottery - mugs, vases etc. Should we buy that sort of stuff in Miri, or wait until we go to Kuching? Where in Kuching is good for handicrafts (good quality ones, but still quite cheap)??

Thanks so much

Miri Mulu National Park

Hi,
I would like to visit Mulu Park in August for 2-3 nights. Could anybody recommend accomodation there? The Royal Mulu Resort looks quite nice but is rather expensive.
Should I arrange Air Transport in advance or can I do it when I'm there?
