Alternative resort to Tuna Bay Posted: Mon March 31, 2008 12:07 AM UTC
My boyfriend and I are going to Malaysia next August and want to spend 5 days in Perhentians. We wanted to stay at Tuna Bay as we were told it is the best resort in Besar but it is already fully booked, so I don't know which resort to book. I have seen Cocohut chalets and Perhentian Island Resort as alternatives but not sure if PIR is worth the price and if Cocohut will be comfortable. We are not looking for luxury but for a clean and comfortable place with A/C and hot water, near a nice sandy beach suitable for swimm.
I am also considering the option of staying at Bubu Resort on Kecil, but we would prefer to stay in a chalet ,not in a hotel room. And Kecil will probably be two crowed or noisy.
Could you help me , please ?

Daily expense? Posted: Sun February 17, 2008 06:31 PM UTC
Hi
Given there's no cashpoints on the island, I'm looking to establish how much to budget for my 6 night stay. What's the going rate for a decent meal & drinks on this island?

I already posted a request fo an e address on an earlier question. I have tried all the suggestions and still have not managed to make a booking. I was hoping for Mama's Chalets but suggestions for any budget accommodation that I can book in advance would be good.

Kota Bahru Airport to Kuala Besut Posted: Sat January 19, 2008 09:44 PM UTC
Guys,
Thank you for posting so much information about Perhentian, however I would like to ask how much does it cost to get from the Airport to the Jetty? What are the options? I understand that the prices for a taxi is RM40-50 pax and RM65 for the whole car. Is that true? Most-likely I will be staying at Tuna Bay and they have their own mode of transportation, should I opt. for that???
Thanks.

Visit in February 2008 Posted: Wed December 19, 2007 04:42 PM UTC
Hi everybody!
i have some questions regarding my stay on Perhentian Island.
Is it recommended to stay there in February? Is the water clear, to go for a snorkelling trip? Does anybody has experiences in going there in February?
What are the best and cheapest chalets or hotels there?
Are there any other things to consider?
Thanks

How do I get there??? Posted: Tue May 15, 2007 08:52 PM UTC
Hello!
I am currently trying to sort out my honeymoon and for part of it we are thinking about going to the Perhentian Islands but we are not sure how to get there. We will be going from Johor Bahru having just flown back from Borneo. Do you know if we could get a train / coach up there and how long would it take?
Also which Island would you recommend?
Thanks very much

Coming from Cameron Highlands Posted: Thu April 5, 2007 06:47 AM UTC
are there any really early or even over night buses to Kuala Besut from Cameron Highlands?? The earliest one I could find so far is at 10am.. but it'll take about six hrs to get to Kuala Besut, which means I won't get to the island till around 5 if not later... I don't really want to waste my day on a bus...

newbie to Perhentian Island :) Need some help! Posted: Sun April 1, 2007 09:56 PM UTC
HI everyone ;) I'm planning to go to Perhentian Besar this early May, does anyone know if it's a good time (in terms of weather condition etc) to visit there?
Also, I'd like to go diving but I actually have ZERO experience. I know they offer open dive course but I don't think I'll have enough time for that. Is it still possible to go diving with an instructor when you have no experience at all? I found some deals in the various hotels on this island (the ones that have been mentioned in this forum) and they seem to offer some pretty good packages with accomodations and diving/snokelling acitivities, do you guys think they are worth the price? And if anyone knows of any good deals out there, please let me know :)
Thanks a tons!!

Pulau Perhentian Besar: Can it be done? Posted: Sat March 24, 2007 08:32 AM UTC
My family will be in Sabah for 12 days. We have not accounted for the last four, and I would love to travel to Perhentian Besar, and perhaps stay at Tuna Bay Resort. Is it possible to come back from Kota Kinabalu through peninsular Malaysia to Kuala Terengganu, then on to the ferry to Tuna Bay? I tried pricing this with Malaysian Airlines, and it used up a whole travel day to get there, and the flight was costly. Is there a better/faster/cheaper solution? (If all else fails, how does Tunku Abdul Rahman Park compare?)Thanks for any help.

Perhentian or Langkawi Posted: Thu March 15, 2007 08:40 AM UTC
Hi everyone. I have the option of visiting the Perhentian Islands or Langkawi when I travel out to Malaysia in a couple of weeks time. We have not been to malaysia before but have spent a lot of time in Thailand. We like the laid back atmosphere of quieter Thai islands (Ko Chang, Ko Lanta, Ko Phangan) and do not enjoy the busy places like Ko Samui or Phuket.
I realise the Perhentian Islands may be more like what we are looking for. How do they compare to Langkawi. Is Langkawi now very busy and spoilt and which option would you recommend for us?

I am planing to come out on the 25th February, my understanding is that monsoon season would have ended by then but the more I read the more I get the impression that March is the end of the monsoon. Is it open on 25-28 Oct 2006? Posted: Sun October 8, 2006 03:18 AM UTC
Dear friends,
We (9 of us) already got flight tickets to Kota Bahru cuz we plan to go to Perhentian Besar Island on 25-28 Oct 2006. But I got different informations from the websites, some says on those dates will be closed cuz of the monsoon and Ramadhan - some says some resorts will be open.
Do u happen to know any resort that open on those dates? How bad monsoon will affect? Cuz in my country (Indonesia), I never heard any island that close when it's monsoon season.
Thank you.
Cheers,
P
