| Kuching | Trip from Kuching to KK by road Posted: Mon July 17, 2006 04:55 PM UTC
Hello, this is my first time travelling on land from Kuching to KK. I would appreciate it very much if any of those who has done this before (or partly eg. from Kuching to Sibu/Miri) would give some tips as to how to travel the right roads. Also need some tips on what to watch out for in the journey, places that I should have 'pit-stops', ideal places to rest on the way.
I also need some info on how to get to the KK borderline safe passing. Do I need to go through Brunei and what are the preparations I need to do so? Thanks in advance ~ elf |

We have just found out that the 2nd and 3rd of June are public holidays(HM Pertuan Agong's Birthday) will everything be closed for these 2 days including the Sunday markets? | Kuching | Need some more help!!!!!!!!!!! Posted: Thu April 20, 2006 10:13 AM UTC
Only a few more weeks and we will be in Kuching and KK. What I am hoping someone can help me with is:
Would it be cheaper to get my prescription glasses made in Kuching or KK as to here in Australia if I take along a prescription from my optomitrist. Also are there any tailors or dress makers as I would like to get a couple of items made up and am wandering if it is cheaper there also. Look forward to hearing from you ladyhawkau |

| Kuching | Should we be worried. Posted: Tue February 28, 2006 08:06 AM UTC
We recieved this email today from the Dept of Foereign affairs today. We are travelling to Kuching and KK in June is this as bad as it reads or is everything ok.
This advice has been reviewed and reissued. The overall level of the advice has not changed. Summary We advise you to exercise caution and monitor developments that might affect your safety in Malaysia because of the risk of terrorist attack. Pay close attention to your personal security and monitor the media for information about possible new safety or security risks. We strongly advise you not to travel to coastal resorts and other centres on and islands and dive sites off the east coast of Sabah because of the high threat of kidnapping by terrorists. Terrorists have, in the past, kidnapped foreigners from the eastern coast of mainland Sabah, and from the islands and sea off its east coast. If you are in these areas you should consider leaving. We cannot rule out the possibility of kidnappings from other coastal areas of Sabah, including urban centres, and islands off the coast. If you are intending to travel overland from Malaysia to Thailand you should be aware of the travel advice for Thailand which recommends that travellers reconsider their need to travel at this time to the far southern Thai provinces of Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat and Songkhla, including overland travel from and to the Malaysian border through these provinces. |

| Kuching | Any advice would be appreciated Posted: Wed January 18, 2006 08:05 AM UTC
We are going to Kuching and Kota Kinabalu in June spending 6 nights in Kuching at the Holiday Inn Damai beach and 7 nights in Kota Kinabalu at the Shangri La Rasa. We have booked from our end the Mengkabong Water Village Tour and the Sepilok orang utan centre. Not liking packaged tours does anyone have any ideas of how to get around and the best places to see. We are not into diving and neither of us are drinkers.(alcoholic). Also how much spending money would we need for 2 adults. We would have Australian Dollars. Any advice would be great.

| Kuching | Saberkas Marathon & Petra Jaya Posted: Thu January 5, 2006 07:18 AM UTC
Dear all,
Hi! I’m from Bandar Sunway, Selangor and I have registered myself for the Saberkas Marathon this coming March 26, 2006 and I am looking forward for a short holiday and a memorable run in Kuching. The event will start at Bangunan Baitul Makmur (previously known as Bangunan MASJA), Petra Jaya, Kuching. Here are some questions for the forum. The official website doesn’t help much. 1) Are there any hotels nearby the Start point? Preferably walking distance to avoid the hassle of arranging transport early in the morning. 2) If no hotel nearby, I guess the next best solution is to stay in Kuching city. Any suggestion for hotel? Prefer budget hotel – less than RM100 per night and nearby tourist attraction. 3) How much does a taxi trip cost from Kuching airport to Petra Jaya and Kuching to Petra Jaya? 4) How is the bus service to Petra Jaya? Where can I get info on bus schedule? 5) Any cat city member running this marathon? Perhaps we could meet up for teh tarik or carboloading before the run etc. Thank you in advance for your answers. |

| Kuching | boat hire available? Posted: Tue December 27, 2005 10:24 AM UTC
Hi, I actually live in Kuching and have done for awhile (nearly 2 years) but darned if I know where to hire a boat?
I'm thinkuing of buying a little boat but before doing so would like to hire one and see what I think of cruising the rivers round here. Don't want to splash out then find I don't like it or get 'river-sick!' Have spent hours searching online (yeah, streamyx.. stream? More like a dribble) and aside from numerous mentions of the sampans to cross the river, cannot find anything? Just want a little river boat of some sort. W. |

| Kuching | Budget hotels Posted: Fri July 1, 2005 04:26 AM UTC
Hi,
Does anyone know what type of clientele these budget hotels have? 1) B & B Inn 1st Floor, 30-I, Tabuan Road, 93100 Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia Rates: RM 15 (Dorm bed) RM 23 (Single) RM 31 (Double) RM 29-39 (a/c) 2) Marlin Inn Rates: RM 46-60 Convenient for Sunday Market. 571-3 Jalan Nanas, 93400 Kuching 3) Orchid Inn Rates: RM 35-45 Located at the heart of the city center. Food is easily accessible. 2, Jalan Green Hill, Kuching Sarawak, Malaysia The room rates look cheap which is what I want but I don't fancy staying at a place where they cater to migrant workers. Hostels that house mostly travellers, local or international, are usually a good place to connect with fellow travellers who decide to explore a place on their own. Any comments will be much appreciated. Thanks. |

| Kuching | Organic Food Stores Posted: Thu January 13, 2005 02:52 AM UTC
I'm staying in Kuching for about a month and need to know where I can shop for organic produce, etc. Due to allergies, I cannot eat wheat or gluten, sugar or flour in my food. Here in the U.S., we have a great chain of organic grocery stores by the name of Whole Foods, Inc. Hoping there is something similar in Kuching so I can prepare most of my own food. Any ideas?
Thanks! yoginiteresa |
