Delaware Recipe Search
Posted: Tue July 8, 2008 03:19 AM UTC
We recently spent some time in Rehoboth Beach Delaware and ate at a seafood restaurant called "Jakes Seafood House". Their seafood bisque is too die for. Does anyone have their exact recipe?

Thanks

Just wondering what it is like to live in Bethany Beach year round. Does it feel like a town or does it feel deserted when the tourists leave?

I read that there were surfing restrictions during the summer. Is this also true for boogie boarding?

Delaware The Release Your Inner Hillbilly VT Meeting!
Posted: Tue September 25, 2007 12:27 AM UTC
With so much talk about VT meetings around here, I thought I'd announce a new one. I've not been to this event, but watching pumpkins fly through the air with the greatest of ease, and the hanging around in a cornfield in early winter, drinking beer, building fires, and wearing plaid is oddly compelling to me. How about you?

******

On November 3, come to Bridgeville, Delaware, to watch the Pumpkin Chunkin' contest. Bridgeville is sort of in the middle of nowhere, so about two hours—or less—from many of the Mid-Atlantic's somewhere spots: Baltimore, DC, and Philadelphia.

We'll meet at that fabulous Jimmy's Grille in Bridgeville, probably around noon. Better fried chicken, biscuits, and pies you'd be hard pressed to find, and then we'll carpool to the Pumpkin Chunkin' field.

Cost is $7 per person, and $2 per car for parking.

We can (and should) bring food and beverages, including beer, wine, whatever; folding chairs and blankets are helpful, too.

If anyone wants to travel in for this major fest, we'll have drinks and dinner in Baltimore the night before.

This link should explain all: http://www.punkinchunkin.com/main.htm

And, specifics will follow.

C'mon, it's time to release your inner hillbilly!

Delaware Camping and Rafting
Posted: Fri May 25, 2007 04:52 PM UTC
I'm hoping one of you locals can help me out here. I'm looking for a place to go camping that's not withing camp grounds, but legal or a campground that you can hike to find your own spot along the river. Every place I call or see onling provides a fire ring and a location that they choose for you. I really love to camp and don't want much help or people around. Is this possible?

I'm also looking for the best area for white water.

Thanks for your help!

Lewes relocating to Lewes or Rehoboth
Posted: Mon September 4, 2006 08:14 PM UTC
I am a divorced mother of 2 grown children and I'm thinking of moving to Sussex County, Del preferably Lewes or Rehoboth Beach area. Presently I reside in Northern NJ and work as a teacher at a public high school. I'm wondering how affordable a 4 bedroom/2 - 3 baths house would be? Two friends of mine are considering relocating also because Delaware seems more affordable and we love the beaches in Del. How is the job market in Sussex County? Which town in Sussex has the better middle and high schools? One of my friends will be transferring her children to the Delaware school system. Is Lewes racially diverse? Are there good private schools if the public schools are not adequate? Also what area is nice for 3 women with 2 kids (middle & high school) that would be convenient to the beach area? We would prefer a house but would consider a condo. One of the kids also wants to attend the University of Delaware in 2008 so we would qualify for instate tuition. I've only vacationed in the area twice but all of us loved the area and it seems more affordable than Bergen County. Please tell me all you know about Lewes and neighboring towns. I'm planning to relocate in April 2007. Thanks

Delaware Advice on some good apartments in Wilmington
Posted: Wed August 30, 2006 08:48 PM UTC
Hey
I am moving to wilmington next month and wanted to know names of some good apartments. I checked out the ratings of some of these apartments here:

http://www.apartmentratings.com/rate?a=vccbc&...

And most of them have bad ratings/reviews. After reading some of the reviews, I cant even think of moving in there. Any recommendations from ppl living in wilmington. Anything below 1000$/month is good for me.

I like something close to the office. My office is located in downtown (CHase bank). Even something in the range of 10-15 mins drive is good enough.

Thanks for your advice

Delaware Short Trip
Posted: Fri June 30, 2006 11:36 PM UTC
I will be in Wilmington in September for a quick trip.
Can anyone tell me about places to shop in or around there?
Are there malls?
Are there any outlet stores I should check out?
Where would be a good place to eat?
Is there "Top Attractions" that people would recomend to see while in or around Wilmington?
Also, we will be taking a day trip to New York.
Can anyone tell me of the name of the bus line(?) that would get us from Wilmington to New York?
How long is the trip?
Thanks so much for any info!

Delaware Bethany or Fenwick?
Posted: Thu April 13, 2006 11:14 PM UTC
Hi there--I'm planning a beach vacation in September with my family. We've never been to Bethany or Fenwick and we're wondering where we should try to find a house. My son will be two years old by then. My parents and brother will come as well. We'd love somewhere right by the beach where we could also walk to restaurants, shops, etc. My son is very active and loves to see new places and people. Any suggestions of areas, streets, rental agencies, etc would be appreciated. Fenwick sounds really nice but a rental agent told my mom she thought Bethany would be better because Fenwick is so small. What is Fenwick like and how do the two compare? Thanks for any insights!

Dewey Beach Where to stay?
Posted: Thu April 13, 2006 06:53 PM UTC
I'm looking for a house in Dewey Beach for 8-10 people at the end of July/beginning of August. Do I need to worry about neighbors complaining about us being too loud? Are there certain areas where mostly people just out of college tend to stay, and are there quieter areas that I should avoid? Any suggestions would be great, I've never been to Dewey before. Thanks.

Wilmington Thinking about moving to Wilmington Area
Posted: Thu March 2, 2006 01:38 PM UTC
My husband and I are thinking about relocating to the Wilmington, De area. We currently live in Buffalo, NY and there are very few opportunities careerwise in this dying city. We like the smalltown feel though. We also like Wilmington's proxiimity to 3 major cities. However, we know nothing about the neighborhoods. By the time we move we will have 2 small boys and are looking for a home in the suburbs. We are not sure what neighborhoods are the best or what the school system is really like. We are looking to spend about 150K - 175K on a home, but we're not really sure what that is going to get us. Is this a reasonable price or will we end up with a shack? Any info on neighborhoods would be greatly appreciated. We currently come from a predominately white middle class neighborhood, but that is not to say we wouldn't appreciate more ethnicity. Any thoughts?

Delaware Newcastle v. Kent/Sussex for Fun/Classy Sr. Lady--Help!!!
Posted: Fri February 17, 2006 12:58 PM UTC
I'm in my early 60's but still working and having fun, keep myself up and would like to have a good life with what's left. Have done tons of homework on taxes and property values, so my question is: where would you live if you were me? I like to be busy; would love to meet an upscale, educated gent (preferably Caucasian); want to feel safe where I live; may go back to university for Masters; need train/plane to NYC; and love eating at a wide variety of ethnic and different places.
Is it worth paying 1.30% tax rate in Newcastle? Or should I stay around Kent county where it is .77%?
Any suggestions are so very appreciated.
By the way, Hockessin is showing up on alot of Sr. boards as a great place. Anyone know what a nice 2 BR home/condo/townhouse would be there?
Any why can I not find any LOFTS in Newark or anywhere in Delaware? What gives with a State this old and developed?
Any information would help tremedously!
