I have just heard from a friend who got back that the Jellyfish and seaweed were terrible. Is this true? We are headed to Fort Morgan the first week of August for our first trip to the beach and don't want the kids getting stung. Also any suggestions of things to do and see.
Things to do? Posted: Fri February 13, 2009 03:03 PM UTC
Hi,
We are planning a family reunion- grandparents, children , grandchildren( all 9 years and under). Is there enough on the island to keep everyone busy? Ae there shops, restaurants within walking disatance?
Our family is headed to Gulf Shores this summer for our first beach vacation. As a child, I remember crabbing on our trips to Florida, taking the crabs back to the condo and having a wonderful meal. Is there anywhere to do this in Gulf Shores?
Tell me why? Posted: Wed August 27, 2008 10:34 PM UTC
I'm a mid-west person(St.Louis Mo.)who had planned on visiting Satellite Beach Florida again where my sister-i- law owns a condo right on the beach.Have been there several times which I guess makes it an easy destination since I know where everything(stores, restaurants etc).
This time a larger group of people that usual will be going which means driving instead of flying.Since it's approximately an 18hr. drive to Florida I stared looking for somewhere closer that we could go to relax and enjoy the beach with the kids.
Not being familiar with the gulf coast area which is a seven hour shorter drive to the beach.I checked out the more popular areas Gulfport etc. When I ran accross Dauphin Island Alabama.Would someone familiar with the area please tell me I'm not dreaming!Affordable housing on a beautiful white sand beach!!Is it too good to be true or is a best kept secret?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.Thank You
I know there is a ferry from Mobile to Dauphin Island, but I'm looking for a little longer trip. Does anyone know of any ferry along the gulf coast that will ferry you to Mexico or something similar? I'm just looking to go on some type adventure, so any suggestions are welcome :)
We are travelling from Florida to Williamsburg,VA where we will be staying from 06-15-08 until 06-22-08. We will take day trips to DC and Philadelphia,PA during our stay.
Please suggest MUST SEE attractions for these locations. We plan to visit the obvious places, i.e. Smithsonian, Library of Congress, the Mint, Elfreth's Alley Museum(?),Mt Vernon(?).
Shelling??? Posted: Thu March 20, 2008 09:28 PM UTC
We are considering spending a week this summer in Gulf Shores and was wanting to know the quality of shelling in the area. We normally go to Marco Island Fl where the shelling is excellent. Any input???
We're on our way to Gulf Shores for spring break with our two gradeschool boys. What's the weather like in mid-March? Will it be warm enough to swim? (I'm up in Iowa shivering in the snow and it's hard to imagine being on a beach right now.) Also, what's going on there in the next few weeks? What should we be sure to do, where should we be sure to eat? We're very interested in good local food. How's the zoo? Any other travel advice would be appreciated--we want to be sure to get the most out of our visit (which will of course include plenty of beach time).
My Friends have already reserved a campsite in the Reserved Family Camping Section C..which came with two parking passes..We need one more...I am willing to pay for one..If someone had an extra one they were not using....Thanks
Watumpka?? Posted: Wed February 27, 2008 11:09 PM UTC
Just wondering if Watumpka is worth a look. When I heard it is in a meteor crater, I thought WOW, but there aren't many photos of it. I watched Big Fish recently, but it didn't give much of a feel for the place either.
We are driving between Montgomery and Auburn here in a couple weeks, looking for interesting backroads places to explore, so is Watumpka worth a detour?? Cheers!
Where are some places to play shuffleboard in southeastern Alabama? Are there any?
My mom passed away 2 weeks ago and my dad loves to play shuffleboard, I thought it might be good for him to start playing the game he loves so much, again.
I will start my undergraduate studies at UNA (University of Northern Alabama) in early January. I will arrive earlier, after Christmas and I just need to stay someplaces for a temporary before staying at the Hostel.
Please suggest me where is the cheap /safe place. Thanks.
Just arrived in Mobile on a, well spur of the moment type of getaway. The downteown area is beautiful, but I'm wondering how I can get myself and my friend on a ship down here. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I will be staying at the Shoals Marriott over July 4th with my family and have a few questions. I know there are fireworks at McArthur Park that evening; do you think we will be able to see them from the hotel. Yahoo Map says driving it is 4 miles but I think as the crow flies it is more like 3 miles. Also we are planning to do the Helen Keller Play on Friday night. Should we do reserve seating or not? Also we are considering doing the Frank Lloyd Wright House on Saturday as we are leaving town to head back to Nashville. What do you think about our plans? Any advise for us. If we end up eating out in town where should we go? Grandma will be with us to babysit so it will be two couples for a fun night out.
I am considering going to New Orleans in July, so therefore will be passing through Birmingham on the way. Can anyone recommend a hotel/motel that is right off the interstate that is fairly inexpensive or perhaps recommend another town that I might could get an inexpensive hotel that is around the Birmingham area. I am traveling from Lexington, KY to New Orleans.
Any advice is appreaciated. Thanks
does it open Sat? how much does the ticket cost?
is it worth it?
I visited their web site and it is really not a good site, I could not find info that I need.

We will be visiting the Gulf Shore area in May of `07. We have never been there before. I have been looking through the VRBO website and am thinking about booking a room for the two of us at "Golf Shores Surf & Racquet Club" or "Golf Shores Plantation". Does anyone have any input on these properties?
Would you recommend we stay in Gulf Shores, Fort Morgan or somewhere else? We don't really swim or sun bathe, but we want a place where we can play golf, play shuffleboard and site see. Also, what kind of weather can we expect in mid-May?
I welcome all suggestions. Thank you!!
my wife and i will be at rod stewart concert jan 19....is it safe to walk from bjcc arena to downtown hotels....or is it dangerous to be in downtown later at night?
I'm going to Moscow with my wife for a few days. I've heard/read that skinhead groups are increasing racist attacks on non-whites, especially jews and blacks, and especially as the skinheads prowl metro trains. I'm white, my wife is black caribbean -- I would never subject my wife to any racial hurt or fear. Do we still travel?
We will be driving from Montgomery to Panama City Beach on 10/10/2006. Which is the better route, US231 or US331? I have traveled US231 from Dothan to Montogomery, but have not ever used US331. 331 seems to be shorter but what type of road conditions? Also, can anyony recommend some good BBQ in Montgomery near the I65 - US80 intersection? Thanks.
Honeymoon Posted: Wed August 23, 2006 02:44 AM UTC
My fiance and I are getting married September 30, 2006. He is a huge nascar and for part of our honeymoon, we are going to Talladega Superspeedway for the truck race on 10/7/06 and the cup race on 10/8/06... Since we are already gonna be in AL, we are talking about heading down to Gulf Shores / Mobile. My question is to how everything has been rebuilt since Hurricane Katrina... Are there still things to do and is the beach nice or is it still very evident that a hurricane came through a year ago? Also, if you could give advice as to what might be good tourist attractions especially for newlyweds that would be great, as well as good hotels... Thank you in advance for responding to my question... Looking forward to hearing what you have to say....
