Sogn og Fjordane Famous Rifle Marksman from Sogndal
Posted: Fri November 6, 2009 11:47 AM UTC
Greetings to all. In 2001 I visited Sogndal on the way to Balestrand and spent several hours walking around town. I noticed a statue or monument ( I cannot remember exactly which ) commemorating a famous Norwegian Rifle Marksman. I would like to learn more about this man. Can anyone tell me more about this, name picture etc. Thanks

Flåm From Copenhagen to Flam...
Posted: Sun July 27, 2008 10:15 AM UTC
Hii there

We need some assistance here on visiting Flam. Our 1st time to northern Europe!!

We will be coming from Copenhagen to Flam....

1.In order for us to get to Flam, we have to go to Oslo first right? From Copenhagen to Oslo via overnight train or overnight ferry or via overnight bus. Which is a better option in terms of cost, etcc? How long would journey be?
2.After we reach Oslo, how do we get to Flam?
3.In Flam, any recommended accomodation. Our budget is NOK1000 per nite for twin sharing
4.What are the highlights we should not miss while in Flam. We have probably 2 full days in Flam. Flam train etcc..

BTW, how would be the weather be like in Norway in Sept.. We are from the equator thus it will be cold for us i think...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks in advance...

Regards/Christine

Sogn og Fjordane I hate cruise ships. Smaller craft going deep into Songenfjord ?
Posted: Fri July 18, 2008 05:20 AM UTC
OR Are there sleep-aboard sailboats or smaller boats that we can stay on as we travel up the coastline into various fjords? We are backpacker types and sailors so we hope to find an "UNluxury" trip.
We will be going in May 2009. Thanks!!!!

Sogn og Fjordane Bus or Train from Flam to Bergen
Posted: Thu July 3, 2008 11:20 AM UTC
Which is the better way to travel between Flam and Bergen - bus or train? I have read about the bus between Gudvangen and Voss which goes via Stalheim, takes the famous super-steep Old Stalheim Road, which is worth seeing. Would it be better to take the bus from Flam to Voss and then use the train to Bergen (this is the route that the Norway in a Nutshell trip takes?

Flåm Flam-Gudvangen or Flam-Bergen Ferry
Posted: Thu March 20, 2008 12:29 AM UTC
I will be staying in Flam in June, and then going to Bergen from there. I am trying to decide whether to take Flam-Gudvangen Ferry or Flam-Bergen Ferry. These are two choice I have:
1. Flam-Gudvangen round trip, and leave for Bergen in Flam->Bergen ferry next day.
2. Flam-Gudvangen round trip, and leave for Bergen in bus next day.
My question is Is Flam-Gudvangen route worth doing when I am anyway taking Flam->Bergen ferry next day? In other words, if I take Flam-Bergen ferry and skip Flam-Gudvangen, then will I miss something in Flam-Gudvangen route? Looking at the map, Flam->Bergen route does not cover the undredal-Gudvangen route, but I am just wondering if Flam-Gudvangen route is a MUST do for some reason. Of course, it would be great to do both, but it costs quite a lot!!

Sogn og Fjordane 3 day tour the end of April
Posted: Fri March 3, 2006 04:29 AM UTC
I see a lot of great thoughts on the Sogn og Fjordane. My wife and I plan on spending three days in the area at the end of April 2006. I will have a rental car to drive from Bergen. I am thinking of staying in Sogndal and taking day trips. I want to take the most scenic loops available that time of year. Thinking of North around Geiranger one day, Balestrand west one day and Lustrafjord the last day. Too ambitious? Slow down and concentrate in an area more? Help! Advice. Looking for beautiful fjord views and quant towns.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts and or experiences including warnings of what to avoid.

I´ve made my research and there´s a lot of round trips cruises, safaris and so on in the summer but it seems that in October there´s nothing , so i understand that we cannot travel trough the fjords in that time of the year, is that really true ????

I pass the norway in a nutshell it´s too expensive....
