My friend & I plan to go for 2D1N trip to Batam from Johore this weekend.

Wish to know if anyone can suggest me;

(1) Clean, safe budget hotel to stay in central town?
(2) Best place/town to stay i.e. nightlife, shopping centres, restaurants?
(3) Instead shopping, is there any interesting places to visit?
(4) How much to charter taxi for 1 day round trip?

I am planning to visit batam and shortlisted harris view resort as my accommodation. However, I am not sure if this resort provides free shuttle bus service to town areas such as Nagoya. What's the travelling time and cost if I were to take a taxi? Anyone can advise?

planning to send my maid back to pontianak via batam. Would like to find out how to get from Batam centre ferry terminal to hang nadim airport? She's illiterate (can't read english or indo), is taxi the best option for her? how far is it by car? are the taxis safe there? thanks much!

Thanks for all the great info.. greatly enjoyed reading some of the posts and viewing the photo's. I've never visited Batam, but now I have an opportunity and plan to hop over from Singapore with the ferry just for one day to see what's it's like and do some shopping.

Since I'll be there just for one day, I'll be too lazy to walk long distances or hop in a taxi for some shopping. Therefore my question - are there any nice hotels (4 star preferably, 3 star ok too) that are adjacent or next to a shopping mall. Which ones are they..? If there are any which shopping mall are neighboring?

Passing through Singapore (arriving very early in the morning and leaves at 8:30 PM). Heard that massage and shopping are very inexpensive in Batam. Are there any massage parlors open in the morning. I need to leave Batam atleast at 3 PM (Batam time) to catch the night flight out of Singapore.

Just wondering, how far is the Batam airport from the ferry terminals. How much do you think will be the taxi fare? Will it cause a whole in the pocket of the budget traveller?

This would eliminate the entire circus of negotiating a fare each time you need to go somewhere. Also thinking of exploring the outer Barelang islands. Thanks in advance.

I am looking at visiting Batam island from Singapore this june.
I am looking at staying at the Holiday Inn Waterfront city or the Harris resort.
It will be my first trip and I intend to visit the vietnmaese refugee camp where my husband was stationed for 3 years back in tghe 80's.
What is there in waterfront city in the way of shops and restaurants?
I have chosen this area as the resorts look lovely and I love a good swimming pool, but I also don't want to feel isolated or trapped in a resort.
Are there any other hotels close to Batam Center or large shoping centers that I should consider?
I will be flying to Jakarta with Air Asia and need to get to the airport.Is this easily done? how much will I expect to pay in a taxi and how long should it take.
Sorry I have so many questions but it is difficult to find information regarding Batam island and as I am travelling alone I like to know what to expect before I arrive (armed with information!)

hi there ...we plan to go to batam on 1st february and check out on the 3rd...we are golfer from kuala lumpur and we being to batam last year.we stayed at puri garden and NOvotel before but this time we would like to stay at merlion or island garden as easy for us to go to golf course and town.my question is ,the hotel reception suggest us to buy the hotel voucer which cheaper than the publish rate.where can we buy the voucer?any rental van we can hire for bringing us back and forth from the hotel to the course.i lost my contact down there..
