Hi,
Please forgive me in advance for being very naļve about your country. I am considering going on a tour in July that goes through Bosnia, Serbia, Montenegro, and Albania. I dont now anyone who has been to those countries.
I dont know much about those countries, but I am very interested in learning and embracing the cultures.
Will I need a Visa visiting those countries only for a few days?
Are tourists safe in those countries or is there still polictical unrest?
Are people pretty easy to get along with?
Is the water pretty safe to drink or will I need to drink from bottled water?
What is the weather like?
If you had a choice, would you visit those countries
or
would you visit Iceland instead???
Again, I am so sorry for being ignorant about the countries
but I cant think of a better way of finding out without asking.
Thanks,
Matt

Hello Everybody,
Where can we find reliable information about train travel in Albania, such as departure times and journey times. Unfortunately Albania is not covered on the www.bahn.de webpage.
We are especially interested in the timetables between Tirana and Durres, as well as between Tirana/Durres to Pogradec.
Also if by chance anybody knows how we can proceed from Pogradec to Lake Ohrid in Macedonia (e.g. the city of Ohrid).
Thanks for your help,
HORSCHECK

I have been several times in Albania and I know that road conditions range from excellent to mean. I plan to drive in May from Berat to Korcė, through Kėlcirė, Pėrmet and Erseke. This is not a main road. I suppose it is narrow and winding but wonder about the surface. Has anybody driven recently this route ? How long should it take for the journey ?

Hello,
Looking for some advice. We'll be in Albania for about 2 weeks. We're thinking of renting a car for about 10 days to allow us to drive from Tirana, down the coast to Butrint, then over the road from Gjirokaster to Korce before returning to Tirana.
I have heard horror stories about driving, so we're a little cautious about that. However, we really like the flexibility the car would offer, especially when driving between Vlora and Saranda. That way we can stop at the little beaches on the way.
I'm curious to hear anyone's opinion who has been in the area recently. Other option that would be nice is if it is possible to hire a taxi for the day at a reasonable price to drive us around and to stop wherever we want.
Also, is the road from Gjiro-Korce generally snow-free by early May?
Thanks...

I'm coming to Tirana in December for a whole week, but I have one weekend completely free. I do not want to travel far, but would like to see something interesting, not just the city. I like countrysides, landscapes, parks,... Maybe some village? Anything worth seeing.
Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks for the help!

Hello Everybody,
In September we have spent a few days in Shkoder. As I am currently trying to build a Shkoder page here on VT, I am doing some research on teh sights which doesn't seem to be as easy as expected.
The large and most popular Mosque in the city centre seems to be the Al-Zamil Mosque (Ebu-Bekr Mosque) at the street Rr. 13 Dhjetori. I found some info about this mosque on the internet.
But there is a second large mosque in the city centre at the square Sheshi Parruce. I must admit that I can't find any information about this mosque. It looks like it is even newer than the Al-Zamil Mosque.
Does anyone have any reliable info about this mosque?
Thanks a lot for your help

Hello,
I will be arriving in two weeks in Tirana but my plane lands at midnight. Buses seem no longer to ride after 6 or 7 PM.
I am on a tight budget and don't want to waste time by going by taxi to the expensive airport hotels. Of the cheaper hotels in the centre, I don't find mailaddresses so I don't know whether I will be able to arrive there in the middle of the night.
By the way, I don't want luxury but quiet so a dorm is no option for me.
Same problem with Kruja: don't find any hotel with mail to ask them if they still would open up for me at night.
Third option : does the airport stay open at night ? That way, I could take the first train or bus in the morning to any place in Albania (don't need much sleep)
Thanks for the answers

Hi everyone.
Am thinking of travelling to Dubrovnik for a few days and then on to Sarandar, in Albania, a few days there and then the ferry to Corfu.
Any help on routes, safety issues, timings, prices, etc., would be gratefully received.
Many thanks

Greetings,
In the final stages of my Balkan Odisee, I am planning a trip to Corfu from Ohrid, and I am wondering if I should go via Bitola and then crossing into Greece, or via Struga and then through Albania (Elbasan, Vlore, Saranda). The distance is about the same, but, much as I like to see the part of Albania where I haven't been before (on the other hand, I have traveled through that part of Greece previously), I bet the quality of the Greek roads is much better, and the driving is safer. I have made a trip recently from Prizren to Tirane and then on to Shkodre and Ulcinj, and the experience was mixed. One important thing: my car would be fully packed, and I would be traveling alone. After Corfu, I am to make some more 5,000 km up north to my final destination.
Any suggestions/thoughts?
Thanks in advance!

A Japanese plans to move from Tirana to Sarajevo in a day in August.
At Podgorica, a bus of 13:35 is the connection.
Does anyone know the regular bus timetable from Tirana to Shkodra,
which leaves at the Tirana train station?
Or should a minibus be taken, which leaves at Zogu I Zi in Tirana?
Some site wrote that a minibus runs to Hani i Hotit and other site
wrote that a minibus runs to Tuzi, Montenegro.
Does anyone know these minibuses?
If a taxi is taken, how much does it cost from Shkodra to Podgorica?

Hello all,
am planning to be in Albania in August and from there I would like to go to Montenegro and Croatia. I was wondering which would be the best option to travel from Tirana to Podgorica. From what I read in this forum I could split it into parts Tirana-Shkoder by minibus and from Shkoder to Podgorica. Actually I don't know how to organise the latest: Shkoder-Podgorica as it seems there is no bus service between these cities. Any hint?
Thank you all

Could someone recommend me some safe place to leave my car? We're planning to spend half a day in Tirana, and would like to leave the car somewhere safe, and as close to city center as possible.
Is there some shoping mall where I could leave it, or some safer parking spot?
Thank you.

Greetings,
This summer, I am planning to spend 5-7 days in Albania traveling there by my own car. The questions:
1) Could someone recommend a reliable site offering budget hotels in Tirana, Saranda, Durres, etc? There are no entries for Albania on booking.com, which I usually use whereever I go. I would need hotels with secure parking for my car.
2) Is there ferry crossing between Corfu in Greece and Saranda, and if yes, how long would it take, and how much would I pay for crossing with a car? Is there some website with schedules, etc.?
Many thanks in advance!

Hi,
I'm coming to Albania with a friend next week.
We are getting the ferry from Corfu and will only have about 5 days in Southern Albania (unfortunately no more than that). During this time we would like to do a couple of days' hiking if possible.
I've seen that there is hiking in Llogora and also near Berat. As we're restricted for time we may only be able to do one of these - has anyone done hiking in Southern Albania and can give us some tips?
Thanks!
Dan

Hello,
i would like to ask, if there is a paid car park, where is possible to leave a car for a week or so. Or is it safe to park it just on the street? Either Tirana or it can be any other town.
If i go to Albania by bus from Croatia, is there any schedule how to get from Ulcinj to Albania or i must really hire taxi to cross the border?
Thank you for the answers

We are considering visiting Albania for the first time. We have travelled around this country for years but now feel it may be time to see it. I guess I have to ask- Is it safe for independent travellers and what would you suggest for us to see and where to go in a 7 day visit? We would be using a rental car. We prefer rural settings to overcrowded cities.
