Albania Vt Meeting In Albania 29.6-11.7?
Posted: Sat June 13, 2009 06:38 PM UTC
Hi!

We will be in Albania during that time and it would be fun to meet VT travellers living there. Or some other travellers same time in same place!

It would be great
if some locals would be interested to come and meet us and maybe show us around Tirana/other city that we will be visiting.

And of course we will welcome you to visit us in Finland!

(We are not excepting accommodation etc.
Just wanna meet locals and go to eat or something like that)

Post here if you are interested!

Albania Car rental in Albania? And getting around the coast line?
Posted: Mon June 1, 2009 05:59 PM UTC
Hello!

We are planning our trip to Albania. We will stay in Tirana for two or three days and then we want to see more!

We are planning trip from Tirana to Vlora and maybe as far as Sarande.

Do you recommend hiring a car (or is that even possible..), we have drived in Romania, Italy, States etc.

My second question is that is it easy to find buses to Vlora and again next bus along the coast line? (Still remembering our frustrating trip in countryside of Romania and those bus routes that never took place..)

We would be very-very happy for help in this matter!

Shkoder Transport from Prizren to Shkoder
Posted: Sat May 23, 2009 03:52 PM UTC
I posted this question in the Prizren forum, but decided to repeat it here in the Shkoder forum:

I will be in Macedonia with my son about two weeks from now. From Skopje we are planning to take a bus to Prizren. From Pirizren we want to continue to Kukes and Shkodra. Are there busses we could take, or would we have to take a taxi or hire a car with a driver? Are Prizren taxis allowed to take passengers to Kukes, or would we have to take one taxi to the border and another from the border to Kukes? I would be very happy if a fellow traveller or someone living in the region can help me with information about this. Thank you!

Albania Lake Komani
Posted: Wed May 20, 2009 07:45 PM UTC
Hi there, wonder if anyone can help. We live in Macedonia in Ohrid and want to go to Lake Komani. We have our own car and understand that you can take this on the ferry. We are happy to travel to Shkrodra to do this but wonder if there is any other way. Maybe we could go from Debar in Macedonia across and then take the ferry ending up in Shkrodra.

Any suggestions welcome!!

Albania Albania/Macedonia travel Part 2 - bus travel details
Posted: Sun May 10, 2009 07:58 PM UTC
Hi there,

I am planning a trip to Albania and Macedonia last week and am just finalising some details.

Does anyone know what time and where the buses leave from Tirana to Struga and then from Struga to Ohrid?

Also, on the Macedonian side, from Ohrid to Mavrovo (where is the best place to stop there) and then onto Skopje?

Additionally - is it easy to get to Galicnik from Mavrovo?

Thanks,

Alex.

Albania 3 week Balkan Trip -- Sept 2009
Posted: Sun April 19, 2009 04:12 AM UTC
Hi all,

Although this posting isn't specifically about Albania, I wasn't sure where else to post it as it is a general Balkans question.

My travel buddy and I are working on planning our trip to the Balkans in September 2009. We’ll be there for about 3 weeks, starting in Sarajevo and ending in Athens. I was hoping to get some feedback on our itinerary from those of you who live or have traveled the area. I know it is pretty aggressive, but still there are a lot of places we’re not able to fit in. Does this seem reasonable:

Day 1 arrive Sarajevo (very late)
Day 2 visit Sarajevo
Day 3 visit Sarajevo/possible daytrip nearby
Day 4 AM Train to Mostar, overnight Mostar
Day 5 Bus to Split, overnight Split
Day 6 Afternoon ferry to Korcula, overnight Korcula
Day 7 Korcula
Day 8 AM bus or ferry to Dubrovnik, overnight Dubrovnik
Day 9 AM bus to Kotor, overnight Kotor
Day 10 visit Kotor area
Day 11 Minibus/taxi to Shkodra, overnight Shkodra
Day 12 early AM minibus/bus to Berat (via Tirana), overnight Berat
Day 13 Minibus/bus to Tirana, overnight Tirana
Day 14 early AM bus/minibus then ferry to Bajram Curri and then bus/taxi to Gjakova, Kosovo; overnight Gjakova
Day 15 Visit Decani/Pecs; overnight Gjakova
Day 16 Visit Prizren, overnight Prizren
Day 17 Bus to Skopje (spend a few hours Pristina/Gracanica en route?), overnight Skopje
Day 18 Train to Kalambaka, overnight Kalambaka
Day 19 Visit Meteora, overnight Kalambaka
Day 20 Train/bus to Athens
Day 21 Depart Athens

We’d love to visit Ohrid and the south of Albania, but have decided that a visit to Kosovo would be more “unique”. Although southern Albania isn’t Croatia, we’ll see lots of beaches in Croatia so are comfortable with that tradeoff. I am curious to hear anyone’s thoughts – we are still in the planning stages, so changes are possible!

Thanks...

Hi,
at the 23th of April i am visiting Tirana. Can we take the bus from the airport to the center of Tirana and what is the number of the bus? Do we have to buy a ticket in the bus or somewhere else?

And we would like to go out to a nightclub or dancing. But we like to go out where all the incrowd people are going as well (no tourist places!) Can anybody help me out. I checked some places like Charl's bistro, pravda lounge and the living room, but i guess that is just for tourists and rich Albanian people?
We like to meet some people from Tirana and not tourists..

Albania Albania/Macedonia travel
Posted: Wed April 1, 2009 12:38 PM UTC
I am spending seven days in Albania and Macedonia in May, travelling from Tirana to Skopje. Am planning on a couple of days in Tirana, before hitting the road to Lake Ohrid, where I will be based for a couple more days and then making my way up to Skopje, possibly via the Mavrovo National Park for a day or two.

What would you recommend as the best sights/things to do in that timeframe? Any good hostels/hotels/restaurants/bars to stop off at along the way.

Also, what is the best form of transport, when does it run and how far/long does it take to get between these places?

Hello everybody! This is the first time i use virtualtourist.com, so i wish there is somebody to give me the advice i need. What I'm up to is a trip from Larissa,Greece to Dubrovnik,Croatia. I have found most bus links, but not yet anything referring to the route between Shkoder,Albania and Podgoritsa,Montenegro. Does anyone know something about this? And secondly, I think there are regular bus routes from Podgoritsa to Hergec Novi or Dubrovnik, but i haven't find some schedule in the net.

Shkoder Bus or taxi from Ulcinj to Shkoder
Posted: Thu March 19, 2009 08:46 PM UTC
Hi,
Looking for any info on the buses from Ulcinj in Montenegro to Shkoder in Albania. Been looking for up to date timetables and can't find any. Anybody have info on times and where to get the bus from? Do the buses go all the way to Shkoder or do I have to change buses at the border?

What would a taxi cost all the way to Shkoder?
Thanks

Albania Albanian Recommendations
Posted: Wed November 19, 2008 03:53 PM UTC
My sister and I are planning to cross into Albania in a couple of days. We will be entering through the port that connects with Corfu, Greece. Any specific recommendations on places to stay or things to see? We will probably be spending our time south of Tirana. Albania still seems a rather unfrequented country, and any tips would be appreciated, specifically on cheaper accomodation.
We also hope to take the bus out of Tirana to Thessiloniki. Does anyone know an approximate timetable and cost? Does it leave from the central bus station?
Thanks in advance.

Tirana Travel from Tirana to Sarander

I am currently planning a trip to Albania and would like to visit Sarander so we can catch the ferry to Corfu. Does anyone know of an alternative way of getting from Tirana to Sarander, that does not involve travelling by bus? Are there taxi transfers or private companies that offer this service? Thanks!

Tirana Tirana wedding prep
Posted: Sun September 14, 2008 12:20 AM UTC
I will soon be attending a wedding in Tirana. Are there any traditions I should be aware of (colors to avoid wearing, gifts to give or avoid giving, etc.)? What do people typically wear to a formal wedding in Albania? Do you have any recommendations for thank you gifts to bring with me? Anything else I should know before going? Thanks!

Grece information for traveling in or from Greece
Posted: Fri September 12, 2008 02:15 PM UTC
Dear all,

This is not a question, so I do not expect any reply on that.

Simply, just to tell you that there is a general strike (protest) of Greek custom officers. So in the next 24 hours it is impossible to go in or out of Greece by vehicle, except through Bulgaria. Trough Bulgaria is possible because both countries are members of EU and there is no necessity for custom checking, and only police officers are in charge for the passengers. Thanks god that police is not on strike as well.
