Kirkenes Russian border

When you drive down from Kirkenes to the point where Russia, Finland and Norway meet, perhaps 150 kilometers, how close do you get to this point. How far do you still have to walk, in km or hours? We plan a visit in September.

Nordkapp Travel to Knivskjellodden
Posted: Sun December 30, 2007 01:11 PM UTC
Hi,

I will be traveling to Norway at the end of June and want to hike to the most northern point if Knivskjellodden. My question is what's the best way to get there from Bergen?

1) Should we fly to Hammerfest and then take a ferry to Honningsvåg?
2) Should we fly to Honningsvåg directly?
3) Once in Honningsvåg or anywhere else on the north cape, how do we actually get to the trailhead?
4) If by bus, is there a website we can access to make reservation?
5) How many days should we allow?

Thank you so much,
Eric

Kirkenes Accommodation in November
Posted: Wed September 26, 2007 09:56 PM UTC
Struggling to find any budget accommodation options in November (budget is lets say pretty limited). Just emailed the campsite in hope of a lodge but seems there fully booked...anyone know if there are any options other than the main hotels? (seen the Kirkenes Hotel, and 2 Rica Hotels so far)

Kirkenes Crossing the frontier - Russia
Posted: Thu August 9, 2007 08:14 AM UTC
I'm looking into getting a bus from Kirkenes to Murmansk - can anyone recommend a company that does this? Just did a bit of google searching but couldn't find anything.
Also - is it better to sort out visas at home (London for me) or can I just do this when I reach Kirkenes or the Russian border?

Finnmark My next travel
Posted: Fri July 20, 2007 11:35 AM UTC
The next November we travel to North of Norway, I have almost decided the itinerary from oslo to Trondheim and to Bodo , but I have some doubt with respect to Ttromso, Hammerfest and North Cape. The final intention is the North Cape, but I can´t find which bus or boat have to take, some suggestions from people living there, or have been there in winter? Thanks in advance

Finnmark trekking to North Cape
Posted: Tue April 3, 2007 07:20 PM UTC
Hi,
I'd like to go for a 7-10 day trekking in Finnmark. My initial idea is to fly to somewhere (maybe Hammerfest?) and walk to the Nordkapp (15-20 Km per day), but at the moment is only an idea... I would like to know if there is any good map or trekking guide of that area to evaluate some different routes. On the other hand, anyone know if July is a good season to walk in Finnmark? I've read that in some areas there are lots of mosquitos...

Thanks a lot!

Honningsvåg Getting to Honningsvåg in winter by car
Posted: Fri January 5, 2007 09:14 PM UTC
Hello. I want to ask how to get to Honningsvåg by car in winter? I can see that the main road E69 is closed in winter but still in Mageroya lives more than 3500 people and tourists visit Nordkapp by car and bus... how do they get there?

What that ''closed road'' really means? Is road totalli impassable and blocked or still cleaned in some extent?
How much is the fine for driving on closed road?

In information provided there was said that E69 is closed but can anybody say from where... aready from Russenes?

Thank you

Alta Alta Norway Winter Holidays
Posted: Sun September 10, 2006 04:32 PM UTC
Hi

Myself and my wife are planning to visit Alta in Feb 07. Instead of booking package tour through tour operator, we are planning to undertake outdoor winter activities like snowmobiling, raindeer & husky safaris ourselves. Can anyone give me the addresses for such activities in Alta? Are such agencies easily approachable through hotel reception?

I would also like to know, whether I should purchase Thermal gear before coming to Alta(I understand that it is very costly).

Nordkapp nordkapp:getting there .cossing the tunel by bus?
Posted: Fri August 11, 2006 05:24 PM UTC
Thanks for your useful info. my problem is that i m not driving a car. You said that a tunnel link the North-Cape-Island with the continent. do you know if there is a DIALY and FRECUENT service to cross it by bus??

Something else I would love to know is how to get the hurtigruten boat till Lofoten, if it takes more than one day and if its possible to dit everyday. And of course, how to get to the port! I dont know if u have any info about it, but everythink u can tell me is more than welcome

thanks!!

Finnmark Hurtigruten.nordkapp to lofoten,lofoten to tromso/bodo
Posted: Thu August 10, 2006 02:30 AM UTC
As many people knows, hurtigruten is a nice way of travelling in the north coas of norway. my point is that i am not able to find in its web site, http://www.hurtigruten.com, the info I really need.
I will get nordkapp from finland. Once I am there, I want to start using hurtigruten so as to visit lofoten. and from there, i may go to tromso (there are cheap flights to oslo) or bodo.
anyway, i m not able to find the timetables and prices for those 2 trips (nordkapp lofoten-for instance svolvaer-,and then lofoten tromso/bodo.)probably the problem, besides the website design, is my huge lack of knowledge with regard to the names of the ports I need to use; but I have map, I guess the names of them, and theres no way to find them in the web...

can anyone helps me, trying with that website and knowing something more about the coast? has any of you made this trip before, or can tell me more or less how many days can it take me? is it a dialy option?

thanks so much for you help!

Nordkapp How to Get Nordkapp from Rovaniemi,or Finnish Lapland
Posted: Wed August 9, 2006 02:42 AM UTC
I am planning my visit to Scandinavia, (I´m leaving on next Friday!). I will start in the south of Sweden (Sverige!), then will go to Finland, and after that, I will travel to the north, with the idea of visiting first Finnish Lapland and from there getting to NordKapp and Lofoten islands, before travelling south in the west coast.

So, to sum up, I will be in north of Finland, (probably Rovaniemi, or Kemi) when I have to get Nordkapp-taking into account that I wont have/use a car.

I would appreciate a lot any info with regard to this question; I'm also lost about accommodation in the area; actually, I`ve just discovered its not so easy to find cheap places, b&b, hostels, or just places to sleep in the area.

Thanks so much for your help!

Nordkapp Taking a bike to Nordkapp
Posted: Sat July 17, 2004 10:08 PM UTC
I'm starting to plan a cycle ride starting in May next year which should take me from Nordkapp to Sicily (or maybe Gibraltar; not decided yet). Can anyone give any advice on the quickest/easiest way to get from say Oslo to Nordkapp with a bike?
Due to limited time, I sadly can't afford to cycle all the way up there, but I expect I'll probably have to do at least the last bit. I have come across some information that says bikes can be taken on buses, but on the other hand I've read that about other countries as well where it's simply not true.
Any help very welcome!
