| Douglas | TT Races Posted: Sat December 22, 2007 01:45 PM UTC
I would like to travel to the Isle of Mann to see the TT races. Is there a good location to stay in Douglas which is not 5-star expensive ? Also close to good local restaurants. Any other suggestions would be helpful.

| Isle of Man | Location of Grand Island Hotel in Ramsey? Posted: Wed November 7, 2007 09:01 AM UTC
The Grand Island Hotel in Ramsey seems to be a very nice place and they offer good rates. But I wasn't able to find out much about its location. The website only gives advice how to get there by car. I'll have to rely on public transportation. How easy is it to get to the hotel by bus? Is it far from the town centre or close to any buses?
I've decided to take the ferry to the Isle of Man and from what I've read about the railway it stops running around 4pm. The ferry comes in after 5pm, so I cannot take the railway. Are there buses going up to the Grand Island Hotel, Bride Road, Ramsey in late afternoon/ early evening in summer? |

| Isle of Man | Any Motor Races in August 2008? Posted: Mon November 5, 2007 02:57 PM UTC
I'm trying to find the times for the races in summer next year. The main event sems to be in May/June, but I remember something about a second race later in the year. The official Isle of Man website seems to be stuck on October 2007, so until this is fixed I can't get any information there.
Does anybody know if there is another racing event in August 2008? I'm not interested in racing, and I would prefer to avoid it. Also, from what I've heard accomodation is more expensive then, which is another reason to avoid these dates. |

| Isle of Man | When is the best time/place to see puffins on the Isle of Man? Posted: Fri August 17, 2007 10:27 AM UTC
I would love to see puffins and I read that you can see them on the Isle of Man. Would July/August be a good time or is any other month better?
I've read the Southern part would be the best place, or the Calf of Man. Are there any guided bird watching tours? Thanks for any information. |

Please sign up - Go to Meet Members, then select Members Meetings and add your name on 05th June, Children and Adult of all ages, nationalities welcome.
Hi, As the homestay people at my house are mainly VT'ers I have decided to organise a meet at my place on Tuesday 5th June. If you want to come e-mail me and I'll send you address/contact numbers etc. Just wear whatever you want I am not at all fussy. Will start at 7.00pm (but come whenever open house style) and I may provide some nibbles. Location will be in Onchan so not far from Douglas. No cost just bring a bottle or two or beer or whatever you want to drink. Would like as many to come as possible. Feefox XXX |

| Isle of Man | Douglas B & BThat' Reasonable and Clean Posted: Mon March 5, 2007 10:39 PM UTC
Greetings:
Taking our first trip to IOM in May. Planning on spending some time in Dublin before. We were advised by a native now living in the USA, not to stay in Douglas because of congestion, etc. However, the advise here seems to be that Douglas is best because it is the transportation hub of the island. So, we need specific information on where to best to stay in Douglas at hopefully a reasonable and clean B & B or self catering accomodation. Planning on using public transport to get around. With the US dollar so low against the British pound, finding a reasonably priced place is a priority. Thanks to all for any advice. |

| Isle of Man | June trip to the island some advice please Posted: Thu March 1, 2007 09:52 PM UTC
Four of us planning a trip to the isle of man on motorbikes early June 07. One Fazer 600 and 3 classic Honda 250 Superdreams. All of us born agains but genuine bike enthusiasts. Would just like to ride the TT circuit stages and see the island.
All of us in our mid to late thirties so fond of our comforts. Can anybody advise best place to stay, any good pubs, must see places or things of interest, good bike shops etc. Is it true that there is no speed limit outside the towns? this is of particular interest to the 3 blokes on the 80's Superdreams (aptly named) Cheers Bob |

| Isle of Man | TT Accommodation required - please help!!! Posted: Sat January 6, 2007 01:26 PM UTC
I've recently been let down on accommodation promised for the 2007 TT. I'm flying in on 31 May and then out again on 9 June. I'm just looking for single accommodation with room enough for me, my cameras and a laptop. Ideally I need to be in the Douglas area as I am a writer / photographer and will be using the official media facilities - I also need to be on hand as I've got to do a couple of signing sessions! (I'm the author of one of the official centenary TT books)
If you can help or can suggest anybody to contact then please get in touch. Thanks Jon PS - I'm fully aware of the Homestay list but the entire thing is booked out |

| Isle of Man | accommodation TT 2007 Posted: Tue September 26, 2006 12:00 AM UTC
I am a mature house-trained male from Australia looking for budget accommodation for IOM TT 2007. I have already booked my flights both way and paid deposit for ferry L'pool to Douglas arrive 28 May 2007 @ 14.00 Depart 11 June 16.00.
Am in a position to reciprocate in advance or after. I live in Cairns Australia on the Great Barrier Reef. I live in a three bedroom house and have a small car that I don't use much and three motorcycles that I can't ride all at the same time. The weather here is great from May to November (August is a little windy) and there are some great bike rides available, both touring and off-road. (bikes are 78 R100RS, 85 R80G/S and 71 BSA A65L) Don Thomas |

| Isle of Man | TT2007 Accommodation Posted: Wed September 6, 2006 05:22 PM UTC
I'm looking for accommodation for myself - one single bloke, mature enough not to be a party animal any more and travelling on foot (and public transport, of course) - for the race week of the 2007 TT, preferably in Douglas. I hope to be there from 1-8 June inclusive (Friday-Friday) but ferry tickets aren't on sale yet, so that's flexible, as long as I'm there all race week.
I have already got a message up on the TT site's own accommodation board, but so have loads of other people. I'm hoping that the fact that I only need a single might work in my favour. If anybody can help, or knows of another forum tucked away somewhere that isn't as well known as the TT one (although, obviously well known enough to produce results) please leave a message here, or email me. Thank you. I really thought I'd got in early enough this year! |

| Isle of Man | Trip June 2007 Posted: Tue June 20, 2006 09:25 PM UTC
I'm going on an Ireland tour in June '07. Want to come to IOM for several days & want to maximize time. I want to go on the trains, buses to see the island--don't want to walk a lot, climb mts. Would like a seaview hotel/bb for one person. I do genealogy as a hobby and want to soak up the Manx culture, scenery.
Suggestions on lodging? Probably arr/ret Dublin--maybe air one way, boat the other? Any and all info would be appreciated. I'm NOT coming during TT. Thanks |

| Douglas | Villa Marina Posted: Fri May 12, 2006 12:57 PM UTC
Last time I was in Douglas there was talk of booting the shopowners out of the Villa Marina, and replacing them with a medical centre. That’ll be fun, won’t it? Sitting in the Doctor’s surgery feeling grim, with a Robert Plant soundcheck going on next door. Dragging yourself along the Prom in mid-Winter to go to the doctor. Joining the ticket queue, only to find it’s the queue for repeat prescriptions….
Anyway, does anybody know how far they’ve got with this daft idea? Am I still going to be able to buy my gifts & souvenirs in the Villa Marina Arcade this year, or do Pickwick’s now have the monopoly? |
