Jakarta 1st Time Visit To Jakarta
Posted: Wed August 19, 2009 10:16 AM UTC
We are family of 4 (2 adults + 2 children) planning to Jakarta arriving on 27 Nov late evening. Wish to visit Jakarta & Bandung during the 5 days stay. If anyone could advise/suggest where we should starts off ie. Jakarta then Bandung or vice versa.

On transport, we thought of getting to Bandung via bus and return by train. What would be the realiable transportation company?

For accommodation in Jakarta we may opt for Ibis Mangga Dua. In Bandung, Rumah Ebo Guesthouse. Any suggestions? We are looking for room rates not more than MYR150.00 per room/nite.

Jakarta Travel tips for Jakarta?
Posted: Thu July 30, 2009 09:30 AM UTC
Hi all,

I've read up on the many suggestions about Indonesia. Would the following places be good areas to take pictures (I am into photography) of famous landmarks in Jakarta?

a. Monas
b. Old Batavia
c. Taman Mini Indonesia
d. Central Jakarta - Welcome monument, Kathedral Jakarta

As for budget hotels, I have read on the suggestions of:

IBIS ARCADIA or IBIS TAMARIN
Twin Plaza Hotel
Novotel Mangga Dua
Sari Pacific
Mecure Resko Hayam

But which has the best location in terms of being next door to shopping malls and has easy access to public transport to get around Jakarta?

It seems there are many good hotels in Mangga Dua. How can one go from Central Jakarta to Mangga Dua? Are the modes of transport frequent to and fro?

For first timers to Jakarta, what is a good, convenient and cheap way to get around the city?

We decided to take the train from Jakarta to Yogyakarta.

Can anyone tell me how much (roughly) and the number of hours from.

Jakarta to Yogyakarta

Can anyone recommend hotels within the 40 to 50 US dollars in Jakarta?

Hope you can help on any suggestions and recommendations.

Thanks!

Jakarta Hotel Location
Posted: Sat April 25, 2009 08:14 AM UTC
Dear fellow VTers,

I'm going to Jakarta for 5 nights at of May. I have started researching and am thinking of staying at Sari Pan Pacific. A friend of mine suggested Novotel Mangga Dua.

It looks like Sari Pan is more central than Novotel but I am not sure whether I am in the right part. What do you guys think?

It is a short break for us so we are thinking of a hotel where is close to shopping centres, so at any time we can always pop back to the hotel. A hotel with nice pool would be good too as we probably would enjoy doing nothing but hang out at the pool one or two days.

Is the traffic jams really bad in Jakarta? We do not want to spend hours stuck in traffic so we prefer walking distance to several shopping centres from the hotel.

This trip is solely for shopping, relaxing, eating, massages and perhaps clubbing and maybe one day for sightseeing.

Thanks to all in advance!!

Jakarta Accommodation and What to do?
Posted: Sun March 29, 2009 12:34 PM UTC
I am flying in this Friday at 7pm to Jakarta airport. I wanted to get a connecting flight to Jogyakarta but it is not possible. I will be leaving the following day at 4pm.
Where can I stay that is a budget option? Less than $50 USD including transfers (if possible). Also I expect it is too short to do any sightseeing so I would be happy to do soome shopping for clothes/electronics,etc. Any suggestions on where to stay and what to do? Thank you.

Jakarta Jakarta - Puncak - Bandung
Posted: Fri November 28, 2008 06:53 AM UTC
My Family and I will be arriving to Jakarta from KL on 12/12/08 at night then proceed to Puncak on the 13th morning and staying a night in Puncak and move on to Bandung on the 14th and staying 2 nights thus move back on to Jakarta on the 16th till 20th. Total 9 days 8 Nights Tour.

Would appreciate if someone could advice me if my travel planning is ok? Is 1 night in Puncak is sufficient ? Is 2 nights in Bandung is sufficient or 3 nights? What would the weather condition be so then we can prepare on the clothings? For shopping purposes - what are the things that are much cheaper in Bandung then buying it in Jakarta?

Appreciate the advice.

Jakarta Where to find stone carvings, garden fountains from Bali and central Java
Posted: Mon November 10, 2008 07:23 AM UTC
Does anyone here have a tip for me? I want to buy some stone carvings, garden fountains, etc made in central Java and Bali.

But on my next trip I won't have time to visit Bali or central Java.

Are there any areas of Jakarta which specialise in stone works and other Balinese works?

And which area of Jakarta will give me the lowest prices? I suppose some of the pricey malls will have what I need, but their prices will probably match the prices I can find at online stone carving websites.

Jakarta Need advice
Posted: Thu November 6, 2008 02:09 PM UTC
Hello Everyone,
My family and I (7 of us) will be going to Jakarta on 1/12/08 to 12/12/08. My domestic helper wants to go back to her village (Serang) and my family decided to join her. We want to experience the Hari Raya Haji at her village on 8/12/08. So here's the problem.
We would love to go to Dunia Fantasy and Puncak. I am wondering whether i should i go there first then go to her house in Serang or the other way round.
I know of one budget hotel(Anugrah) that is near the airport that would fetch me from the terminal(though not sure whether it still exist). We can sleep there for the night and leave for DUFAN the next day.
I was told that the airport is far from DUFAN and mangga dua shopping area.Is that true? And after buying the new stuff where can i keep them, I can't imagine myself bringing all the new stuff that i bought to Puncak and Banten?
Pls advice
