Gibraltar Auriga Crown car rental - possible receivership??
Posted: Sun August 16, 2009 11:27 AM UTC
Does anyone know if the rumours are true that Auriga Crown car rental is presently in possible bankruptcy proceedings and may cease trading in the next few months? There is nothing on their website about this but bookings can't be made for dates after December. I use the La Linea office quite regularly for one-way rentals to Malaga or Jerez airports because the rates are very reasonable (about 52 euros for a one-way trip). Can anyone recommend an alternative in the area, Avis and Hertz are non-starters, both charging over £120 for a one-way rental. Thanks for any info.

Gibraltar To enter Gibraltar from Spain
Posted: Mon July 20, 2009 06:24 PM UTC
Hi, I'm Malaysian currently in UK. Planning to have a trip to France, then to Spain and to Gibraltar by car with few friends. Need to know if I still need to show my passport when i enter Gibraltar? As Malaysia is one of the Commonwealth Country, we Malaysian can enter any European countires without having to apply for a visa in advance. Once we got into the country, we got the "6 months visiting visa" stamped on our passport.

Since i'll start my journey from UK, will i get another stamp in Gibraltar border as well or not? Are they the same? Confused actually.

Anybody can help?
Thanks!

Gibraltar Is Gibraltar Baby Friendly
Posted: Sun June 14, 2009 10:26 AM UTC
I am looking to travel Wst week of august?
My baby will be 9months old at the time.
Is this place baby friendly?

I currently live in Dubai. I am wondering what the travel time to and fro would be? Any friendly airline recommendations?

Pls suggest places to stay with a 9 month old baby girl.

What can I cover in 5 days in Gibraltar?

Will I need to rent a car? I am hoping that is NOT ESSENTIAL.

TIA!

Gibraltar Which one is best for Gibraltar?
Posted: Tue May 19, 2009 12:29 PM UTC
As part of a month long visit to Andalucia, I will be spending 3 nights in either Cadiz or Jerez. Haven't quite decided yet...recommendation for both abound.

One of the questions is from which one is it easier to get to Algeciras/La Linea for a day trip to Gibraltar?

Gibraltar Gibraltar on foot
Posted: Wed April 15, 2009 06:15 PM UTC
Hi, we have a 1 day stop (9.00am - 4.00pm) during our cruise in Sept, is it possible to walk to all the main tourist sites, monkeys, St Michael's cave, WWII tunnels?

Also I realise it may not be possible to see as much as we would like in the time we have, so which sights would you recommend to see in one day?

Thanks Kaz Manchester UK

Gibraltar hiring a car in Gibraltar - which are the nicest areas to explore
Posted: Wed April 1, 2009 04:16 PM UTC
Hello, I plan to visit Gibraltar in the next few weeks and my husband and I were wondering if we should hire a car and explore the island. I read that hiring a car is not worthwhile doing. Is this so? We like to travel around the island and look out for picnic spots, scenic areas, national parks/forests etc. Would love to hear any recommendations of any must see places around Gibraltar.

Gibraltar VT Euromeeting 2009 and visiting Gibraltar question
Posted: Mon February 2, 2009 12:24 AM UTC
Mark and I are planning on attending the VT Euromeeting in Portugal this year. We are looking at some side trips before and after the meeting. We want to spend some time Seville and also take a one or two day trip to Gibraltar. I have been trying to find information on transportation to Gibraltar and have not found much help. Is there train service from Spain to Gibraltar or bus service? I can find some information about flights but not anything on train or bus. Any suggestions or information would be appreciated as we start planning the trip.

Gibraltar Fresh Milk in Gibraltar?
Posted: Thu December 18, 2008 08:31 AM UTC
A few questions from a new visitor in Gib:
- Is it possible to buy fresh milk in Gibraltar, and if so, where? The hotel I went to and even the restaurants all use UHT long-life milk from cartons which I really don't like.
- Are there any restaurants in Gib that don't allow smoking, or have a proper non-smoking section?
- Can you get organic food in or around Gib? e.g. organic vegetables, free range chicken and eggs etc.

Thank you!

Gibraltar New Year in Gibraltar
Posted: Sat October 11, 2008 06:09 PM UTC
Hi everyone. Going to Gibraltar for New Year's Eve and staying there until the 5th of January. Have some practical questions - maybe somebody can help. I am arriving on New Year's Eve at 11am and staying in an appartment. Am I legally allowed to pop into Spain to get a couple of bottles of champaign (OK, cava) there? Would shops/supermarkets still be open in Gibraltar? Is alcohol much more expensive than in Spain there? More important - are bars, pubs, nightclubs open on New Year's Eve? Is it easy to get there? Where do the locals celebrate? Would really appreciate any tips. Alex

Gibraltar One night or two
Posted: Mon August 25, 2008 12:51 AM UTC
For those of you experienced...

I am in the beginning stages of planning a trip to Spain.
I may decide to include a visit to Gibraltar.

Would one night be sufficient or is two better for visiting The Rock?

Taking into consideration the bus trip from Spain of course...would I be most likely to arrive in Gib in the morning or afternoon?

Gibraltar How much time do I need from Gibraltar to Malaga
Posted: Mon August 4, 2008 06:10 PM UTC
Hi everybody,

I need to return a rental car in Malaga train station on a Monday at 13:00.
My hotel is at La Linea. My plan is to buy gas in Gibraltar and drive
directly to Malaga.

How much time should I calculate to get out of Gibraltar on a Monday morning?
I thought about departure time 09:00 from La Linea.
Is this realistic?

Thank you and greetings,

Gibraltar A great birthday in Gibraltar
Posted: Sun August 3, 2008 10:29 PM UTC
Hi everybody,

I will be celebrating my best friend´s birthday in Gibraltar next week,
I hope you can give me some advice...

We will arrive Saturday night from our Spain tour,
I thought about going to Corks Wine Bar.
What are the free tapas like? Are they suitable as a light
dinner or extended starter?

Where could we go next? The places should be more British than Spanish and not overprized, maybe with good traditional music and cheap beer.
I hope custom inspection will be o.k. when we go back to La Linea after
celebrating :)

The next day we would like to do some plane spotting, what would be the best place for this? I will look at the British Airways timetable, hopefully it is accurate.

Then we will visit the apes but we want to walk, which would be the closest bus stop / nicest way for walking?

Thank you so much for your help !!

Gibraltar Cruise Passengers
Posted: Sat July 19, 2008 06:03 PM UTC
When arriving in Gibraltar from a cruise ship, is it possible to arrange a taxi or minibus tour of the rock, I am aware that tours arranged by the ship are expensive and know that local firms will be cheaper. But do they pick up people from the dock? Does anyone have a rough idea of cost, thinking of general tourist things, i.e. seeing the monkeys, cavs etc.., It will be for a party of 4 adults and 1 child

Hi everyone, I am going to be visiting Gib for one day in the next two weeks on a cruise and want to go to the beach, looking at a couple of sites I think Eastern Beach would be the best for us, but I was wondering if we go there are there any restaurants, cafes, loos or shops we can use whilst we are there or should we take some basics with us.... plus would it be easy to get a taxi back to the docks from there?

Thanks very much

Gibraltar Gibraltar to Puerto Banus.
Posted: Sun June 29, 2008 08:18 PM UTC
Hi All,

I (as part of a group) am flying in to Gibraltar in July. I have had to book Gibraltar flights to save on money as the Malaga flights were ridiculous.

I have found problems in arranging transfers from the Gibraltar region. I understand we wil lhave to cross the border by foot which is no problem. Very few companies will pick up from La Linea and those that have said they will have quoted €220 for a group of 10 and €360 for a group of 17 on the return. In past experience I have found taxis to be quite cheap.

Does anyone know how much it would cost roughly in a standard taxi to go to Puerto Banus or would anyone be able to suggest any companies that offer a transfer service. Are the taxis all 4 passenger taxis or would we be able to split the group of 10 in to two larger taxis?

Any information or tips on the above would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks in advance.

Gary Judge.

Gibraltar Fish & chips

Here's a novel question for Gibraltar! We go often to southern Spain, and then often take a short trip to Gibraltar just to stroll about and have some fish & chips. Any suggestion to where we can get the best?
