| Faroe Islands | accommodation on the faroe islands Posted: Tue January 22, 2008 10:23 PM UTC
a couple of days ago, just by accident, and absolutely unexpectantly I came across some pictures of the faroe islands - and I FELL IN LOVE IMMEDIATELY!!!
since then I have done a lot of research concerning culture, language, history, geography etc. (the wikipedia article was a good way to start. very informative and appeared to me to be very profound) I also began research on how to get there cheaply from berlin/germany. unfortunately I need to travel on very restricted budget :=(( I found out that I could fly to bergen and take the ferry to torshavn. the dates that seem most suitable for me would get me to torshavn on monday, sept. 1, very early in the morning, departure would have to be saturday sept. 6, late afternoon. my questions: is this a good time to travel to faroe islands? or would late spring (may) be better? I am looking for cheap accommodation: need a dry roof over my head, a bed would be nice, can bring my own sleeping bag, access to a bathroom and preferrably a coffee machine or else some place near to get hot coffee in the morning :=. anything else would be optional. would like to meet local people, get to know the faroyan way of life (and language) well, I know, in less than a week I will hardly get a glimps. how would I get around on the islands? could I rent a scooter or small motorbike? I am an experienced and enthusiastic horseback-rider. Is there anyway to take say day-trips on horseback on the islands? maybe even the possibility to get accommodation on a farm? (I do not mind picking up a shovel or a pitch-fork and do a good share of work) hoping for answers christina |

| Faroe Islands | Suggestions for Scotland / Faroe Islands Posted: Tue August 28, 2007 05:03 PM UTC
I will be in the UK for about a week late next May.
My wife and kids wanted to go to Scotland and I thought it would be interesting to combine this with a trip to the Faroes. Any suggestions on an itn? We need to start and end in London - Gatwick, but want to spend all the time in the north. Thanks. |

| Faroe Islands | Travel in Winter Posted: Mon May 7, 2007 09:29 PM UTC
I hope this doesn't sound too dumb, lol
1) Is it recommendable to visit the Faroe Islands in January (i.e. is that a nice time to go? I'm interested in seeing natural scenery)? 2) Is flying/going there on a boat more difficult during this time? 3) Would there be a significant price difference during this time? |

| Faroe Islands | 2 questions Posted: Tue April 24, 2007 11:31 PM UTC
Hello, I have two more questions about the Faroe Islands:
1) Has anybody been to Mykines or know what's there/ if it's worth going to? 2) Where is the best hiking in the Faroe Islands? So far I'm thinking the island of Vidoy and hiking around Enniberg and Vidareidi.. Thanks! |

| Faroe Islands | Weather in july/august? Children... Posted: Sat March 24, 2007 05:48 PM UTC
Hi everybody,
we are looking at the option of taking the Smyrnil ferry in july or august from Denmark to the Faroe Islands and then on to Iceland. What would the weather be like in those months? And how rough will the sea be on the way there? Also, any idea if the boat trip is nice for kids? as we will be travelling with 3 small children (5 yrs, 4 yrs, 1 month) Thanks in advance, |

What inexpensive accommodations do you recommend in Torshavn and other towns in the Faroe Islands? I will be there for seven days and I would like to have the name of hostels or guesthouses that are not expensive.
Thank you! |

Hi, there. I'd like to know, if anyone here has an interest in my humble village.
OK, I might as well confess, that there isn't that much to see here, since the village is extremely small. However, we do have the church, built in 1847 and the youngest of its type here. So, I'll answer any questions, that you might have. JP |

| Faroe Islands | faroe tale trip... crap joke, i know. Posted: Mon October 10, 2005 04:03 PM UTC
Hey guys!
I'm a 20 year old New Zealand guy, spending some time in the faroes this summer, probably may-ish... I want to hang out with locals, learn a wee bit of the faroese language, and hike over each island. I dont know what else goes on in the faroes, so who knows what else ill be doing! im aware that there is no public land in the faroes, so campings a bit dodgy. Is it possible to stay with locals? is hitching possible? Would any of the faroe locals on VT be interested in meeting up? cheers kyle |

| Faroe Islands | Looking for someone wanting to visit sunny Spain. Posted: Sat April 30, 2005 02:16 PM UTC
Hello
I need some help and somebody that speaks english as I do not speak the Faroe language. I am a dutchman that lives in Spain. I have a villa in Spain that looks over the Mediterranean see where the weather is nice. I also have rooms that I let to guests. I am looking for a couple that speaks english from the Faroar that would like to visit us for one or two weeks. Instead of paying for the visit, they pay us by letting us stay at your house for the a week. We would very much to see the Faroar islands but we cannot afford expensive hotels. Thats why we want to make a deal. You stay with us for a while and we stay with you. This is cheap for everyone. If there is a newspaper on the island, please send me the internet address so I can ask if they can place my add in this newspaper. We like walking very much and we are looking for a couple that wants to show us the island by making long walks. Please, please react as we are very serious. | Faroe Islands | Costs and things to do Posted: Mon April 25, 2005 12:21 PM UTC
It is just in the early stages now, but we are thinking of taking a trip to the Faroe Islands later this year of next. I have looked at flights from the UK and they run around Ł250 per person from London.
1) Does anyone know of better priced flights from the UK? Once we get there, we have no ideas of the costs. 2) What is the average cost for a hotel/flat, meals, transportation between the islands and on the islands, fishing license, etc. and would these things need to be booked in advance or could it all be done in person? 3) If we have 14 days there, what has to be seen and done? i am interested in history as well as the 'wilderness' landscape, animals, and fishing. 4) What is the best month to go in both terms of price/things to do/and fewest number of tourists? |
