I need recommendations of clean and cheap places (names with addresses and prices) to stay in Medan since I have decided against taking a taxi from the airport all the way to Samosir at night. Can anyone recommend please? It could be one in town so we could walk around at night and maybe shop? Thanks in advance.

I have read a lot about the Samosir Cottages on Samosir island and would like to stay there from March 28-31. There is no web site mentioned only phone numbers. Could anyone help to make bookings? We are three women who would like to stay in a family room or cottage facing the famous Lake Toba.

I am going for the first time to lake Toba. Can anyone advise if it is safe for 3 women arriving from Penang at 8pm, to take a taxi from the airport directly to either Parapat or Samosir island?

a friend just came back from medan and reported a lot of hassle from customs on the way out. it seems that you have to declare all the contents of your golf set when you arrive and this will be checked upon departure.never had this problems beforeas i usually declare just one set without detailing it's contents.anybody can clarify this so called new ruling.will be coming to medan this thursday beore leaving for jakarta.
