train trips from Grenoble Posted: Sun September 20, 2009 06:56 PM UTC
I am planning a 2 week visit to Grenoble in May. I want to take a 4-5 day train trip from Grenoble to see the Alps, perhaps traveling around Switzerland and down into Italy and then returning to Grenoble. Does that seem like a realistic and/or practical plan. Any tips on planning such a trip would be much appreciated.

Train travel from Grenoble to Geneva. Posted: Tue July 14, 2009 05:43 PM UTC
I am planning to visit my in-laws who live in Grenoble. I also wish to travel from Grenoble to Berlin to visit an old high school chum. I will be traveling over the Christmas/New Years holiday. I am looking to travel to Berlin on Dec. 31. Here is my question:
Will the train schedule from Grenoble to Geneva be the same on the holiday Dec 31, 2009 as a regular Thursday? Are there different "holiday" train schedules?
I am reluctant to book flights, until I am sure I can get to Geneva in time.

xmas day in grenoble Posted: Wed November 5, 2008 03:21 PM UTC
Hi there
I'm an Irish woman travelling to Grenoble for xmas. I would love if someone could tell me what xmas day is like. Is everything shut down as in Ireland? Most importantly, are there restaurants open for xmas dinner.
Have not been able to find this out on net so I really would appreciate some help on this, the more descriptive the better.
Many thanks

Visiting Grenoble Posted: Thu November 8, 2007 06:04 AM UTC
Hi All;
I'm Khamal, live in Malaysia. I work with French company here and will be in St. Martin, Grenoble (1st time, I just join this company) on 26th for work for 3 weeks. I still do have weekend for some little travel. I like photography so much and do have SLR camera that i will take with me there.
My Questions:
1. Is english can be understand by local people there?
2. Can I rent a car for weekend and how much it will cost? It is nice if you can give me the contact number.
3. How is the nightlife in Grenoble?
4. It is easy to go to beaches, southern part or to Zurich or Munich by land transport?
5. Can you advise the good places in Grenoble?
Please Advise...

Getting to La Chapelle Posted: Fri April 27, 2007 10:28 PM UTC
Hello all,
I plan to trek in the Les Ecrins and the Vanoise national parks in august.
my starting point is the town of La Chapelle (according to my map is near St. Firmin). the trek will end in Bourg St. Maurice.
After searching the net, i still have some open questions about getting in and out.
as i read, i have a couple of ways to get to La Chapelle and i need your help choosing between them.
1. The first option is flying to Lyon, take the Satobus to the city and from there the train to Grenoble.
2. The second option is flying to Geneva, take some bus (which?) to the train station and then the train to Grenoble.
which way is the fastest?(i want to get to La Chapelle in the same day)
The way from Grenoble to La Chapelle is very unclear to me. i know i have to take the bus to Gap and go down in St. Firmin and take another bus to La Chapelle. but i didn't find anywehere on the internet information regarding the bus timetables and fares. i really need your help on this one.
Thank you very much!
Moshe.

Travel from Grenoble airport to city centre Posted: Fri February 2, 2007 10:16 PM UTC
I am flying into Grenoble on the 5th of Feb at 14.10 on an Easyjet flight and must be in Grenoble city centre by 17.30. I am informed that the bus from the airport to the city leaves at 15.00 so I doubt that I will have time to pick up my luggage and catch it. Is my information correct and if so how else can I get to Grenoble on time without using a taxi for just one person?

Restaurant in centre for a Saturday night Posted: Wed January 10, 2007 09:26 AM UTC
Any suggestion for a restaurant -not Italian like all the ones clogging in the Grenoble guide- for a Saturday night? Preferably not a cheese/fondue restaurant as we'll have spent one week in Les Deux Alpes eating a lot of fondue and raclette!
Either French or couscous restaurant suggestions will be welcome.
Must be in city centre as we'll have no car and we'll be near Place Victor Hugo.
Thanks
A.

April 2007 Posted: Fri September 22, 2006 11:06 AM UTC
Hi, I am planning a trip to southern France next April which will hopefully include going along the Route Napoleon from Cannes to Grenoble. There will be myself and about 6 others on motorcycles doing this trip. My question is what are the road conditions like around Grenoble at this time of year? Are the roads clear at this time of year or are we likely to encounter snow on this route? We are planning on going the first week of April.
Thanks in advence.

Homestays? Posted: Fri June 23, 2006 06:53 PM UTC
I applied for a position teaching ESL in Grenoble and I got it! (yay!) But I now have to find my own accomodations and I'd really like to stay with a French family, if possible. (I really want to be immersed in the language when I'm not at work.) Does anyone know of a way that I can get connected with families that would be willing to take me in? I'm 23 years old and very low maintenance. :)
