My friends and I are heading over to the Ukraine in October for the World Cup Qualifying match (Ukraine v England).
We will be spending 2 nights in Dnipro. I'd appreciate any advice on:
1. Which bars are best to drink in.
2. Best nightclubs.
3. Places of interest or trips within Dnipropetrovsk especially WWII & Soviet historical interests.
4. Any places outside of Dnipropetrovsk that are worth visiting.
5. People and places to avoid.
Appreciate any advice given.
Many thanks

I found a nice selection of imports (Czech, Belgian and German) at "Beerhouse", in a new complex off Karla Marx. Very clean atmosphere but I did not try the food. They are at Kateriioslavskii boulevard, 2. Also a friendly staff.
Where is a good place (bar/pub/restaurant) to taste local beers, either on draught or in bottle? Are there any new restaurant-breweries yet, like the Shato in Kyiv? I like to tour breweries as well as taste the beers, then write articles for beer publications.

soon I'll be in Dnepr (13.-20.05.2006) for my very first trip to Ukraine.
Although I`m eagerly trying to learn a few phrases in Ukrainan and/or
Russian, I guess I will need my local "guide" (a friend) quite a lot
even for basic undertakings, because of the different alphabet & language.
However, my friend won't be able to be with me for 2 days around the 17th.
So - what activities are "simple" enough for a newbie Dnepr-tourist
like me without real language-capabilities? My travel-guides (Bradt etc.)
are not very useful with info on Dnepr... Obviously river-banks and public architecture will be easiest to visit - any other ideas? History, Science and Technology are some of my interests, as is enjoying mother nature.
And, besides, where's the place to go in Dnepr to enjoy nothing but a
good cold beer in a cozy pub? No "disco"/"dance-party" etc. event - just
a plain cozy pub. Any ideas?
Your ideas/answers/suggestions are very much welcomed - thanks in advance.
I will be plannig a visit this summer and have a daughter of an old frind that will meet me at the airport and serve as my guide. I will compensate her for her generous time and effort, but i wish to also bring her a gift. I plan of bringing picture of her father from long ago accompanied with a few keepsakes, but i would like to bring her something just for her that a young woman (20) would not readily be able to get and would like from the west.
TY for your help
P.S. I would like to hear from the ladies most of all lol

I have the questions for those of you living in Dnipropetrovsk or Krivoj Rog both expats and local guys. I just got an offer to go to Krivoj Rog ( I am currently in the US and I am based in the NL and I am Russian that never was in Ukraine)to work for couple of months -
I am still to decide - forgive my ignorance- but I have no idea what is going on there and what is there to do - say, if i live in KR can I drive/fly to Kiev or Odessa for a weekend - how practical is it?
since it appears to be totally industrial city to me - any entertainment/nightlife over there?
Got tons of questions naturally - I will appreciate any input...
I'm going to move to Ukraine (for work) pretty soon and since I will have an appartement and all the stuffs to go with, I was wondering about getting my own Internet connection. I will be in Dnipropetrovsk, so my request is quite narrow, maybe.
I know that most of ukrainians use Internet cafe to get online, but sinc I'm an Internet addict, I can't see my self hanging over 24/7.
So does anyone know if it's possible to get Internet (possibly Hi-speed and unlinmited) at home and if it is, if there is a good provider to take or what?
I am travelling over to Dnipro in September can you please tell me the price of beer & vodka in a bar ? I would also like to know the cost of a meal in a restaurant ?
I am looking to study Russian in Ukraine, maybe in Dnepropetrovsk. If anybody has studied in Ukraine as a foreigner could you please give me any contact details or advice where to look for information. I have sent many emails, but any help would be appreciated :-) In particular if you have studied there, details of language schools in Ukraine would be appreciated. I am doing research on the internet, but personal experiences are better :-)
It's not quite the last minute before I go, but I will be there on Saturday :-) I will be arriving at the airport in Dnipropetrovsk :-) Numerous people have told me that customs, etc. is no big deal, so I am not so worried about this, but has anyone got any general advice about things to try or do or see? :-) I haven't forgotten Inga's advice about pepper vodka ;-) I speak some Russian, so let's hope it's enough :-)))))
I don't know where to go outside of this city really! :-) I will go to Kharkiv, Crimea and I don't know where else, maybe Kyiv, but has anyone any ideas of somewhere different to go? :-)
I didn't know whether to write here, but I'll ask anyway :-) Do you have a travel guide which has good information about this city??? I have lonely planet, but there is very little information on this city. Of course there is vt, but I can't carry my computer around with me :-)))))) Adam
HI, I am from Sydney. I need to know how to get there from Berlin, or the cheapest way from London?. What hotels are reasonably priced? How many US Dollars per Ukranian currency?
