Angkor Wat Is it worth to rent taxi and tour guide for 3 days
Posted: Thu September 6, 2007 03:15 PM UTC
Hi!
I wonder if it is worth to rent fullday taxi and tour guide for 3 days.
Cost for 3 days is about 170$ including some places outside Angkor (lake).
I think in Angkor taxi maybe is not needed as we will mainly walk whole day.
Maybe only for trips outsite Angkor is worth take taxi ex. 2 days?

Angkor Wat How Many Days in Siem Reap?
Posted: Thu August 23, 2007 03:14 AM UTC
Hi,

I'll be on a very fast paced trip in Southeast Asia in December. My plane gets into Kuala Lumpur at 1PM on Dec 26, which means I will have to wait until the next day at 11AM to get into Siem Reap. Is this day a wash? Can I see temples when I get in, or is it too late?

My options for day 2 is to see a full day of temples and spend another night, or see temples until 1PM and head out for a flight to my next destination at 3PM. Of course, I'd like to see the full day of temples, but that would mean I have to fly out at 3PM the *next* day -- almost 3 days in Siem Reap, which cuts into my time in other locations (Luang Prabang, new year's in Bangkok, Chang Mai, Soppong). What would you do?

FYI, I've basically got only 10-11 days on the ground, thanks to a combination of annoying low-fare flight times and a company that won't let me off the leash for too long.

Thanks!

Angkor Wat currency questions
Posted: Fri June 29, 2007 03:26 AM UTC
Hi,

We are travelling from Australia to Vietnam and then Cambodia and we are unsure of what currency to organise. The posts I have read on here suggest US$. I spoke to my travel agent and she said US$ and Dong for Vietnam, but only US$ for Cambodia. I have read recently that the Cambodians won't accept Riel from tourists. Is this correct??
I am finding it a bit confusing as I am so used to travelling and changing Australian $ into local currency.

Also what do the ATMs spit out. I have been told you can get either US$ or local currency. Is this correct.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Tahnks in advance

Angkor Wat CAMBODIA TOUR AGENCY
Posted: Sat May 5, 2007 11:53 PM UTC
We are going to Siem Reap in July and spending about 8 days there and looking for a comprehensive tour itinerary. We came across interesting tour itineraries around Siem Reap promoted by this firm in the internet:

Cambodia tour Agency
THE WORLD OF CAMBODIA
No. 011. River side street. Siem Reap. Cambodia - Tel/Fax 855 63 963 637
Mail to : cambodia.travel@angkor-cambodia.org

Website: http://angkor-cambodia.org/eng/

It claims to be a non-profit organisation. Have anyone use this agency? Your kind advice on its reliability and service is most appreciated.

Angkor Wat Currency to use in Angkor Wat & Good tour guide to recommend
Posted: Mon April 23, 2007 02:04 AM UTC
I'll be going Angkor wat this weekend. Wanted to check with travellers who have been there whether it is better to bring USD or cambodian riel?

I'm planning to stay at Sofitel. Is it a lot more expensive getting the hotel to arrange a private tour guide for the temples compared to outside agencies? Is it necessary to book a guide before i go or would it be easy to get a guide there and then? Does anyone have any good guides to recommend? Would prefer a guide who knows substantial history on the temples. Does the guide and car/driver usually come as a package or do we need to hire separately? What's the pricing like? I've heard that there is an official guides association in angkor wat, is there a website or contact no. to find out more?

would greatly appreciate if anyone can advise. Thanks! :)

Angkor Wat Angkor wat/Vietnam
Posted: Sat April 14, 2007 04:31 AM UTC
I am travelling to Asia somewhere between mid-June - end of July and was planning on taking a boat back from Ho Chi Minh to Angor Wat, then through to Thailand, though due to it being monsoon season I am worried about how safe travelling by boat might be? has anybody experienced this before? if so does anyone have advice for me? I will be in Thailand for the remainder of my time (just relaxing) and don't know whether to do Cam/Viet at the end of my trip (end of July) or at the beginning (mid-June). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Angkor Wat Which hotel location would you recommend?
Posted: Thu March 15, 2007 02:14 AM UTC
If my main purpose of going to Siem Reap is to see Angkor Wat, the city itself and some of the other usual tourisy site, which hotel location would you recommend so that the least amount of traveling is required? Which location is the most convenient so that we have easy access to restaurants and mini-markets to stock up on water etc? Your recommendation would be most appreciated! Thanks! :)

PS Is the airport far from the city or angkor wat?

When is the best time to go to Angkor Wat so that 1) one can see the reflection of Angkor Wat on the pool(when it is not so dry)and 2) it is not so hot and crowded? Which month would be the best?

Actually, it looks like my schedule would only permit me to go in April......will the moat be dried already?

Please advise! Thanks! :)

Angkor Wat Good Guideboook for Angkor Wat?
Posted: Thu February 8, 2007 11:08 AM UTC
My son is planning a trip to Angkor Wat. He doesn't have internet access right now, so I'd like to give him a good guidebook to do some reading before his trip. Can anyone recommend a good book?
There is a Moon handbook from 2006, covering Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. I don't know this series, is it helpful?
Thank you for any information.

Angkor Wat Maximising my time in Angkor Wat
Posted: Mon January 15, 2007 05:05 PM UTC
Ok i'm now sorted on the hotel front - many thanks to the VTers who responded to my previous question.
I am now trying to sort out how to really get the most from my time in Angkor.

I am thinking of getting a 3 day pass and i'm now looking at the "must see" places obviously Angkor Wat itself, Angkor Thom, Preah Khan and the surrounding smaller temples. Are there any other places in the vicinity that are maybe not in tour guides such as LP?

How long do people generally spend visiting these places each day I am active and quite fit as well as being able to cope in high temperatures so although I'm not out to make it like an endurance test, some idea of length of day exploring would be of help.

Is there a "dress code" as such there i.e. arms covered, long trousers etc as I don't want to cause any offence by dressing insensitively.

I would also like to go further afield to Ta Prohm, Beng Mealea, Bantay Srei not necessarily all of these. Is this possible in a 3 day slot or would I need to stay an extra day here in order to see one or more of these sites.

Many thanks once again for your help

Angkor Wat Hotel with pool in or around Siem Reap
Posted: Sat January 13, 2007 10:55 AM UTC
I am intending to go to Siem Reap with the intention of speding 3 days exploring Angor Wat and surroundings. My main priority for booking a hotel for this part of my trip is that it must have a swimming pool so that I can have a relaxing swim at the end of a day of exploring. Does anyone have recommendations based on their own experiences.

Many thanks

Angkor Wat Anyone planning trip to Siem Riep (Angkor Wat) at end August 2007-early Sept?
Posted: Thu January 11, 2007 11:40 AM UTC
I will be going to Siem Riep/Angkor Wat with my wife from 30 Aug-3 Sep 2007. We are both Malaysian, in our mid 30s with average fitness. This will be my 2nd time there though it will be the first for my wife. We'll be staying at the guest houses in the town centre/market area (have not confirmed which one yet). We are looking for another couple to share the costs of hiring a car and guide to tour the temple complex from 31st Aug-2nd Sep). Preferably from same age group. We aren't luxury travellers but my wife wouldn't appreciate touring the temples perched on the back of a motorcycle and being baked in the sun either! We will be leaving KL on the Air Asia flight to Siem Riep on 30th Aug. Please email me at rm2co@hotmail.com, if interested. Cheers!
