Angkor Wat Getting around Angkor Wat
Posted: Sat April 19, 2008 10:31 AM UTC
I am arriving at Siem Reap in the early afternoon and will then stay for two days therafter. Is two and a half days enough to do Angkor Wat justice? What would you recommend as the must see points of the area. Also how do I get to Angkor from Siem Reap, and what is the best way to get around the sites once there. Is it better to go with an organised tour or independently? If with tour guide can you recommend the best people to go with.

Angkor Wat Can anyone recommend a place?
Posted: Thu April 3, 2008 03:42 AM UTC
Hi can you guys recommend/ suggests a cheap place to stay (like 7-15$ max per room/night), a place that is clean, has good location (like we can still walk at night in some markets, restaurants etc.)...and a place near the tourist sights...I heard that guesthouses and hotels near old markets are the good location is it true? There's so many choices and good reviews that i have read in the forums but its still different when someone "really" stayed there..hehe.. because some hotel reviews are overrated.. I really hope to hear from you soon... your suggestions/recomendations will be very much appreciated...thanks:)

Angkor Wat Things to see/do
Posted: Tue March 4, 2008 10:06 PM UTC
Hi! We are arriving in our siem reap hotel between 3 to 4pm. Can we still go to any of the temples inside the archaeological park around this time? Any suggestion which one? Is there enough time?

If not, any suggestions please where we could stroll around or shop? Any good chinese or western food around? About how much is a typical meal around here outside hotel? What about dinner buffets in the hotels?

Also, forgive me for my ignorance, if we watch the sunrise in angkor wat or bayon or wherever, then go back to our hotel for breakfast, does that mean we pay the entrance fee again when we go back mid-morning?

Many thanks VTers!

Angkor Wat side trip to floating village
Posted: Mon March 3, 2008 07:33 AM UTC
I'm thinking of taking a side trip to the floating village (lake Tonle Sap?), would i need to book a driver to bring us there or are there any other modes of transport to it? what about the boat? Approximately how long should this side trip take?

I've read a few comments that the floating village is sort of a tourist trap? any comments on that? Or any other suggestions for an interesting 1 or half day side trip?

many thanks!!

Angkor Wat Visiting Cambodia
Posted: Thu February 7, 2008 03:36 AM UTC
Hi, we're thinking of visiting Cambodia (incl. Angkor Wat), but are not quite sure whats the best arrangement.

Is it very far from Pnomh Penh to Siem Reap (I'm assuming thats where Angkor Wat is, please correct me if I'm wrong).

How long is it advisable to stay @ Siem Reap (I suppose there's a limit to how many temples a person might want to see) .........

Any attractions worth checking out in Pnomh Penh ?

Most grateful for any advice from ny VTers out there.

Cheers.

Angkor Wat Hanoi to Angkor Wat
Posted: Mon February 4, 2008 02:48 AM UTC
Are there any airlines/budget that fly from Hanoi to Siem Reap or Phnom Penh (other than Vietnam Airlines, they're quite expensive) And do you guys know their prices?
I'm planning a tour of BKK-Hanoi-Angkor Wat(Phnom Penh). Flights from BKK to Hanoi seems easy to find, and I'm gathering Bangkok Air has a monopoly on the BKK-Angkor line. It's the Hanoi-Angkor line that is hard to find.
Thanks.

Angkor Wat Bangkok to Angkor Wat
Posted: Sat February 2, 2008 08:51 AM UTC
I have made a lot of reading on how to get to Angkor Wat, and have decided maybe taking the early morning train to Aranyaprathet as the flights are too expensive for me. However I am still unsure on the best way to then travel onto and through the border to Siem Reap. If anyone could give me some advice that would be great, is a taxi the quickest, best way and what's the best way to avoid being scammed?
How long could I expect a jounrey to take all in all from Bangkok to Siem Reap?

Many Thanks

Angkor Wat photos
Posted: Thu January 17, 2008 12:20 AM UTC
Is it appropriate to take photos of the monks while they are at their prayers in the temples ? I'm thinking of the quiet photos, not a posed one. And, if you ask for a posed one, either at Angkor Wat or in Siem Reap, is it appropriate to ask, and is it expected that a small payment be made for the photo ?

We are heading to Siem Reap for five days next month, and are searching the archives here for your suggestions. Thanks!

Angkor Wat How to arrive from Vietnam and how long do I need to be there?
Posted: Wed January 16, 2008 02:22 PM UTC
Hi,

I am planning a trip to Vietnam, and would like to keep a few days to cross and see Angkor Wat.
Two questions:
Which is the best place or way to cross from Vietnam, via plane, train or whatever? It doesn´t matter the city in Vietnam where I do need to depart from, I have plenty of time to arrange.
How many nights/days would I need to see angkor?

Thxs!!

Angkor Wat Feb in Angkor Wat??
Posted: Sun January 13, 2008 07:20 PM UTC
I'm going to Angkor Wat in either Febuary or early March. How will the weather be around this time? Is it a good time to go? Will there be alot of tourists or a moderate amount of tourists? To appropriatly cover Angkor Wat and the surrounding area, how long would it take to do this? Besides Angkor Wat, what else is recommended to see in the area?

Thanks

Angkor Wat Angkor Wat temples vs. India temples
Posted: Wed January 9, 2008 03:35 AM UTC
Hello,

I'm a first timer moving through SE Asia on a relaxed but not lazy pace. After hitting NE Asia (Mongolia, Far East Russia, Korea, Japan and then Taiwan), I'll be spending a week or so in Vietnam before entering Cambodia.

My question is, since I grew up in India and have seen a lot of amazing rock-cut temples, I want to know how different and unique the Angkor Wat temples are to those in India.

Will a novice to temple architecture might be a lot more fascinated with Angkor Wat than someone like me who's been exposed to Indian temple architecture?

Will a one-day trip from Sunrise to Sunset be enough in my case to see Angkor Wat?

Thanks and Happy Travels,

Ram

Angkor Wat Accommodation (The Villa vs Golden Temple) & guide
Posted: Fri October 12, 2007 04:27 AM UTC
I am stuck in deciding which guesthouse to stay in:

1. The Villa Siem Reap - I really prefer this hotel as it gets real good reviews from this website. But my concern is that will it be inconvenient for a single traveller like me to go to old market for nightlife activities? Because it seems to be a bit far away from the old market area.

2. Golden Temple Villa Guesthouse - For this GH, it is much nearer to the old market area. But is this a good GH to stay?

And lastly, for a single traveller, is it better to hire a guide for my trips, or to join a tour packages available, or just hire a tuk-tuk driver will do? As this is my first time to travel alone, I really need advices from you all. Thanks in advance.

Angkor Wat Is it worth to rent taxi and tour guide for 3 days
Posted: Thu September 6, 2007 03:15 PM UTC
Hi!
I wonder if it is worth to rent fullday taxi and tour guide for 3 days.
Cost for 3 days is about 170$ including some places outside Angkor (lake).
I think in Angkor taxi maybe is not needed as we will mainly walk whole day.
Maybe only for trips outsite Angkor is worth take taxi ex. 2 days?

Angkor Wat How Many Days in Siem Reap?
Posted: Thu August 23, 2007 03:14 AM UTC
Hi,

I'll be on a very fast paced trip in Southeast Asia in December. My plane gets into Kuala Lumpur at 1PM on Dec 26, which means I will have to wait until the next day at 11AM to get into Siem Reap. Is this day a wash? Can I see temples when I get in, or is it too late?

My options for day 2 is to see a full day of temples and spend another night, or see temples until 1PM and head out for a flight to my next destination at 3PM. Of course, I'd like to see the full day of temples, but that would mean I have to fly out at 3PM the *next* day -- almost 3 days in Siem Reap, which cuts into my time in other locations (Luang Prabang, new year's in Bangkok, Chang Mai, Soppong). What would you do?

FYI, I've basically got only 10-11 days on the ground, thanks to a combination of annoying low-fare flight times and a company that won't let me off the leash for too long.

Thanks!
