I read somewhere that there are 2 seperate tariffs; DB Bahn's if you take a IC or EC train or SH's tariff if you use a local train. I want to take the local train. Is there a special ticket that I should ask for (so I don't get the fast train)? How much does the local train to Hamburg cost? Is there a special ticket where local transportation in Hamburg is included because I have to continue with bus to my final destination.
I would really appreciate any help because I feel quite confused at the moment!
My husband and I and our two children (ages 2 and 7) will be traveling to Kiel for a family event. We had originally thought that the trip would be in the warmer months, but we have just learned we will be there in January! This brings up many questions for us:
-what are some good things to do with children in the area at that time?
-is it possible to rent a vacation apartment in midwinter?
In the past, we have flown into Hamburg and taken the train to Kiel. This time we are considering coming into another city -- Copenhagen, Berlin, Amsterdam, Munich, or even Paris -- instead. Any thoughts on this? Which of these cities would be most appealing and child-friendly in January? Thank you!
We are going to get a train from Dusseldorf to Kleve to visit the cemetary as my husband's uncle is buried there. We want to leave flowers on behalf of the family in Australia. We do not have a car, and are not confident of driving anyway, so it is possible to get a taxi from the town? Any information would be appreciated.
I want to get get from Lubek airport (Ryanair flight) on a sunday by train to Oldenberg - final destination is The Hof Oberlethe Centre 7.5 miles south of Oldenberg. Can anyone advise how accessible is the bus to train station in Lubek and onward to destination
Hi there,
I will be looking to travel from Lubeck to Warnemunder on Monday 6th july.Is there good public transport links between these towns or should I hire a car?I have been to Lubeck before, but never travelled in this direction.
Thanks for any advice.
Visitor from Dublin.
I have been entertaining the idea of going to Berlin for five days in the upcoming months to see a Hertha Berlin (I'm a massive football fan) game and stay at a hostel during my stay.
My first question is would it be difficult to find one ticket to the Olympiastadion for a game? The time I'm looking at they are playing Borussia Gladbach at home if that helps. Also if I am going by myself should I try to find tickets in a certain section?
Second, since I am traveling myself I want to stay in a hostel so I can meet some other travelers and possibly explore the city with some other people. Is this a good plan or am I overestimating the social & community experience of hosteling? Thanks for any help that can be provided.
I was wondering about travel times using Länder-Tickets in the Schleswig-Holstein region. I don't have much time, but would love to see the North and Baltic Seas in one day. I would like to see Sylt, Flensburg and Kiel, staying either in Sylt or Kiel for one night. Does anyone know how much the travel time would be between these places? I'd like to stop over for at least a few hours in each.
I read abt. the train terminal built in 1961 - would like some information as to HOW the train gets across the water between Germany and Denmark. Thanks, Leonore
This is my first Wacken. I will be staying in Hamburg a few days prior to the festival. I will be alone at the festival so not keen on camping. Is it possible to travel to and from the festival to Hamburg each day?
some friends of mine and me, all from Hamburg, would like to go to the Ostsee one weekend and camp there one night. Preferably at the beach and NOT at a camp site. Is this possbile in your opinion?
We know that it is not allowed, but it would still be nice to do it anyways. In other parts of the world noone would care ALTOUGH it is not allowed. This might be different here in Germany I guess. We'd just sit around in the dunes with a keg or case of beer and get the tents up around 1 hour before sunset and take them down again early in the morning. Has anyone done this before? Anyone been caught?
We'd come by train and/or bus from Hamburg. Any recommendation where exactly at the Ostsee it might not be so crowded and therefore possible to do this from Saturday to Sunday one weekend?
If all of you are strictly recommending NOT to do it, tell me. And which camp site/ where would you recommend then instead?
Hi
I'm trying to book a weekend away in Lubeck and i've been advised to fly to Hamburg. How far is Lubeck centre from the airport? and can I get there using public transport, or do I need to hire a car?
Thanks

Hey -
Will be in Germany for three months. Any recommendations for international calling? My U.S. cell phone plan is a small fortune. I'll be moving through different countries and making calls in Europe and the U.S. Thanks for your help, as always! :-)
Hi! When do I buy tickets for the opera when I will be in Berlin for the 1st week in April?
I'm thinkig about the traditional fora such as Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Komische Oper, Deutche Oper Berlin, Neukollner Oper, and perhaps concert halls like the Philharmonie, Kammermusiksaal, konzerthaus Berlin?
I don't speak German, so it would be helpful if I am directed to an online site, that it be in English.
Boat ride Posted: Sun August 19, 2007 10:32 PM UTC
Hi everyone!
Are there different companies that offer boatride tours? If so, is one preferred over another? Any suggestions? I'm not looking for anything fancy. I don't want to eat on board, just a nice tour to see the sites, take photos, and relax a long the way.
my question may sound a bit strange, but maybe...
So if there's a possibility to see some sea animals in Nordfriesische islands, maybe some companies offer such opportunity. I see there are lot of small towns around, but don't know which would be the best to choose. And if one can see there high tide?
ps. I'm poor with German language :)
We are looking for a hotel for 4 people (2 adults - 2 kids) in either Flensburg or elsewhere in Schleswig Holstein. (we plan to drive back from a day at Legoland in Billund, Denmark, and want a nice but reasonable hotel someplace after we cross the border (Denmark hotels seem to be significantly more expensive). Clean and good breakfast are the 2 primary requirements (but I have never run into a "dirty" German hotel thus far ...). Not too far off the autobahn would be nice ....
