Phnom Penh Bangkok to Phnom Penh
Posted: Mon September 21, 2009 01:55 AM UTC
Hello,

A friend and I will be travelling from Bangkok to Phnom Penh from Cambodia in May. We have done this before and last time took a very cheap airline but can't remember the name of the airline. Any ideas?

Also, we are looking for the cheapest way to travel to PP from Bangkok. Is there a cheap bus fare to travel this distance?

Thank you,
Stormie

Phnom Penh Possibly staying in Phenom Penh
Posted: Thu May 14, 2009 06:30 PM UTC
Hi all,

Some buddies an I will be traveling SE Asia this Friday, but they're doing the planning. They are some "good ole boys" so I plan to have a backup just in case. Can anyone recommend a hotel within walking distance to a kick ass bar/the party section of the city? Everywhere I read indicates that the city at night can be a bit dodgy (don't know about that, Bucharest at night was pretty sketchy but incredibly cool, and I can't be more complimentary to the people). We'll probably be coming in by bus from Siem Reap so I'd be interested in a place that can arrange a transfer from the station to the hotel. Budget not a problem, prefer nicer accommodations though...I've been westernized :P

Thanks

I am looking to take a short break to Cambodia next week for a second visit
this time I want to stay in PP on day of arrival and day of departure then travel down to Sihanouk Ville for 3nts -
now can you experts advise on the following;
*where is best location to stay in Sihanouk Ville
*basic hotel with one essential requirement must be clean and tidy with fresh linen and towels & private shower in PP & Sihanouk Ville
*am I better to take taxi than bus to Sihanouk Ville and how long will it take?
*is Sihanouk Ville more or less expensive than PP

Thank you in advance from a traveller who does not go anywhere without consulting VT members ;)

Phnom Penh Tourist Spots Accessible by Foot?
Posted: Mon April 20, 2009 03:18 PM UTC
Hi there, me and my friends are planning to visit Cambodia sometime early November and would like to know if we could get around Phnom Penh ourselves or would a guide be necessary?

Was hoping to stay somewhere in town and do some exploring ourselves actually. Are most of the tourist spots accessible by foot?

Hope someone can help.

Thanks.

Phnom Penh Pubs/Bars in Phnom Penh
Posted: Mon February 23, 2009 04:21 PM UTC
I'm in Phnom Penh for a bit of business mid March and always like to go for a beer and meet the locals. I haven't been to Phnom Penh since 2000 and used to drink at Heart of Darkness and stay at the Walkabout.
Any new places opened since then?

Phnom Penh Travel from Phnom penh to Siem Reap
Posted: Wed January 7, 2009 09:55 AM UTC
Hi,

I am hoping to fly into PP 3rd week of January with a view to heading for Siem Reap & Ankor Wat for a few days. I have a few questions re transport.

I was hoping to catch a reasonably quick bus there, perhaps directly from the airport. What are my best options in this regard. How much should I expect to pay and how long does the journey take. I'm looking at a reasonably early morning arrival into PP via Air Asia.

Is private mini-van or taxi hire viable economically/safety/speed wise, (there will be three of us so cost, while still an issue, is not necessarily the biggest concern).

Failing bus, the boat option looks interesting. Is it the case that you just go to the port and grab one or must the tickets be purchased from an agency in advance? How far from the airport to the dock and how often do these boats normally go on a daily basis?

I appreciate any help I can get on this.

regards,

Xb

Phnom Penh Long-term stay in Phnom Penh
Posted: Tue January 6, 2009 12:01 PM UTC
Hello, everyone, I would like to ask you about money matters staying in Phnom Penh for a longer time. I am doing my Masters in International Development and I specialize on SE Asia, particularly Cambodia. At the end of July I am coming to Phnome Penh to undertake a 4-month unpaid placement at one of many NGOs there. My question would be how much money do I need to have a descent (not posh) life in Phom Penh. Is 500-700 $ a resonable amount of money?
I have been to Phnom Penh before as a tourist, but I can't make any conclusions just spending there two days. How much is a regular room to rent in nowadays and how much would I need for other expenses (food, entertainment, etc.)?

Best regards,
Paulius

Phnom Penh Bus from Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh (Saigon)
Posted: Sat November 29, 2008 03:29 PM UTC
My wife and I need to get from Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh in mid-April of 2009. I think that taking the express bus might be a lot more interesting than flying (yet again). However, I am concerned about the reliability of the bus trip, as we need to get to Saigon to catch our return international flight. Anyone have any experience with this?

Phnom Penh Odd pray for Wat Penh temple ;)
Posted: Wed November 5, 2008 02:14 PM UTC
Hi everyone!

I've got a real, real odd question. I try to make it sound as little strange as possible ;).
Well: there is this Wat Penh temple in Phnom Penh. On my Lonely Planet there was a notice, which said that in this temple you can make a wish, and if you get your wish satisfied, you should bring some bananas - because the buddhas there (?) like bananas.
I went there mainly for sightseeing purposes, but as I was already there I thought I could also make a wish, and I promised some bananas in case it worked out. It was a real unrealistic wish, and I NEVER EVER thought I would get it satisfied.
But then, almost half a year later, the unexpected happend, and i got what i had wished for!! I was quite happy, of course. And now I start to think that I should meet the conditions for that ;) (i don't want the universe to be angry on me - and I definitly don't want the 'present' to be taken back!! :) )

So... call me superstitious, call me stupid - but I really think I have to place some bananas there. But: I'm back in Europe, and wont be in Cambodia that soon again (let's say: within the next couple of years :s). Here comes the pleading part: If there is ANYONE out there going to that temple soon - could you maybe put some bananas there for me?

I know this sounds soooo odd, and actually I have no idea how I could compensate you for that. I'll share my travel experiences with you, show you around in my place, whatever... I'd do a lot for that :)

Would be so great if there was anyone who could do that for me.... :)

Cheers,
ianchen

Phnom Penh Visa question (including e-visa)
Posted: Mon May 12, 2008 04:43 PM UTC
Hi all,

Me and my wife are visiting Cambodia between the 10-14 August this year. We'll be flying into Siem Reap on the 10th for 2 days, then flying onwards to Phnom Penh for a further 2 days.

Simple plan!

So I looked at the visa situation and found this e-visa thing. I thought I'd go for that. So I filled all the stuff out and paid my money and eagerly awaited the arrival of my e-visa's. And sure enough they did.

But it says the visa expire on the 12 August - the same day we leave Siem for PP. (And exactly 3 months from the issue date!)

I looked on the website and found out that as long as we arrive before the expiry date, then we can stay for a further 30 days. This would be fine, but the fact that we will arrive at PP airport on the day our visas expire makes me worried. I'm aware that we will have just flown a domestic flght, but what if someone wants to check our visa's?

Basically, can someone settle my mind. I don't fancy having to pay another $50.

Regards

Jason

Would appreciate if someone could advise me if it is easy to get a cab in the early morning on Sunday to catch my 06:45am flight. I'll be staying at Sunway hotel near Wat Phnom. How much should I be expected to pay for the ride?

In addition, please recommend some nice restuarants near my hotel.
