Driving from Tulcea-Odessa--Romania/Ukraine border Posted: Thu March 13, 2008 03:38 AM UTC
Hi there,
I'm going to be driving a car from Tulcea-Odessa in May. Does anybody know of the easiest way to travel this route by car?
I understand there's a border crossing between Galati and Reni. Is this correct? Can private motor vehicles pass through this border?
I have a New Zealand passport, and I understand I need to get a transit visa for Moldova if I pass through Moldovan territory. Does anybody know if this can be done at the Moldovan border, or does it need to be done at a Moldovan embassy beforehand?
Many thanks,
H

Walking city sidewalks at night? Posted: Wed March 5, 2008 09:56 PM UTC
You said in your tips page about the city streets and it would be wise to use a taxi. You said to be careful walking the city sidewalks at night. Are there muggers and thieves, or just big potholes in the sidewalks to worry about?

East Crimea (Krym) Posted: Wed February 27, 2008 08:43 PM UTC
I'm going to travel in the east Crimea - Feodosia/Sudak cities region for a 2008 summer with my mountainbike and sleepingbag to do nothing but bike riding, trekking, swimming, fishing, sleeping and so on. I`m a student, not a profesional guide or some sort.
I know this region well (some lovely and beautifull wild and not so wild spots there, unique landscapes and beautiful sightseens) and i speak english a little, so maybe i'll be usefull for someone?
Sorry for my english

Disabled travel to Lugansk by Air? Posted: Thu February 21, 2008 09:17 PM UTC
I am from Canada and disabled. I'm in a wheelchair and can not stand or walk!
I wish to travel to Lugansk! How is the airline for some one with my kind of special needs? I would need assitance to get on the plane and in a seat and again get off. I would imagine I would need to be lifted /carried on and off as the plane looks very small!
As well I only speak english?
Also would I any problems at the airport in Lugansk?
I would be flying from Kiev to lugansk!
Thank you for any information you can provide?

bicycle shop i Kiev. Posted: Wed February 20, 2008 04:00 AM UTC
i'm thinking about going cycling through the Ukraine and i was wondering if there are any bicycle stores in Kiev.
it would kinda be easier just to buy the bike on location instead of dragging one on the plane from denmark.

Best train connections for traveling from Berlin to Lviv (Lemberg) via Germany, Austria, Hungary? Posted: Mon February 18, 2008 11:02 PM UTC
Hi,
My boyfriend and I are flying from NYC to Berlin in August and plan to visit Germany, Austria, and Hungary on the way to a wedding in Lviv (Ukraine) using the Eurail select pass for three adjoining countries. We'll need to get back to Berlin to catch our flight back to the US a few days after the wedding.
Can anybody give us advice on the best train routes by train, including sleepers?
I've looked at some blogs on the web but they appear a few years old and not sure if things have changed since. Another thing is that my boyfriend is Mexican and I don't know if that would increase time spent with border controls on certain train connections. I'm German and both of us have valid passports and US work visas, but some blogs sounded a little scary with regard to border control delays....
We're not so keen on traveling via Poland or Czech Republic as those countries wouldn't be covered by our Eurail pass - we would need to buy separate ones for Eastern Europe and Germany (single country) pass, which is rather expensive.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thank you in advance,
Maren

London to Kiev via train Posted: Wed January 23, 2008 06:18 PM UTC
I am thinking of traveling to Kiev by train from London. There is a website which explains this, and I see the routing is London-Brussels-Berlin-and or Warsaw-Kiev. Has anybody done this trip, and how is the journey in general? As I only speak English, will I run into any real difficulties. I am traveling on a budget, and know I can get a direct flight on Air Baltic, but always fancied the train option? I assume I do not need any visas, as I have an English passport. Can I do a stop over in Berlin? Thanks for anybody's advice.

Kiev Accomodation middle of February Posted: Wed January 23, 2008 06:09 PM UTC
I know someone has already posted this question, and I know its possible to do a search for apartments in Kiev on Google, but can anyone recomend any good appartments, at a reasonable price or agents, who gave a good service and had reasonable options. I am looking for a price around the US$ 50 - 60 per night, for 5-7 days or so. I have my wife and small daughter. Best Regards and thanks for your help.

Car-Ferries on the Crimea Posted: Tue January 22, 2008 09:34 AM UTC
Hello everybody,
could someone help me with my following questions?
In march we will drive with our own car to visit Odessa and the Crimea. I plan to cross the land bridge from Takhankhut to Sevastopol. As far as I know it is divided by a channel so the road is interrupted. Is there a car ferry, is it in operation in march and is there a fixed schedule?
Second question: I want to leave the Crimea by Arabatskaya Strelka. Again there is a channel shortly before reaching Genicesk. Is there a bridge or a car ferry?
It would be very nice if a member of the VT community could help with any advice.
Thanks a lot for reading my questions and please excuse me if I spelled the geographical terms wrong
