Kiev Kiev Accommodation / what area please ?
Posted: Mon November 2, 2009 09:39 PM UTC
Hi,

I will be visiting Kiev alone early next month ( pleasure trip ). It will be my first time in Ukraine & i am unsure of where to book accommodation. Ideally it would be close to where public transport from the Airport . The hotel doesn't have to be luxury. Around 50 euro's per night would be great.

Also does anyone know best place to change my ££'s into hryvnas ? I have heard you get a poor rate at the Airport & it's difficult to get Ukranian money in the UK.

Finally is everything around the city in the cyrillic alphabet. This caused me massive problems in Sofia earlier this year with the street names & it took me 4 hours to find my hotel. ( yes i now know i should have got a taxi lol )

Many thanks in advance,

Darren.

Ukraine Driving and getting around in Ukraine.
Posted: Fri October 30, 2009 03:25 AM UTC
Hi,

I'm planing to go to the Ukraine on a business trip. I was planning on renting a car and driving to various destinations. However, I spoke to a friend that was in the Ukraine recently and he advised me not to drive in the Ukraine as the police stop people for no reason and give fines, driving is terrible, roads are poor, and if one gets lost it is very difficult to communicate in English. Is there anything true in what my friend told me? Do you think that a personal driver is a must?

Thanks.

Posted: Sun October 18, 2009 01:20 AM UTC
I am looking for bus schedules between Kharkov and Lugansk. I will fly in to Kharkov and it was suggested that I take bus rather than train as it would be faster.
I am also interested in bus schedule between Kharkov and Poltava.

Any comments suggestions or recomendations are welcome.

Donets'k Day trip from Donetsk to Lugansk
Posted: Mon October 5, 2009 09:07 AM UTC
I'll stay a few days in Donetsk soon and would like to know if it is easy to go spend a day in Lugansk where I would like to visit the airplane museum. I would like to see also the town of Lugansk. Is there a convenient bus or train from Donetsk and how much time does the trip take ? About coming back to Donetsk in the evening, is there a good choice of buses and trains ?
Also, what nice and interesting small town (or village) can I find in the vicinity of Donetsk for a day trip ?
Thank you for your help.

Kiev Train between Kiev and Donetsk
Posted: Fri October 2, 2009 08:25 AM UTC
I plan to arrive in Kiev on october 13 and would like to take a train in the evening (7.44pm as I heard) to Donetsk. Do you think it's possible to buy a ticket on the same day in the middle of the week or are these trains quickly fully booked ? If it's full (the sleeping berths at least), can I still buy a ticket and get on this train ?
Is it possible to buy the ticket at Borispol when I arrive in Kiev ?
What other advice would you have ?
Thanks

Kiev New Year in Kiev
Posted: Mon September 21, 2009 02:07 PM UTC
Hello,

My friends and I are planning a trip to Kiev for New Year. I have a few questions, hopefully you can help me with please.

Approximately how much should we pay for an apartment with 4 beds for 5 nights? In a central location. (28 Dec - 02 Jan).

How easy will it be to get in a night club/late night bar on New Year's eve after the fire works/concerts in the Independance Square?

We like a drink (or 2!) and would be grateful for any recomendations for good restaurants, bars, night clubs to visit.

Thanks,

Jim

Ukraine Getting from Dnipropetrovsk to Lviv
Posted: Tue September 8, 2009 03:12 PM UTC
Has anyone ever traveled from DNP to Lviv? I'd like to go overnight on a train. Do I have to go through Kiev if I don't want to cross a border? How long is this train trip going to take? I can't locate a morning train from Kiev to Lviv on the 11th of Oct. on the poezda.net (whatever)website (which is not surprising).

If I want to leave DNP after the England-Ukraine match on Oct. 10, would you recommend buying the overpriced tickets online rather than taking a chance the train will be full of Brits returning from DNP?

*Please* don't respond with only suggestions to look it up online or referrals to the poeda.net website. I'm looking for people who have actually done this to weigh in.

Ukraine How to Buy Train Tix in Ukraine?
Posted: Wed September 2, 2009 03:06 PM UTC
I see it's supposed to be really cheap to buy train tix for internal travel in Ukraine. I don't want to wait til I get there to purchase, but I'm seeing a ridiculous mark-up with Real Russia (eg $150+ to go from Kiev to Lviv). How do I get the cheap fares in advance?

Lviv travel to zhidachiv
Posted: Thu August 20, 2009 04:56 PM UTC
I am planning to fly to Lviv from the United States. During my visit, I would like to travel from Lviv to Zhidachiv. Would bus service be available from Lviv to Zhidachiv? Or would it be better to hire a driver and go by car? What should I expect to pay?
I would appreciate any advice you can give me.

Sincerely, Robert Filmore (New York, USA)
