I am planning on a trip to Ukraine sometime within the next year or so. I definately want to tour Chernobyl and any other Cold War era sites i can find. I know there are a few different Soviet bunkers, command centers, and a submarine pen. Can anyone give me some tips of when would be a good time to visit and some good military / Soviet structures to tour? I am very interested in Military history (mostly WW2 - Present). Thanks

Does anyone knows herbalists(travnits) in Lutsk? 30 years ago, there were some people in Lutsk that sold herbs. They brought their recipes from Germany. They cured my kidney problem. These herbs really worked.

Hi, I have read several posts on renting short time apartm in Kiev, but they do not cover my problem. Earlier I have used stay.in with good experience. However, now they do not answer my mails.The website of stay.in is still available on the internet so I do not understand the problem. If the apartments on their website is not available they should at least tell me that.

Does anyone have a suggestion/experience with another apartm renting agency? All info is highly appreciated.

My wife and I may splurge and make a quick trip to Kiev to see McCartney. I assume Independence Square is large enough to hold many people. I also see that there are some hotels approximately 1km to the southwest.

What hotel do you recommend for me and my wife? We want a blend of high quality at the lowest cost.

Is is safe to walk from the hotel to the square for the concert?

Is there places to eat/drink in the square or between the hotel and the square?

Any information that you can provide to us will help us make the decision to visit Kiev.

In May I travel to Lugansk. I arrive in Donetsk and need a taxi to Lugansk. I heared that a taxi for that will cost 70 Euro. Can that be true ?
Or anyone knows a good and cheap service for this way ? I only speak english and can't use a bus or train.

Does the Zhytomyr Hotel have it's own website?

I originally planned to stay in Kiev at the Hyatt, however, I will be spending the majority of my time in Zhytomyr. It makes more sense to stay in Zhytomyr instead of traveling back and forth all the time.

I have read here that they have remodeled the hotel. I will be booking a 2 room suite, but need a link to their website if they have one or a link to a reputable travel agency that I can book through. I want to be sure the room is available when I get there. The less surprises for me the better.

Please advise the travel options (bus, train etc) between Kiev and Lutsk? Appoximate cost, frequency and duration. I do not want to fly, prefering to see some of the countryside.

Is there a train between Odessa and Stakhanov and if there is how long does it take? Is this the best transportation between these two cities?

How can I do to rent a small motor boat of no more than 4 to 5 hp motor during summer in Zaporozhye? I will be going during Mid June to mid July. Does anyone know anything about getting in contact with people who have small boats for rent? I would really appreciate any help.

I have been reading the two recent posts on travel northern romania to chernivtsi.
We want to go on from Romania( Suceava area) to Lviv and were advised to travel from Vadul Siret to Chernivtsi and then to Lviv.The site I have been using (Rozklad) does not list a 13.36 train but one at 8.10 from Vadul Siret, but I think that discontinues after may 25. I am a bit confused. Would someone please advise me whether to go from Siret or Suceava for a daylight train, and which is best website to use for trains which has an English translation.
Is it best to go on from Chernivtsi to Lviv by bus or train.

I've tried to find this specific topic in the forums, but haven't found exactly what I need. I'm planning on spending about a week in E. Europe this summer and I want to end it in Lviv before flying to Rome. Is there a good way to get to Lviv from Bucharest? It doesn't seem like there are any cheap airlines that fly it and I haven't found much in the way of trains. I'd even be willing to fly into Krakow or somewhere relatively closer if I could get a train there. Any help would be great!

I am planning a trip to Lviv in a few weeks time by car from the North of Romania.

I have been considering lately to go for two days also in Krakow, Poland. I need a bit of inside information about which is the best way to do this.

Is it advisable to drive from Lviv to Krakow?
Is it a bad road?
Are the customs extremely congested?
Has any of you ever driven there? How much time did it take?
Would it be better to leave my car at my hotel in Lviv and take a bus/train from there?

How to get from Piatra Neamt area (or Bacau/Suceava) in Romania to Chernivtsi and then back again? Seems there are no car rental agencies in Romania that would allow crossing the border. What other options there are, bus, train, what? And how much time one should reserve..

On my last visit to Ukraine I attempted to find the place to buy the mandatory medical insurance that I've heard about, but could not find it at the airport. Is the requirement still in effect? Or is it not something to even worry about? I was not asked about it at passport control.

I had purchased special medical insurance for this visit but was not asked for proof of it at passport control. But others have told me they were asked about this. How common is this to be asked? As I said on my last visit I was not asked about this, but should what sort of "offical" proof is usually necessary?

I have never been out of the USA and am planning a trip to the Ukraine and will be arriving in Kiev (Kyjiv) Borispol Airport. I will take this trip in September around my birthday. I am planning on staying at the Hyatt Regency Kiev. I am going to also go to Zhytomyrs'ka (Zytomyr) city.

How do I get from the airport to the Hyatt Regency? Then, how do I get from the Hyatt Regency to Zhytomyrs'ka (Zytomyr) city? What is the safest method of travel?

I noticed travelocity gave the Hyatt Regency a 5 star rating. I would like to know what your opinions of the hotel are?

I also would like to take a day or two and just look at the earth's natural beauty. To go on a walk, hike, or something similar. Are there any tours or anything like that available? To me, seeing the earth's natural beauty is what I look forward to the most.

I will be learning to speak Russian over the summer (May-Aug) so I hopefully won't be so lost.

Is there any other advice you could also give a first time traveler?

Known to my family and friends since I was young as half-pint. Even though I'm 37 years old, I am still called half-pint by them. A nickname that stuck.

I've been given postcards that my Dad wrote in 1942, whilst in a German prison, to his family who lived in Stryj. The address given is ul Prywytna/Przywytna??. My family were forced to leave Stryj around this time, so I have no further information. Would street names have changed, once the country became part of the Ukraine?

How's this for an international question - I'm Canadian (in Canada) trying to help my friend in Australia locate a phone number for his uncle in Dashava Ukraine. I've been searching online but there doesn't seem to be a "white pages" (residential) website for the Ukraine, or at least not for all of it. Of course, not being a Ukrainian speaker/reader, perhaps I'm missing something.
Can anyone assist me in locating residential phone numbers for a Kril in Dashava, Lviv region of Ukraine? Not sure if this will come through properly or not, but the Ukrainian spelling for the name is Kріпь, I believe.
