Lucerne Anyone Visiting the Lucerne Museum of Transportation?
Posted: Fri April 11, 2008 08:55 PM UTC
Hi All. The Lucerne Museum of Transportation was (and hopefully is) displaying the boat, “Seiko da Gindelwald, built by Seiko Nakajima. This is a approximately 7 meters long and was used to cross the Atlantic by Nakajima with a very small outboard motor. Here is a story about his voyage:
http://www.tohatsu.com/news/seiko.html

I was not able to find a web site for the Lucerne Museum of Transportation. If anyone knows of one, can you please post the link to it?

If anyone plans on visiting this museum anytime soon, would it be possible for you to take some pictures of this boat and email them to me? I'll be happy to cover the costs incurred to do this. I'm a student of boat design and would love to see more details on the shape of the hull.

Thanks!

Lake of Lucerne Transportation from Lucerne to Zurich Airport
Posted: Fri March 7, 2008 01:29 AM UTC
We are two frail ladies touring Switzerland and need to know how we can go from Lucerne, possibly Lowen Hotel @ Lungern, to the Zurich airport. We do not know if this hotel has shuttle srvice to the airport. We have each 2 suitcases and worried how we can handle them at the train station. What is our best mode of transportation to catch an 11 AM flight?

Lucerne Lucern Carnival @ Fasnacht
Posted: Wed January 16, 2008 02:56 PM UTC
We will be arriving in Switzerland via Zurich on the 31st of January (Thursday) and found out by chance that there is a Lucern Carnival going on that sounds (and looks) really fantastic. Understand there is a big parade that starts on Thursday.

Is it worth going ?

Will we be pushing it if we travel to Lucern upon landing (which is at 12:00 and after keeping our bags at the luggage storage at the train station) and take the train to Lucern to experience the carnival ?

Or should we just stick to our original plans and go to Lucern on Friday and Saturday ? Will be spending 2 nights in Lucern before leaving for Interlaken on Sunday

Lucerne Lucerne 4 nights
Posted: Mon October 1, 2007 04:11 PM UTC
Hi...i desperately need info...

I have a group of four of us travelling to Zurich on 03/10/07...we will be based in Lucerne and i need info on the following please:

1. Do we need to purchase any type of swiss pass to travel from Lucern to Mt Pilates and Mt Titlis - or is it cheaper to get ticket locally? ( we are not going to be travelling away from Lucern apart from the Mountain excursions)

2. Is Jungfraujoch feasible in a day trip from Lucerne?

3. Are there any fast food places/pizzeria (as we are all veggies)?

4. Should we purchase a tell pass?

5. How much will it cost (estimate) Lucern to Mount Pilates / Lucern to Mt Titlis?

6. Can anyone recommend a cheap and cheerful place for breakfast as its not included in our package?

7. Lastly, has anyone stayed at the Hotel Akzen Baselrtor?? Is it any good?

Thank you sooo much..awaiting your replies ...

Lucerne Mount Rigi or Mount Pilatus
Posted: Mon August 27, 2007 02:25 PM UTC
Can they both be reached all year round? Which one is in that case the most

1) scenic
2) easy to reach (huge cost difference?)

and is one better than the other in a sudden weather change (because it has a nice restaurant, exhibition or whatever)?

Do you need a full day for both or half days only?

Lucerne travel costs
Posted: Thu August 23, 2007 12:19 PM UTC
Some advice, please. Is it worth the trouble and expense of getting travelpasses if we will be in Lucerne only 3-4 days (me and husband, plus two friends)? We had wanted to go on a boat trip (maybe with a meal?), go up and down the mountain, go back and forth to Immensee, around Lucerne...thanks for your opinion!

Lucerne Are All Hotels Noisy?
Posted: Sat August 11, 2007 10:58 AM UTC
No sooner had I made reservations for the Astoria hotel than I contacted my travel agent to find another one. After Googling around, I found out that not only do they have renovation work starting at 7:00 AM; the nightclub (or is it just the bar) noise doesn't stop until 2:00 AM (4:00 AM on weekends); that leaves only 3 to 5 hours of sleep noise-free. My other option was Schiller hotel; no renovation, but some people wrote about the bar noise late at night still being an issue.

Are all hotels in Lucerne like that? Are there any bar-free, renovation-free hotels available? Till the end of August at least? This late in the season, I couldn't find many other options, but if any one can know a good place, please let me know.

Kanton Luzern Other things to do in Lucerne
Posted: Fri July 13, 2007 05:36 AM UTC
Hi again! Can someone help me with scheduling Lucerne? My plan is to leave Zurich as early in the morning as possible to get to Lucerne. Once in Lucerne I want to take the family to Mt. Pilatus, the chapel bridge, the Lion Monument and (if time) a cruise around the lake. Are all these things possible in a day? If this is too packed, please let me know.

Also, if this was your day in Lucerne, how would you plan it?

Thanks for your input!!

Hi,

I'm going to a conference in Luzern that's taking place on the 12th and 13th of July. I'll be arriving the 11th just after noon.
Are there any pubs in the town centre that have (live) jazz or blues music?

Thanks for all the info,

Lucerne one day in lucerne
Posted: Wed May 23, 2007 09:43 PM UTC
How do you get from Zurich to the starting point of a Mt Pilatus tour by car? With one day in Lucerne before heading on to zermatt would you suggest doing mt pilatus followed by Mount Rigi (if you do that do you need to go back to your car)? Or.. would you do Mount Pilatus and then Mt Titlis (How do you get from one to the other - our car?)? Would we have any time left in Lucerne? How long will it take us to then drive to Zermatt? Any short cuts? Thanks.

How do you get to the starting point of the mount pilatus round trip tour if you are travelling by car from Zurich? If only one day before heading to Zermatt, would you do Mount pilatus and Rigi? Or, Pilatus and Titlis? How would you get from the end of the tour of Pilatus to the start of a tour of Titlis? Would we leave our car all day. After our big day of touring, how long will it take to drive to Zermatt? Thanks so much
