My wife and I plan on staying in Locarno in early September, 2010. I can find a lot of general information about ferries, but not much specific about fares, passes, areas. My questions are:
1- Are there ferry passes available that are good for several of the lakes i.e. Maggiore, Como, etc. ?
2- Are there passes that are good for the ferries portions of travel both in Italy and Switzerland?
3-Where can I find info on number of days and costs of the passes?
4-Any recommendations for traveling to the most scenic spots on the lakes and minimizing car driving time??
Thanks in advance for info and your time to respond.
Bob
anybody knows the price for the scenic ride from Locarno to Domodossola (hope i got the spelling right). i would like to know the price of a return ticket and the frequency of the trains back and forth. want to do a day trip and be back in Lucarno to explore another little village Ascora (something like that). is it doable? thanks
On an all too brief visit to Locarno a month ago, I photographed a large statue near to or in the gardens adjoining the lake shore - and within walking distance of the railway station - and would like to know what it is about and to whom dedicated. It is in grey granite (?) with a Toscanini-like figure apparently reading from a scroll and surmounting a deep plinth, on which are a succession of human figures. I hope this brief description will serve to identify it. My photograph is good and clear but the inscriptions do not seem readable. Thank you.I liked Locarno and my train journey through CentoValli but I doubt I shall much longer be able to travel in Switzerland/Italy
Hi there, I'm planning a quick weekend trip to Lugano for this weekend, and if the weather is nice, I'd love to go for a swim in the lake. Does anyone know if there are any beaches or public swimming areas on the lake?
Anyone know where there are good riding schools within 20km of Lugano? They have to have their own ponies and horses. English speaking not entirely necessary.
Thanks
Sarah
I'll be in Ticino in June for 4 days (full days) but I need some help cause I still couldn't figure out if I should to stay in Locarno or in Lugano.
My main concern is that I will have to rely on public transports, probably using the Locarno or Lugano Regional Pass. Therefore I will have to choose whether I should focus more on the region around Locarno or around Lugano.
What option should I choose regarding that for this trip my main interests would be sightseeing, natural scenery, bathing and some hiking???
I have thought about the following itineraries:
Staying in Locarno:
Day 1 - Locarno
Day 2 - Ascona, Bellinzona
Day 3 - Val Verzasca
Day 4 - Lugano
Staying in Lugano:
Day 1 - Lugano
Day 2 - Around Lugano
Day 3 - Val Verzasca
Day 4 - Locarno, Ascona, Bellinzona
Are these itineraries feasible? Am I missing some place?
What are the best places for bathing in Ticino?
Is it easier to find these kind of places around Lugano or around Locarno?
What about swimming in Valle Verzasca?
i would like to visit lugano for christmas holidays.i would like to help me if it is nice to visit lugano in christmas.how is the weather there in christmas?
thank you.
We are staying in Lugano in March 2008, the main reason being my husband wants to visit Dangio where his father was born.
What is the best way to travel to Dangio from Lugano and any more infomration regarding Dangio would be greatly received as I have found limited information on the internet.
this area is very unknown to me. I'm from the uk and am planning to visit lugano in march 2008 as a surprise for my husband as he originates from a village nearby. I feel Lugano is the best place to stay just by browsing on the internet. I wanted to stay in a 5 star hotel with great views of the lakes. We're still relatively "young" (I think!!) so would prefer something not too formal but still 5 star. Any help would be greatly received.
Como to Lugano Posted: Mon September 3, 2007 09:17 PM UTC
Hi
I am staying for a week in Como town in September, is it worth doing a day trip to Lugano and if so what is the best way to get from Como to Lugano.
Many thanks
Alex
Hello, I am travelling to Pazzallo, Lugano in September for a business meeting. I am self-employed and the budget is tight so I plan to stay at least overnight to justify the costs by having a romantic couple of days with my wife.I am starting from Cornwall so I have to get to an airport that has flights somewhere near. Can anyone suggest a straightforward route and somewhere near to Pallazzo to stay for a night?
Thanks.
I'd like to attend the film festival in Locarno in August. Can anyone help me to fins very cheap accomodation? I'll only use the place for sleeping since I'll be busy on following the film festival. I ama film critic and I'll be out all days during the fest:) Thanks in adavnce!
Does anybody know how long it takes to get from Lugano (airport) to Menaggio? I'm seeing 18 kilometers from town to town but don't have any idea what buses run or how long they take. Is taxi an option and if so how much do they cost? It sounded like a lot of people commute from Menaggio to Lugano for work but I can't seem to find how long (time wise) that is.
Thanks,
Mike P.
My sister is trying to locate friends who live in Caslano, and she has a phone number for them but is unable to reach them - I don't think she has the area code. Can someone please give me the area code for Caslano. To dial from the US I believe it is 011-41, the area code and then the phone number. If this is wrong, please give me the correct dialling info.
This will be our second time visiting Switzerland. Absolutely love it there! Our base will be near Interlaken. However, this time I really want to see Ticino, Lugano. I just love with pictures of the palm tress and the lake and mountains.
As we will be traveling there during the day and probably back in the evening, where do you think will be best places to go to see the best scenery, palm tree, lake and mountain combination. I heard there is a botanical garden there. We also love boating, parks, moderate hiking. Thanks so much for any help provided.

Just out of curiousity, what time of the year were the Lugano photos taken?
I only ask as I am curious to find out when the best time to visit is to see the surrounding mountains with green in their colour.
We wish to travel on the Bernina Express on Monday 21st May from Tirano to St. Moritz. I believe there is a bus from Lugano to Tirano which meets up with the train in Tirano. As we will be on Lake Como for the previous 3 days I need to know if the connecting bus, Lugano to Tirano, stops anywhere on Lake Como and if I can reserve a place on it and what it costs etc. I would be grateful if you would reply to my E Mail address. Thank you
