Geneva to another country this Christmas Posted: Sun October 11, 2009 03:44 PM UTC
Hello, I am going to Geneva for my Christmas holiday with my partner and we are looking for another country to go to for a few days in between. We would like to go to Italy but my partner has never been to Rome and can't bare to go to Italy and not see Rome. Are there any direct buses or trains to Rome?
If not are there any good days trips from Geneva not to miss?
We will be arriving in Geneva Christmas morning, will there be things to do around the city that day? Also any good ideas or places not to miss when visiting Geneva around Christmas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Geneva to Genoa, Italy Posted: Mon August 3, 2009 04:41 AM UTC
Plan to drive from Geneva, Suisse to Genoa, Italy and would like suggestions on a great city, town, village to stay over night along the way. Could possibly alter the route to Turin, Italy, but more importantly would like to find a place to spend the night in the French-Italian Alps region.

How long will the Reformation Wall remain invisible? Posted: Thu July 23, 2009 02:23 PM UTC
I went to visit Geneva yesterday and I found, to my disappointment, that the Reformation Wall could not be seen, because the area is used as a stage for a play about John Calvin.
Does anybody know until when the area will be closed?

I have been looking into travel from Geneva to Chamonix via Martigny. I read that the train trip is very scenic but I am having trouble getting a costing on the sbb site.
I have visitors coming from Australia in December and this sounded like a good idea. Does anyone know the price please? Thank you

Cheap Accommodations Posted: Tue June 23, 2009 05:12 AM UTC
Hello!
My husband and I will be in Geneva Septemeber 7 - September 11. We are trying to find a nice place to stay for under USD $120. We will take a hotel, apartment, or hostel, as long as it is reasonably priced and is not a complete dump. If we stay in a hostel, we need to have a private room, as opposed to a dorm style room.
We would like to stay as close to the city center as possible. But, as long as we are close to public transportation (a must), then we should be okay.
Any suggestions you can offer would be greatly appreciated! Also, if you can tell us some of the better areas (zip codes) to stay in, that would be very helpful.
Thanks, and Happy Travels!

About GVA airport...can you buy flowers? Posted: Fri June 19, 2009 06:02 PM UTC
Hey everybody, thanks for your past advices, very helpful indeed. I have another question now, more mundande than the previous ones: is there a flower store in GVA airport? let alone, can you carry flowers in the aircraft? I've never done it before, so I don't know what the regulations are.
Thanks a lot.

From GVA airport to wedding in Tournon (FRA) and back.... Posted: Tue June 16, 2009 06:45 PM UTC
Hi everybody, it seems that this is a very knowledgeable forum, from what I've read. Ok, so I hope somebody can advise me on this matter: I'm flying to GVA on Sept 5, arriving at 7.45, and I'm supposed to be in Tournon (FRance, close to Albertville) before 14:00 for my friend's wedding...I was wondering if somebody could tell me the best/fastest way to get there from the airport.
Then, on Sunday 6, I have to go back tothe GVA airport to catch an flight to Berlin.
I appreciate your help.

Airport to Train Station Posted: Tue June 2, 2009 01:04 PM UTC
Hi All!
My parents are going to be landing in Geneva on Friday and will have to go to the railway station to catch their train to Zurich. The ticket for Geneva to Zurich says only "Geneve".
So can someone please tell me what is the name of the train station to which they will have to go catch their train to Zurich? Also how should they reach the train station near the airport from the Arrivals section?
Thanks a ton!

Some very basic questions regarding Geneva! Posted: Mon June 1, 2009 12:05 AM UTC
Hi All!
My parents are going to be flying from Amsterdam to Geneva this weekend. Although they have travelled a lot internationally but I want to make their trip as prepared as possible. So here are a few questions regarding the Geneva International Airport
1) Is English a common language there? Should we expect the sign boards and directions to be written in English as well? And what is the primary language that is being used in Switzerland, mainly in Zurich and Geneva? I can give them a list of common words and phrases if I know the language that is most frequently used in these cities.
2) From where can they get the free "Unireso" ticket at the airport in order to get to the main train station. If anyone has a link containing the pic of the ticket dispensing machine then that will be a big help. Also how far is the train station at the airport from the Arrivals?
3) Are there any places of tourist interest very near to the main train station? And if so then how far and how to get there?
Any help on the above will be of great use for us. I will keep posting other doubts as and when I get some.
Thanks again!

Are there ay recommended guided tours of the city which may start from the train station at around 2 for a couple of hours. 1 day stay in Geneva Posted: Tue April 14, 2009 10:59 PM UTC
We are flying into Geneva after a long trip and being old, we want to spend the night in a hotel or B&B for 1 night. After landing in the morning, we plan on heading to a hotel for a nap, then dinner in the area. We will not have a rental car. Can you recommend a hotel to stay, close to the airport for we will need to be at the airport the next morning. Any restaurant you might recommend would also be helpful.

Swiming in Geneve Lake Posted: Fri March 27, 2009 01:43 PM UTC
Hi!
We are considering the alternative to go to Geneve this summer/autumn (late august - early september) and got a question about if it is possible to swim in the Geneve Lake. I mean, generally - if the water is of good quality (if you can see the bottow somewhere at all) and if the temperature of the water is any warm then (or at all).
Thankful for all answers!

RE: Visa requirement for an Indian National Posted: Thu September 25, 2008 09:59 AM UTC
Hi,
I am an Indian national on a spouse visa. My wife is a UK citizen. With a spouse visa - I am allowed to travel to switzerland. my question is I'm flying to geneva from london on easyjet and it mentions geneva (check-in french sector). Does this mean the airline lands at the french part ? I do not have a schengen visa. Would I require it ? Or can I just go from french sector to the swiss part within the airport and avoid french customs ?
