I will spend a weekend in Zurich and have booked Ibis West. Is that a good location? In all reviews it says it's a but off and in the industrial part. which does not sound so fun. Is it a better location for Easyhotel?
Or any suggestion for hotel around 210CHF for a doubleroom for 2 nights
Any suggestion for great restaurants, pricey but not too expensive?
i have a long layover at zurich international airport and i was wondering if anybody could provide me with an estimated exit and entrace timetable so i could plan accordingly? thanks
When it comes to shopping in the smaller stores does anyone remember if they take M/C? Stores like Coop is what I am referring too. I hear that is the place to buy smaller purchases to take home like chocolate etc.
hello....I am hoping someone can help me make a decision on how to get to Zurich from Lensberg. I am new to traveling in Switzerland and have never used a rail system for travel. Is it easy??? Will I get lost? very worried and yet I don't want to spend two days wandering in Lenzberg if there is little to do there. Can someone help?
Hi,
I am coming to Zurich next week, I would like to know about electricity power there, is 110 v or 220 and what kind of plugs used in Zurich, is it like UK,
Thank you
My parents ages 77 and 81 will be in Zurich with my sister and I while I have major surgery at Schulthess Klinik in December 2009. My parents do not travel much and my mom is Italian and very clean, neat and particular. I would like it to be some place nice, CLEAN, safe and easy enough for them to reach the Klinik. My sister and I would need to stay with them for the first 2 days and then just my sister for a few days. Otherwise, my sister will be with me in the klinik. The area around Schulthess Klinik seems very expensive and though we would love something that nice, I do not think we can afford it for 3 weeks. However, since I am blessed to be getting the best care, etc...I would like them to have something nice as well especially since they are forced to make this trip from the United States under less than ideal circumstances. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated since we are not sure at all what to do here though I have been looking and looking... Thank you very much!!
I will be going to Zurich en route to Interlaken and will be there just for an evening and would welcome suggestions to make the best of the time available. I am planning to stay at the Crowne Plaza and would love to have a typical fondue dinner and probably some show or musical to end the day. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
Hello,
I am looking for some information on the University of Zurich. I am thinking of taking a master course there (neural networks & computation) and taking a new direction in life! So, I was wondering what the reputation of the university is like and what to expect from life in Zurich. Also, am I correct in assuming that life in Zurich is expensive - I mean accommodation, general living costs. Of course, I would work a part-time job if I could get it, but I don't have much German at the moment as I would be hoping to take some lessons upon arrival. Would be grateful for any advice as I want to go, but need to work out if I can afford it!
Cheers...
Hello!
I am just about to book a night at Etap hotel in Zurich. My question is, how far is it from the main train station. I will be arriving at around 10 pm and I wonder if it is safe for me to be walking around Zurich looking for this hotel.
If you know a hotel that is just in front of the main train station, please let me know too.
Thank you so much for your help.
Hello, my trip is finally coming up. Few more questions before I go.
I hear that most of the places are closed on Sundays. I plan to visit the following cities. Zurich, Geneva, Lauterbrunnen, Lucerne, Bern not in any particular order. (I am staying in Zurich)
-Should I arrange a trip in a way that I can go to Lauterbrunnen and visit Jungfraugh on a Sunday or that's closed as well?
- I was recommended to visit Rapperswil - are there other similar towns in the area of Zurich that are of similar interest.
-Should I take a walking tour in every city mentioned above or for some its not necessary
-I was hoping to paraglide - any suggestions, schedules, pricing - I understand it would have to happen in Lauterbrunnen/Interlaken area but any advise is appreciated. Does it need to be booked in advance.
-Any restaurants that have really delicious food budget for dinner is ~ $100 -$170 for both. If you can provide 1-2 in each city it would be greatly appreciated.
-Lastly, since Switzerland is a skiing country - would I be able to bring my kid who is 1.5 years a nice warm snow suit - is it worth it to shop there or I am better of shopping for it in the states. I know that shopping is very expensive in Switzerland, but maybe there are some outlets or factory stores.
Thank you for everyone's help in advance. this is always very helpful.
I will be traveling through Zurich and will have half a day to explore...
Based on someone's suggestion I was thinking of going to lindenhof garden and walking about the old town. Any suggestions on what I should do? Where should I park?
Possibly would be interested in driving upto Uetliberg but maybe too much to accomplish. If I do decide to go up there, what do I put into my GPS as I could not find a physical address?
Just have another question regarding switzerland.
I'm planning to stay in zurich for 3 nights(thurs-sat), just so its in the city and there's more of a
nightlife. And I am also planning to stay up in the valleys(Murren area) for 3 nights(sun-tues)
So I was just wondering if there's anything to do at night up in the Murren valley area?
I have my day trips planned already, but I also want to see if there's any bars/nightlife around that area.
If there isn't, would someone recommend another area that I should stay which might have more things to do at
night from(sun-tues) besides Zurich?
I am planning to spend 6 days in Switzerland and i have a few questions for the fellow locals in Zurich or experienced VT travellers to Switzerland.
1) I was wondering how many days will i need out of my 6 days to see Zurich?
2) would anyone know of any cheap descent hotel recommendations in Zurich?
3) would anyone know which cheap airline would be the best to take from Zurich to Amsterdam?
and my last question
4) My iterinary will be Zurich, Luzern and ?? should i go see Bern or Interlaken, which one would be more convenient and closer to get to?
What's the most affordable way of traveling from Zurich airport to Thun?
I checked on SBB and it was 46 CHF. Is there perhaps some better deal
with a bus perhaps?

- Why are there no youth hostels or backpackers in zurich??? i only seen one but it's outside of the city!!
- what sort of day tours do you suggest i do?
- Is Zurich a big city? is it easy to move around?
Hi! am recovering from an ankle fracture which happened in may. now that i m crutch free but not altogether fully mobile, i m planning a trip to Switzerland and France. will be flying into Zurich in mid september. will be heading for a Frontenay in France after a few nights in Zurich for a week and then have at least 2 and a half weeks more to spare in the area. any suggestions where my husband and i can do some light and easy walking in the small towns and country around the Zurich area or further afield in Germany. we are travelling by train or bus. Is Interlaken very mountainous. Was thinking of going there but worried that the trail might be too daunting for my injured leg. any suggestions or tips will be welcome...be they for accomodation or transport. many thanks
My family is planning to vist Switerland this coming Christmas. We will be landing at Zurich International airport and would be staying in Zurich for a few days, then travel by train or Coach (bus) to Lucerne. Stay there for a couple of days then we wish to go to Davos for the beautiful scenery and snow. Is there direct train or a coach service from Lucerne to Davos? Then from Davos to the Zurich International airport?
I am a student looking for cheap transportation from Zurich Airport to ETH Zurich. I will have too many bags (a bike plus 3 bags) to carry to the train, but I have heard that the taxi fare is expensive. Are there any shuttle services or other options that are cheaper than taxis? Thanks!
I will be in Zurich for a very short time (12 hours) and would like to know how to get to Mt. Pilatus from the Zurich airport, since I will be arriving in the afternoon and will be too late in the day to book a day tour. What is the cheapest and most enjoyable route so that I can take a lot of pictures of the scenery?
One more thing that I need to ask is that if I want to go to the Bahnhofplatz which side of the Zurich HB station should I exit from? And for the Sihlquai bus station as well. I understand that these are on opposite sides of Zurich HB. So should I walk through Zurich HB to reach Suhlquai from Bahnhofplatz even if I do not need to board a train or is there any other way to do that?
Can someone please tell me if there are any supermarkets near the Zurich HB train station or near the Letzigrund tram station where one can buy some grocery like bread, milk, eggs, etc???? And if not then where can someone buy these things and how to reach there???
Hi! We are flying into Zurich on 13th Oct and would like to experience part of Switzerland and part of Italy. Do you think we are being too adventurous trying to get from Zurich to Venice and back in 7 days? I will be travelling with my husband and 10month old daughter so we are renting a car rather than hopping on and off trains but we don't want to spend the whole time in the car which may happen if that distance is just too great and there is too much to see along the way. Any suggested places we must see heading from Zurich to Venice, I think Lake Como is a must but what part of Lake Como would you recommend to stay? What about Chur, Lugano, Valle Maggia? Any accomodation recommendations in these places? I am not sure what order makes sense either and whether it is worth it to push getting to Venice or to turn around before that????
Has anyone gone on the Mount Pilatus Summer Day Trip from Zurich? I am planning to book my parents on this tour. They both are 60+ and would prefer not to walk up and down slopes during their trip. Can anyone tell me how much one has to walk on this tour? And that whether there is any walking to be done from the aerial cable car which takes one to the top of the Mount Pilatus.
Also the tour includes site seeing in Lucerne like the Lion Monument, Chapel Bridge and Jesuit Church. So again the same question - how much does one has to walk up and down slopes for these sites.
My parents dont have much problem in walking but they may get tired pretty easily if it has to be done on slopes as that is more tiring. Hence these points are pretty important for me to select a tour for them.
Does anybody know of a good website that I can use to find a cheap flight from Zurich to Salzburg?
I used a website to search for flights last year that was pretty basic and showed all the airlines with the cheapest airfares but I lost my bookmarks and I can’t find it anymore. is anyone familiar with a good website to search for cheap airfares in Europe?
I will be travelling to Switzerland for 4 complete days, arriving in Zurich. I would like to reach Geneve in for days, and then i will have flight back from Zurich again. I was thinking about stopping somewhere in between Zurich and Geneve. Could you suggest me some places for thes 2 days in between? Is the train the most suitable means? Should i buy a direct ticket to Geneve or a special one stopping for instance in Friburg, Bern, Neuchatel...
