We will be driving from Zurich into central Switzerland across to Italy and back to Geneva. To save time, we would like to rent a garmin or tomtom GPS to get us through the cities. What is the cost of rental per day/week please?

Zürich Must-See Things in Zurich
Posted: Sun July 6, 2008 10:11 AM UTC
Hi all,

I'm going to be in Zurich from the 22 - 26 December this year. Taking travel time into account (I'm coming by train from france, and then leaving by train to italy), I'll only have 3 full days, which includes xmas day, when a lot of things will obviously be shut.

So.. considering I dont have much time.. what are some of the top things I should see? I don't mind travelling to other cities like Lucerne for a day trip if there are good things there. Any suggestions?

Oh, and does anyone know if any chocolate factories do tours anymore? Or is it true that they have all stopped this due to OH+S reasons?

Thanks!

One more question:

are there luggage lockers at Zurich HB? We would need to leave our cabin luggage there for few hours so we can enjoy our walk through the city.

Thanks for taking time to view (and hopefully) answer my question!

Zürich Which train ticket?
Posted: Mon June 23, 2008 05:01 AM UTC
Hi there,

I'm landing in Zurich soon and would like to spend the morning in the town before heading to Konstanz. Which train ticket to buy and which connection to choose? Can I buy ticket to Konstanz via Zurich? Do you have any idea about the price (for two adults and two kids)?

Also, can I but tickets at the airport using Euros, or need to exchange to Swiss CHF? Any tips on where to buy some Appenzeller and Greyerzer and what price to expect there?

I appreciate your help!

Zürich Elipsos Train (overnight train Zurich to Barcelona - and Barcelona to Paris)
Posted: Wed June 18, 2008 12:07 PM UTC
Hello all,

I'm booking this train between these cities (Pau Casals train from Zurich, and Joan Miro from Barcelona) and am taking my child onboard.

Elipsos have said I can book a double cabin here in Australia (since Australian sites are useless for booking an adult and a child sharing), and then pay the supplement for the child directly onboard.

Has anyone done this or does anyone know how to do this? Obviously I assume I would have to purchase it from somewhere BEFORE boarding the train, so can you let me know where in Zurich I purchase this from? And also where in Barcelona? Do I just go to the train station where we depart from, and say to the ticket person I want to add a child supplement to my already booked tickets?

Thanks so much all.

Zürich Passport stamps
Posted: Tue June 17, 2008 08:17 PM UTC
I'm sure people have answered this before but here it is..

If I fly into Switzerland and then take a train to Germany, will they stamp my passport in Germany? I would have to think so since im ENTERING the EU..? But then when I enter Austria (by train) would it get stamped (probably not, right?)

I'm trying to see how I can get my passport stamped in each western european country after I land in Switzerland.

Thanks!

Zürich Hello everyone and Greetings from Malaysia :)
Posted: Mon June 9, 2008 09:42 AM UTC
Hi there all virtualtourist,

My name is Thomas Look and I hail from Malaysia which is located in South East Asia. My hometown is in Selangor which is about 45 mins drive from our nation's capital Kuala Lumpur.

I will be travelling to Zurich next month (July 2008) on a business cum honeymoon with my wife. I would like some estimated on the prices of things in Zurich so that I may budget my visit there. I will have no problems with accomadations and food as we will be staying at the company's hostel where by all basic ammenities will be provided for.

I would love to know how much does Omega, IWC or Tag Heuer timepiecs retails for averagely. I am looking at a budget of about CHF 1000 per piece so will I be able to buy any watches from these retailers?

I would also love to get an upgrade on the wedding ring that I bought for my wife and would appreciate any recommendations and price on jewellery. I had heard a lot about swiss chocolets nad are dying for some so any recommendations where I may get some?

I look forward to you kind replies and suggestions.

Warmest regards,
Thomas

Zürich A nite in Zurich...
Posted: Sat May 31, 2008 04:34 PM UTC
Hello!

I will be having a layover for one nite in Zurich on a Wednesday evening (7pm) until noon the next day (late July). I've never been to Switzerland, and as such, would love to see/experience whatever I can in such a short period of time. I'll likely stay at a hostel in the most lively part of town (...does it get lively on a Wednesday?) I would very much appreciate any suggestions on anything that should not be missed in such a short time (and can be done in the evening) -Thanks so very much guys & happy travels!

Zürich Day-trips from Zurich (Please Suggest!)
Posted: Thu May 15, 2008 09:02 AM UTC
Dear Virtual Tourists,

I'm planning a trip to Switzerland and I intend to use Zurich and Geneva as base camps from where I set off on day-trips to nearby cities/villages. What are some of the must-see villages surrounding Zurich? Is transportation well-connected? And how affordable will internal train fares be, from Zurich to a neaby village?

Thanks guys!

Zürich Morning in Zurich
Posted: Wed May 14, 2008 07:59 PM UTC
Hi,

I will be flying through Zurich, and I will have six and a half hours between my flights (between 6:30 am and 1:00 pm), so I was thinking of leaving the airport and spend a few hours in the city. Is there anything anyone can recommend to do during that time? Any cool breakfast places in town or something like that?

Thanks!

Zürich Austrian Leather Goods
Posted: Wed March 5, 2008 02:40 PM UTC
When I was in Zurich about 6 months ago, I happened into a shop that sold leather goods (shoes and bags--mostly mens as I recall). The designer was Austrian and the shop was right on the river (on the bahnhofstrasse side). I cannot for the life of me remember the name of the designer and cannot locate the designer on the web as a result. I was hoping someone might know.

Thanks

Zürich Overnight trains: Zurich to Barcelona / Barcelona to Paris
Posted: Mon February 25, 2008 08:33 AM UTC
Hello all,

I am rather confused in regards to the Pau Casals night train which travels from Zurich to Barcelona.

On the elipsos site, it states we can have our child (aged 6) share a double room in the sleeper with us, for a small supplement.

Here in Australia the rail agents do not know a thing and are saying I cannot do this, and I have to book out a T4 compartment, saying I have two adults and two children travelleing. They also say the T4 is a single sex compartment (?!) and therefore we cannot have our family travelling together. Basically they are trying to sell us a double room club class, and a first class single room.

My question is has anyone travelled on an overnight train betweem ZUR and BAR for 2 adults and 1 child and did you book out a whole T4 sleeper room? Or were you able to use the double class and have your child share in there with you?

We are also doing another overnight train from Barcelona to Paris, so need the same info for that trip.

I must admit the train sites are not very helpful here in Oz!

Thanks for your help.

Zürich Luggages on Tram
Posted: Tue January 15, 2008 08:14 AM UTC
Hi

I am deciding whether to take a tram from Zurich main train station to the hotel or walk a distance of estimated 10 to 15 minutes.

Can anyone kindly advise:

1. Is taking the tram easy/feasible with 1 suitcase?(not the cabin size type but the standard size that is meant for check in)I'll be reaching Zurich in the evening and worried that the trams may be packed.

Help will be much appreciated.
