Zermatt From St Gallens to Zermatt with an interrail pass
Posted: Thu October 29, 2009 04:02 AM UTC
hi

I'm thinking of making a day trip for st gallens to zermatt and back next sunday. I know the train rides are crazy but I heard the matterhorn is gorgerous so I want to see it. and i only have 3 days in switzerland. I'm thinking of taking the 6+am train which should get me in zermatt by 12 and then going back in the evening. my question is.

1) I bought an interrail card to use for my trip. Does it have any train restrictions in terms of timing etc? (i.e peak/off peak). Also do I have to make a booking for this journey? and does the interrail pass cover my entire journey? or is part of it own by a private railway

2) To view the matterhorn, I understand there are three viewing points. With my time constraint, and having the interrail card ( I understand I only get a discount for the gornegrat and not the other two), what would be your best recommendation?

Many thanks for all your help!

Hi, I'm planning a trip to Zermatt in Oct. I read that most things are closed in Zermatt from Oct to mid-Nov. Is this true? Are there still things to do in Zermatt during that time? I'm planning to stay 3 nights in Zermatt. Thanks.

Zermatt skiing in sept
Posted: Sun August 30, 2009 07:26 PM UTC
hello,
my husband and i are spending the first weekend in sept. in zermatt. we have never been to the alps and were wondering what ski conditions were like in early sept. on the zermatt webpage, they said they have glacier skiing at 4000 meters (12000 ft). my husband and i both ski raced in college and would love to try skiing at this time of year. is it worth 75 chf a person and does this price include the lifts up to get from zermatt to the glacier? also, at this altitude, what is the weather/temp like at this time of year? would we need to bring full ski gear (i.e. coats, long underwear and ski pants). thank in advance for your help!
cheers!

Zermatt Trains and Christmas in Zermatt
Posted: Wed August 12, 2009 09:38 PM UTC
My fiance and I are planning a trip skiing then windsurfing for our honeymoon (imagine the packing!). We will need to get from Zermatt to Geneva by train by 10am on 26th Dec: BOXING DAY!!! The SBB timetable isn't published that far ahead as yet but it has been suggested by the Swiss Tourist Board that the timetable will be a Sunday timetable (which currently would get us to the airport in Geneva on time).

Does anyone have any experience of the timetables/making this journey on a public holiday? We would obviously hate to be stranded and appreciate any advice!

Thanks!

Zermatt Accomodation, food, and activities in Zermatt.
Posted: Wed July 15, 2009 01:27 AM UTC
I am from malaysia and i will be following my parents to europe for the first 10 days trip. They saw Zermatt review and likes there very much.
Due to time matters we just allow to stay 2 nights in Zermatt.
The 3rd morning we will leave early morning to Italy.
4 persons, me(youth) my grandma (senior citizen) and my parents.
i been looking ard for all the websites and i found most of them request for a minimum 3nights to 1 weeks stay.
so this is my question.

- is there any cheap Apartments/Chalet allow us just to stay 2 nights? And which apartment is it?
- how much usually will per meal cost us for per person if we eating out there?
- what else can we do in Zermatt if we not goin there for ski? will there be have snow near by? *sorry for the stupid question because my country 4 seasons also summer*

Will appreciate for the helps with reply. Thanks

Hi guys! My husband and I will be arriving in Zermatt at around 3:30pm on July 18. Ive read a lot of good things about matterhorn & gornegrat. Is it possible to visit the 2 peaks in 1 day? Also, what time is the last schedule of the train that goes up to either matterhorn or gornegrat? I'm thinking of getting a night train from Paris on the evening of July 17. If im lucky enough to get a ticket for that,i will be arriving in geneva at around 12noon and Im thinking of doine either peaks as soon as ive settled in the hotel. Hope to hear from you guys. Would greatly appreciate any input. =)

Zermatt help on 1day itinerary
Posted: Fri June 12, 2009 07:28 AM UTC
Hi. we will be arriving in zermatt by train from paris on July 18 at around 4pm. we were able to book an overnight stay in Le Petit Hotel. Is there an evening schedule for trains from zermatt-geneva? We plan to stay in zermatt until the evening of july 19. If we had only a few hours to go up the mountains to walk on some snow on july 19, which mountain would you suggest us to go - gornegrat or matterhorn? we don't intend to ski, we just want to walk on some ice/snow. =)
thanks for your help.

Zermatt Is zermatt worth going to in july?
Posted: Wed May 27, 2009 10:34 AM UTC
Hi all! My husband and I will be in Geneva from Paris on July 17. Our flight back to the Philippines is early morning of July 21. Since we both come from a very warm/no winter country. we would like to see some snow. Is zermatt worth seeing for a day? We're in a tight budget and so I'm trying very hard maximize everything we've got. Is it possible to just do a day trip in zematt from geneva(to save on hotel accommodations) since i believe it's very expensive there? Which mountain would you suggest us to see if we're only given a day (either a day trip or just overnight) in zermatt? We don't intend to ski, we just want to walk on some ice/snow. Lastly, how much is the train fare from geneva to zermatt? Hope to hear from you guys!

Saas-Fee Outside Crucifixes in Saas Fee
Posted: Tue May 26, 2009 07:46 PM UTC
Does anyone know the symbolism of the many items hanging on the outside crucifixes in Saas Fee? I have heard, only, that the rooster is a reminder that Peter would deny Christ by the time the rooster crowed three times. There is a hand, a small hammer, other tools, a rising sun, a side view of the sun, some "swords", a ladder, and much more.

Zermatt Any cheap accommodations for 2 in zermatt for 2 nights?
Posted: Mon May 25, 2009 04:22 PM UTC
My husband and i are planning to go to switzerland in mid of july. Our reason for going? We just want to see some glaciers! We're not into skiing but a trek in the snow would be great. We're in a tight budget so i hope you guys could suggest a 2 - 3 star hotel for us to stay in for 2 nights. Also, we will be coming from paris. Which is the best way for us to get to zermatt that is less expensive, a flight to geneva or should we just ride a train? Hope to hear from you guys!

Zermatt Snowboarding (and skipasses) in Zermatt
Posted: Thu February 19, 2009 09:18 AM UTC
Hi fellow white powder lovers,

March 2009 would be my first time snowboarding in Zermatt.
Could boarders give me some pointers ?

* Which places would be good for powder (assuming a recent storm/snowfall) ?
* Which places/runs should I avoid (e.g., flats) ?
* Any workshops that should be avoided/frequent for base maintenance/vaxing ?
* Any other tips ?

My snowboarding style is freeride (all mountain) at an advanced level.

Also, I googled, but could not find any discounts for Zermatt's skipasses.
Are prices in http://www.ski-zermatt.com/skipass.html "cast in stone", and are there ways to get discounts ?

Thanks and bye,
Ron.

Zermatt Matterhorn - which is better to go, Klein Matterhorn or Gonergrat or Rothorn?
Posted: Wed December 3, 2008 04:41 AM UTC
Hello,

I only have one day for sightseeing the famous Matterhorn. No plan for ski, etc. any sports activities. Just simple sightseeing.

I heard there are 4 options for the sightseeing: Klein Matterhorn, Gonergrat, Schwarzsee, and Rothorn. With the time restrains, if I can only go with one option, which would you recommend and the reason?

Is it worth to rush everything and squeeze in 2? if so, what's the 2nd I should go?

Thank you.

Zermatt Naples to Zermatt -- Transportation and Lodging questions
Posted: Thu November 20, 2008 02:33 AM UTC
Hello -- I'm from the US and have a business trip to Naples Italy in early December. I have several questions:

1) is skiing in Zermatt good in early December?

2) if yes -- how best should I get from Naples to Zermatt?

3) how long will it take to travel from Naples to Zermatt?

4) where should I stay for lodging?

5) can you easily rent equipment at or near the slopes?

6) What else should I know?

By the way -- I'm an inexperienced traveler but a highly skilled skier. I want to maximize my time on aggressive trails -- night life is not really what I'm after. I'll just want an inexpensive place to crash at night...

Zermatt Anyone knows of accomdation with wellness centre NOT expensive here?
Posted: Thu November 13, 2008 06:37 PM UTC
IM looking for a hotel/apartment with outdoor jacuzzis - but Im on a budget and prefer to not spend over 140 CHF per night. I would also consider other advice on any other Hot Springs IF its located beside a ski resort which must be open during 8-12th December - i was gonna stay in Leukerbad but found out all winter activities and skiing is closed until the 13th and Im already back home then - please any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks so much,

Verbier December ski trip
Posted: Mon September 1, 2008 10:59 AM UTC
Hi,

Four of us would like to do a short ski trip to Verbier, departing Gatwick on the 26th December. We're thinking of going away for 5 days. As the chalets and other accom are geared for one week trips, we're not sure where to stay. We'll be using a hire car from Geneva, so we don't have to stay in the middle of the resort. We'd like to keep costs to a minimum.

Many thanks in advance :)

When I got the directions from the Google map I noticed that at Kandersteg Goppenstein we have to board our car on the train to Ferden.

Can please someone confirm that this is the best way to arrive to Zermatt (Tash)and any ideas how much the train costs?

Thanks alot !

Canton du Valais Saas-Fee December accommodation
Posted: Tue July 29, 2008 11:33 AM UTC
Hi,
I am trying to find accommodation in Saas-Fee for the following dates 28 Dec 08 to 1 Jan 09, but I cannot find a single place online that seems to be available for those dates. I have come across the following messages - term of stay needs to be longer (7 or 10 nights), the day of arrival (Sunday) is not a check-in day. Unfortunately due to our schedule and time-constraints we cannot extend the length of our stay, or change dates. My dilemma - what to do? We really wanted to spend these last days in a ski-resort. Have I left it too late to find accommodation? Can anyone recommend another place - we are flying out of Geneva on the 1st January so it needs to be within a half-days travel distance.
Thanks in advance,
Anna

Zermatt Klein Matterhorn queues
Posted: Tue July 15, 2008 09:04 AM UTC
Hi!
I'm planning to go to Zermatt for just one day in one week (at the end of July).
I will come to Zermatt at 11 AM (return is at 6 PM). I would like to visit the Matterhorn glacier paradise and I would like to know what is the situation with queues for cableways which lead to the Klein Matterhorn.
I would like to know if I have enough time to go up with the cableway and to walk
around the city for 7 hours of my staying.
Thanks in advance!

Zermatt travelling from Zermatt from Interlaken
Posted: Sun April 13, 2008 02:49 AM UTC
Hi,

I'm planning to make my way from Interlaken in the late afternoon to Zermat.
In a nutshell , I'm wondering how do I get there ? I have a Eurail pass.
...and what's the latest time I should be going ?
I hope the hotels accept late checkins in the late evening ?

Some tips please on nice clean, budget accomodation in Zermatt (hopefully within walking distance for me to take the Glacier Express train - where is it by the way ?)

Any nice spot for me to go see the Matterhorn early in the morning ? The glacier Express train leaves about 10am, so i have some hours there, I plan to wake up at 6.30am.

thanks!
