Posted: Thu July 2, 2009 11:22 PM UTC
i am traveling with 4 young women (yes, i am inded very lucky) and we are wondering how much it costs to store luggage at the geneva train station for a few hours while we tour the city. other suggestions (besides the train station) would be welcome as long as they are near the city centre. we are in geneva tomorrow so a quick reply would be most appreciated.

Switzerland Travel from Geneva Airport to Saas fee
Posted: Wed July 1, 2009 01:40 PM UTC
We are a party of 8 who need to arrange transport from Geneva Airport to Saas Fee and then 2 weeks later back to Geneva Airport. We have been quoted over £1,000 for an airport return transfer but feel this is rather a lot of money (taxi in England for similair amount of miles is £95 return!).

Has anybody got any suggestions - recommended companies or has anyone taken the train and bus - if so how did you find it? My husband is keen to have a stress free journey but I think over £1,000 is way too much to pay for a taxi transfer. Any ideas or advice gratefully received, thanks

Lausanne Parking outside Lausanne
Posted: Tue June 30, 2009 03:02 PM UTC
We will be meeting friends for one night in Lausanne. Research indicates that Lausanne is not car friendly, so we'd hope to leave the hired care somewhere safe and travel into town and our hotel by public transport. It's all new to us, so any suggestions - parking in suburbs, nearby towns, etc - as to where we could leave the car without it all ending in tears would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Research indicates that Lausanne is not car friendly, and I've a few too many hysterical dinner-time stories already about car parking and the extraordinary things it does to blood pressure and to normally polite people's language. Any suggestions - parking garages in suburbs, nearby towns, etc - as to where we could leave the car without it turning into mayhem would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Switzerland Prepaid 3G/UMTS Data SIM card/tarif
Posted: Mon June 29, 2009 12:59 PM UTC
Hi Everybody,
I'm looking for a prepaid UMTS/3G data sim card and tarif.
Something like a flat rate for 24hrs 100MB would be good,
typical tourist use. I read in some forums about the Sunrise
"t@ke away prepaid" deal, SIM card for CHF20 and CHF3 for
1hour/100MB. That would do at a pinch (though the 1 hour
seems a little stingy), but I can't find that on the website,
it only refers to the deal with UMTS USB stick (which I don't
need) for CHF99, and that seems to be only for swiss residents.
Does anyone know if the SIM card only version is available for
tourists in the Sunrise shops? Other forum postings suggest it
is (or was), but so far they haven't answered my email.

Alternatively perhaps someone also knows of a better offer for
mobile internet in .ch? Many thanks in advance.

Zürich Transport from Zurich to Lucerne, Lucerne to Davos
Posted: Mon June 29, 2009 05:05 AM UTC
Dear all,

My family is planning to vist Switerland this coming Christmas. We will be landing at Zurich International airport and would be staying in Zurich for a few days, then travel by train or Coach (bus) to Lucerne. Stay there for a couple of days then we wish to go to Davos for the beautiful scenery and snow. Is there direct train or a coach service from Lucerne to Davos? Then from Davos to the Zurich International airport?

Thank you.

Zürich Is there cheap transportation from Zurich Airport to ETH Zurich? Too many bags for train!
Posted: Sun June 28, 2009 10:19 PM UTC
Hi everyone:

I am a student looking for cheap transportation from Zurich Airport to ETH Zurich. I will have too many bags (a bike plus 3 bags) to carry to the train, but I have heard that the taxi fare is expensive. Are there any shuttle services or other options that are cheaper than taxis? Thanks!

Geneva Cheap Accommodations
Posted: Tue June 23, 2009 04:12 AM UTC
Hello!

My husband and I will be in Geneva Septemeber 7 - September 11. We are trying to find a nice place to stay for under USD $120. We will take a hotel, apartment, or hostel, as long as it is reasonably priced and is not a complete dump. If we stay in a hostel, we need to have a private room, as opposed to a dorm style room.

We would like to stay as close to the city center as possible. But, as long as we are close to public transportation (a must), then we should be okay.

Any suggestions you can offer would be greatly appreciated! Also, if you can tell us some of the better areas (zip codes) to stay in, that would be very helpful.

Thanks, and Happy Travels!

Grindelwald Travel in Grindelwald & Interlaken region
Posted: Mon June 22, 2009 04:21 PM UTC
We are going for our first trip to Switzerland - a seven day trip & we will be based in Grindelwald. We want to explore and enjoy this and the nearby areas rather than travelling to all corners of Switzerland during the trip (an exception might be Zermat since my friend is keen to visit it).

I believe the best travel option is the Swiss Card which will cover the return trip from Zurich airport to Grindelwald and give us 50% discount on all other fare. Any ideas if this is the most economical thing to do?

Also is it cheaper to buy items like the Swiss Card and Swiss Pass outside Switzerland? We heard that to promote tourism, lower rates/discount is given if purchased outside Switzerland.

I would be grateful for any advise and help with this.

Interlaken Jungfrau:how cold will it be inside?
Posted: Sun June 21, 2009 12:03 AM UTC
We will be visiting Jungfrau in mid-August. My partner does not particularly care for cold temperature because we are from Southern California. Will the time spend during the train ride, Ice Caves, Observation buildings, etc be comfortable for an average person. How cold will it be if my partner remain inside?

Hey everybody, thanks for your past advices, very helpful indeed. I have another question now, more mundande than the previous ones: is there a flower store in GVA airport? let alone, can you carry flowers in the aircraft? I've never done it before, so I don't know what the regulations are.

Thanks a lot.

Switzerland One week in Switzerland :)
Posted: Fri June 19, 2009 10:09 AM UTC
Dear Fellow Vter’s,

We (4 adults) have planned a one week travel (28 june to 4th july) for Switzerland and would love to hear about your suggestions and ideas to further improve our trip and experience. 4 persons include me and my wife and our parents.

We will be arriving Basel airport on 28th june at 10.05 am. And we have made Grindelwald as our base camp for Bernese-Oberland region. We are thinking to start from Beatenberg and take the aerial cable way of Neiderhorn…and then head towards Grindelwald and if left with some more time then may be spend at Interlaken and then head to Grindelwald.

On 29th of june we are thinking to go to “FIRST”. And me and my wife thinking to do Bchalpsee hiking. And other half of the day or may be evening we can go to Kleine Scheidegg.

On 30th of June we are thinking to go to Schilthorn. And visit other near by towns like Wengen , Lauterbrunnen. I have a question about Lauterbrunnen:::::Since town is surrounded by mountain and situated in a valley…what time of the day would be best to go there to have nice views of valley etc.?

On 1st of July we will take Golden Pass line from Interlaken to Montreaux. And then we will head to Valais region (may be a stop over at Champex-Lac) and stay at Zermatt.

On 2nd of july we are thinking to go to “Gornergrat”. May be St. Niklaus in the evening. Any short hiking idea?

On 3rd of July we are planning to take Glacier Express and will stay at Pontresina. Open to suggestions about taking regular train and making stops in between….

On 4th of july we go to “Diavolezza” and then head (may be a stop over at Lucerne) to Basel and on 5th we have our return flight.

I would like to thank you for looking at my post and for giving your valuable input.

Best,
Somendra

Then, on Sunday 6, I have to go back tothe GVA airport to catch an flight to Berlin.

I appreciate your help.

Switzerland 5 days trip to Switzerland
Posted: Sun June 14, 2009 10:58 AM UTC
Dear All,

I am planning a 5 day trip to Switzerland in 1st week of July 09. I am flying into Zurich and leaving from Geneva with the following itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival in Zurich at 9 AM. Sightseeing in Zurich till 5 PM. I am not planning to spend much time in Zurich. Not sure what places should must visit. I am least interested in museums etc. Please advice.

I will be leaving for Lucern at 5 PM by train. As summer days are long, I will get some time to walk by Lucern. Overnight stay in Lucern.

Day 2: A day trip to Engelberg / Titlis. I am not sure whether I will have some more time to spend after I am back to Lucern from Titlis.

Day 3: Leave for Interlaken and visit Jungfrauch.

Day 4: Early morning, leave for Chur by train. Glacier express from Chur to Zermatt. Overnight stay in Zermatt.

Day 5: Leave for Lausanne by train and spent some time in the older part of the city. Accordingly I can leave for Geneva airport as I am fling back at 8:25 PM.

Let me know your suggestions in this. Also, please suggest few places within Lucern, Interlakenl Lausanne and Geneva which are worth a visit.

Wengen Car parking in Lauterbrunnen / day trips
Posted: Sun June 14, 2009 10:24 AM UTC
I can pre-book car parking in Lauterbrunnen for 7 days. If I do so, can I take my car in and out of the car park, or do I have to pay on each entry/exit?

NB I've researched relative prices of Jungfraubahnen and Berneroberland train passes, and it will be better for us to get the Jungfraubahnen pass and take the car for one longer trip.

Zürich Zurich - Mt. Pilatus
Posted: Sat June 13, 2009 03:01 AM UTC
Hello,

I will be in Zurich for a very short time (12 hours) and would like to know how to get to Mt. Pilatus from the Zurich airport, since I will be arriving in the afternoon and will be too late in the day to book a day tour. What is the cheapest and most enjoyable route so that I can take a lot of pictures of the scenery?

I appreciate any suggestions. Thank you

Interlaken Basel ---> Interlaken ---> Jungfrau
Posted: Fri June 12, 2009 01:01 PM UTC
Me and my husband are planning a trip to Interlaken via Basel (because there is a flight offer). Any advice are appreciated:

Our plans are:

Basel - 1 day
Interlaken - 2 days
Jungfrau - 1 day
Back to Basel then London

Does that sound reasonable? We are not young so would prefer to take it easy.

What would you suggest for the rail pass pls? I looked up the Swiss Rail site but am not sure if we should get the 50% off card instead.

What would you suggest when we stay at Interlaken?

Many thanks

Basel Night train from Milan to Germany and the Netherlands - does it stop at Basel?
Posted: Thu June 11, 2009 06:55 PM UTC
Hello.

I have a somewhat weird question to ask you.

There is a night train from Milan to a number of German cities continuing to the Netherlands as well. However, the timetable suggests that it only services German stations in the early morning. I know that many night trains have "maintenance stops" here and there and they spend a lot of time waiting unannounced at some stations during the night. It would be very convenient for me to get off at Basel or nearby, say Freiburg or somewhere in Northern Switzerland in the middle of the night (don't ask why, it's complicated to explain). That is why I wanted to ask you if somebody noticed this train stopping at unannounced train stations. Or do you know whom I can ask? I guess nobody would mind if I am getting OFF the train (rather than getting on, which is a problem for some night trains).

Thank you in advance
