Constitution day in Bergen Posted: Fri November 6, 2009 07:21 PM UTC
My sister will arrive in Bergen with the Hurtigruten on 17.5.2010 - landing at 14:30. Will there still be Constitution Day parades or celebrations that she can see in the afternoon?

Famous Rifle Marksman from Sogndal Posted: Fri November 6, 2009 11:47 AM UTC
Greetings to all. In 2001 I visited Sogndal on the way to Balestrand and spent several hours walking around town. I noticed a statue or monument ( I cannot remember exactly which ) commemorating a famous Norwegian Rifle Marksman. I would like to learn more about this man. Can anyone tell me more about this, name picture etc. Thanks

Norway rats? Posted: Tue November 3, 2009 06:04 AM UTC
If I hike through the forests and glades, say from Oslo to Trondheim, how likely am I to see (a) Norway rat(s)? Do they ever hide under the spruce trees? Are rat bites a common problem in Norway? Thanks!

ferry crossings Posted: Fri October 30, 2009 10:03 AM UTC
How many times a day does the ferry leave from Bodo to the Lofoten islands, and what are the times? We wish to get to Reine on the Lofotens and we will be without a car. We understand we can catch a bus from the ferry terminal to Reine. And what time does the ferry leave the islands to go back to Bodo? I cant seem to find ferry times anywhere and book them?

None of us has been to Oslo before, so what would you suggest we do for the day on the Saturday?
And where would be good to eat that night?

Hotel in bergen Posted: Thu October 8, 2009 05:07 PM UTC
Hi everyone,
We will rent a car at the Bergen airport for 1 week. Our final destination is Aurland. Which hotel do you recommend in Bergen for 1 night. Easy access to downtown and not too difficult to get overnight parking. FYI, early June 2010 is the date for this trip.

What to do in Hell Posted: Wed September 23, 2009 11:27 AM UTC
We will be going to Trondheim in November and thought of visiting Hell while there, since it is not far from Trondheim. The question is, what are the things to do in Hell. Are there some public transports from the train station to the city center? We will be arriving on a Sunday, so I presume that everything is closed, but are there some museums that we can go to? I couldn't find a website regarding the place that is why I thought I'd ask my fellow vters for advice.
Thanks.

Getting to Borgund stave church from the NSB Posted: Tue September 22, 2009 03:37 PM UTC
I hope to visit the stave church in Borgund in early October, as a stop off during the NSB train ride from Oslo to Bergen. I think (but am not sure) that the NSB stops in Myrdal, and that the Borgund stave church is accessible from there, but once in Myrdal didn't know the logistics on how to reach the church or how long it would take. Can anyone help on this? Thanks!

SOVE/Sleeping train Posted: Wed September 16, 2009 12:09 AM UTC
Has anyone already experienced SOVE aboard the NSB? 'just about to book a trip but couldn't find enough pictures on the accommodation itself. Is there a toilet inside the cabin? Do you have a key to your cabin? Is it worth taking a SOVE for a 7-hour ride?
Are the Standard seats at NSB night trains comfortable enough?
Thank you so much for your responses.

Hallo,
we will travel to Tromsø from Italy - hoping to see the northern light - and will arrive on Nov 27th for 2 nights
Some suggestion about not expensive accomodation (hotel, B&B) or a private house ?
We can exchange our stay in Tromsø with some days in our house in Verona
Thanks

Oslo Galleriat Posted: Fri September 11, 2009 05:13 PM UTC
Hi
I am trying to book the swedbus from Stockholm to oslo but it says that it stops at Oslo Galleriat. Could anyone confirm that this Oslo Galleriat is different from the Oslo -S (main railway station) as I would be taking the nutshell tour immediately after arrival.
On the other hand, if it stops at Oslo Galleriat, can anyone tell me the directions to reach Oslo-S from Oslo Galleriat?
Thank you!

Norway in a nutshell Posted: Thu September 10, 2009 09:03 AM UTC
I'm planning to join "Norway in a nutshell" one-way from Oslo to Bergen train tour . I'm thinking of spending a night or 2 along the way, maybe at Flam (1 night) and Voss (1 night).
Will it be worthwhile to do that?
While I am there, what activities is recommended?
Will there be any discount?
Thx

Safe at night? Posted: Fri September 4, 2009 10:07 PM UTC
hi,
I'll be in Tromso in winter and am planning to do a couple of organised tours (Lights chasing!), which all seem to pick up/drop off at the Raddison SAS hotel. I'm staying at the Clarion With hotel, which looking at the maps is less than 5 minutes walk away. Is it safe for a woman to walk between the two hotels alone after midnight?
Also, is Tromso generally safe for women travelling alone? (I read about a rape incident in the Warnings tips but as the poster appears to have made no other tips or logged in since I'm not sure whether it was a genuine warning)
thanks.

Route from Bergen to Stavanger Posted: Wed September 2, 2009 01:49 PM UTC
Hi everyone
I will be going to Norway for 9 days from next weekend. I am going to be in Oslo for a couple of days and then getting the train from Oslo to Bergen which gets in at 3pm on the Sunday.
I just wanted some ideas of how to plan the remaining week. I think we'll stay 3 nights in Bergen (the first night as we get there quite late, the second day tour of Sognefjord and then third day proper look around around Bergen).
I know we''l need to be in Stavanger to fly back the following Sunday so I guess we'll try and be in Stavanger for the Friday to do one day visit of Stavanger and one day to Preikestolen.
I know that's quite long winded but what ideas are there for the Wednesday and Thursday in the middle.
Is it best to hire a car and drive down thorugh fjords and if so which ones? Are there better things to see around Bergen and so stay there longer and then maybe fly down to Stavanger?
Any tips/ideas would be much appreciated.
Thanks VTers

Travelling in Norway in October Posted: Sun August 30, 2009 01:42 PM UTC
Hi!
I would be going to Stockholm for work and would be visiting Norway for 5-6 days from 4 to 9 October. I was hoping to travel around the Fjords, for trekking and photography. I was hoping to stay in the Youth Hostels, travel on buses and trains and eventually flying out of Oslo on the last day. However, I realised that some of the hostels and tours are already closed at this time (for winter). I am now trying to plan my itinerary.
1. What is a possible route to go from 4th oct to 8 Oct (back to Oslo)
2. May I know if the climate is too cold to be trekking in the Fjords in October? Is travel in the Fjords still as accessible in October without a car?
3. I planned to take a train from Oslo to Flam and take a cruise from Flam to the Fjords - is this possible?
4. WOuld Bergen be good to visit in October (still a lot of rainfall?)
5. Is it a good idea to take a flight from Bergen back to Oslo instead of the return trip on the train?
Hope any of you could offer some advice.
Thanks!
