I am visiting amritsar in next week.
I remember one of my punjabi friends had told me about shops near golden temple which stitch patiala pants of salwar kameez in 1 hour.
I am very much interested in buying or getting a patiala pant stitched over there.
I tried googling about the same, but could not find any reference to it.
So could you guys please tell me if there are such shops selling material and stitching the patiala pants???
Thanx in advance!

I will be in Delhi and will continue on to Agra and then Varanasi. I wanted to take a sort of side trip for a day to Amritsar. I plan to leave via train or plane one evening and then the following evening heading out. i wanted to see if there was a way to bypass Delhi altogether and head right for Agra from Amritsar, or would I have to stop in Delhi and catch the train. In addition, are there only the 2 morning trains to agra I have seen advertised from Delhi?
Thanks!

Hello; I had hoped to take a luxury train from New Delhi, arriving in Amritsar about 115PM.I would then return to New Delhi at 5PM.A tour company told me that there would not be enough time to see the temple if I did that. How long does it take to get from the railway station to the temple? How long should I spend at the temple to truly enjoy it? Thank you...Bob

Looking for a dry, pleasant June destination linked by a discount airline from Dubai
I am going to spend the Springtime in Iran, and in June I am changing flights in Dubai to somewhere dry, and pleasant serviced by one of the discount airlines operating in the UAE.
My research shows Air Arabia flies to
Almaty, Kazakhstan (near beautiful Kyrgyzstan)
Lebanon
Nepal
All three of these destinations appeal to me but Nepal's rainy monsoon season begins in June, and I don't want to be there when it's raining.
Lebanon, and Kazakhstan have the nicest weather during summer, but I think Canadians need a visa to go to Kazakhstan, like a real visa (pre-arranged at the Kazakh embassy either in Tehran, or Dubai). Also, it sounds difficult to arrange, and really expensive. Does anyone know the cost of 1 month tourist visa for Canadians going to Kazakhstan? I am only interested in Almaty, and then I want to cross the border to Kyrgyz, then Uzbek, and Tajik. I'd like to do a little circle, and end up back in Almaty again, only because Air Arabia flies from there. I could also be interested in a land crossing entering Tibet, but I don't know if that's possible for foreigners. Regarding a Kazakh visa, perhaps a 3 day transit visa is enough? See Almaty, and then hop the border to Bishkek?
Air India Express flies Dubai to Amritsar, India, and I know India is HOT in June, but if I start in Amritsar, and head NORTH to Kashmir, maybe there is an international border/crossing (along with land transport) to Tibet? Of Course, then I need a Chinese visa/permit, and where to get that in Amritsar, or Kashmir?
If I go to India, I prefer to go high in altitude because it is June, and I don't want to be at sea level, especially in a big city like Mumbai or Dehli. I just hope Northwestern India is relatively dry in June.
Ok so Air Arabia, or Air India Express, and there are a couple other airlines flying to really HOT places like Phillipines, but since it's June, I didn't include any tropical destinations.
So, please let me know which destination you think is best for June, and then from there, into the Summer.
Lebanon, Almaty, Kazakhstan, or Nepal (rainy?) on AA
or Northwestern India on AIA
I also have the optionn of entering Turkmenistan, or Armenia by road after Iran (I think June could be a good time in either place), but Turkmenistan doesn't seem to have any Couchsurfers, which is how I travel. No hotels, ever.
Let me know your thoughts about June.

This place used to get some very good reviews but nothing that I can see that is recent. Is it still in operation and does anybody have any feedback on what it's like now. First entry I found was in an old Lonely Planet guide. Any feedback gratefully recieved. Excluding this I'm tempted to join the pilgrims at the golden temple itself. What is the position regarding leaving and returning to the dorms as I would probably want to wander off into the city for an evening meal. I'm assuming that there is a seperat enterance for the dorms as opposed to the temple?

Hi everyone,
I'm hoping to visit Amritsar for 2 days in Dec. I wonder if anyone has stayed in either of these hotels (Volga or Grand hotel) or any hotel which you would strongly recommend?
Budget: below USD 30
Room: Double (do we need A/C room in Dec?)
Looking for:
- Good service
- clean, comfortable rooms with window, don't need to be luxurious
- located near GT or central places with good eating places
Thanks!

I haven't been able to see if there are flights from Amritsar to Srinagar and what company operates them. I have seen flights from Jammu, but ideally I'd like to leave from Amritsar to save myself a night train ride... Thanks.

Hi,
I am taking the Golden Temple Express from Mumbai Central to Jalandhar City in mid-August....I've tried looking on Indian Railways website for an idea of what the air-con carriages are like (do they exsist??) Just wondered how unbareable the journey will be in the heat, or would it be a pleasant way to travel up??
Thanks,

Next February I'm landing at Amritsar airport at about 2pm and should be out of the airport by about 3-3.30pm. Is there are a taxi service or a bus service directly from the airport to Nakodar, which is about two-and-a-half hours away. Also, is it possible to pre-book these services and how much would I expect to pay? Thanks in advance.

Please can anyone advise of a decent clean hotel in Amritsar with a pool. I need a clean hotel as I will be visiting with my 1 year old daughter.
Please also can you advise is Amritsar the kind of place where people spend a couple of hours around the pool sunbathing, as if we look out of place, then I may as well look for a hotel without pool.
Thanks

I'm due to land at Delhi Indira Ghandi Airport at midnight at the end of October.
From the airport I'd like to get to Amritsar as quicky as possible.
I've read that there are bus connections from the Indira Ghandi Airport to Amritsar, but there's lack of detailed information about it on the internet. I've only found that there is probably an indocanadian bus which is running after every two hrs and the price is 25.00 USD
Has anybody traveled from the Delhi Airport do Amritsar directly?

I will be visiting India in March to watch the cricket. After the Mohali Test match I intend to travel by train to Amritsar to visit the Golden Temple. The train is due to arrive at 13:10. Can somebody tell me if I will have enough time to visit the Golden Temple that same afternoon as I will really need to get a flight out the following morning. How long does a visit normally take?
Could someone also recommend a hotel for around the IR1000 to IR1400 range.
Thanks

I hope someone is able to give me some advice. I am traveling to the punjab in late march. I am traveling with my partner and i hope to get a blessing in punjab. Although i am a sikh ( he is a non sikh) and we both wished to be blessed. We are both 'simple' beings and feel that the razmataz of a big wedding ceremony is not for us and although not religous - we both are very spirtual. I have travelled to punjab on a number of occassions and it well be his first. My parents will be travelling out before us - i have requested a no frills'ceremony' but deep down i would feel very fulfilled in having a ceremony/blessing within the vicinity of the golden temple. Mother no doubt will be doing her bit- i would just like a bit of 'control' and knowlegde.

Hi VT'ers!
I am now at the stage of pouring over maps to work out an intinerary for the big India trip in January-February. At the moment I am trying to connect up places that I would like to visit and have found a tricky one in getting from Amritsar to Bikaner (West of Jaipur) without doing a great big loop East through Delhi or Jaipur.
I have found a train service that runs Amritsar to Jaipur and can take me to Bathinda Junction....after that I am drawing a blank!!
Any advice that you can offer would be fantastic - also, it looks like I will be overnighting in Bathinda. Does anyone have any accommodation or things to see in Bathinda?
Take Care,
Lachy
