Fun cities to stay in Near Dusseldorf Posted: Thu July 9, 2009 10:33 PM UTC
My friend and I are visiting Dusseldorf and are looking for a fun city to stay at for a few days that would be on the way or not too far out of the way from Amsterdam because that would be our next destination. Any suggestions for two 21 year old girls?

Advice please Posted: Thu July 9, 2009 09:34 AM UTC
Hi,
I am planning to do a mini tour of Bavaria with my wife and 10 year old daughter. Planning to stay in Munich, Regensburg and Nuremberg with a day trip to Neuschwanstein. How long do you recommend to stay in each place and what is the best way to get between the cities.
Many thanks in advance

Orphanage in Herzo Posted: Wed July 8, 2009 04:58 PM UTC
I was in the Liebfrauenhause orphanage in Herzogenaurach for about 2 years (~1953-54) until adopted by a couple in the States. Is the orphanage still there? If so, are there pictures available on-line? Better yet, if by chance, someone was there at about that time, would love to hear from them.
Thanks all!

Augsburg, Würzburg or Regensburg? Posted: Tue July 7, 2009 08:33 PM UTC
If you were to travel to one of these 3 cities, which one would you
choose and why?
- Augsburg
- Würzburg
- Regensburg
I am planning a 1-day trip from Munich via high-speed train and would
like to choose 1 beautiful city from the above 3. I already planned
trips to some other places in Germany including Rothenburg. That's why
I came up with the above list, since I have 1 more day to devote to a trip outside of the city.
Thanks!

Have decided to find at least some time of staying close to the nature, and am deciding whether should go to Lake Konigsee or Lake Konstance. Will both area have cottage like pension available for staying?
In terms of scenery, which area is more beautiful? and more natural?
And if I want to go cycling, which area is better?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Please, could someone make suggestions about Lake Constance (Bodensee) ? Posted: Mon July 6, 2009 01:27 AM UTC
I'm planning to spend about 3 days at Lake Constance. I've chosen Meersburg as a base to visit Constance, Lindau and Uberlingen. Is that OK ? Should I visit other ones ?

Daytrips? Posted: Sun July 5, 2009 05:36 PM UTC
I'm in Wurzburg for 3 nights/4 days.
I shall explore the town itself, go to Rothenburg-ob-der-Tauber (I know it's touristy but the history/architecture appeals...I shall visit early in the day) and possibly Bamberg (though I may go there from Nurnburg instead). From Nurnberg (3 nights, 3 days) I'll definitely visit Regensburg.
Given my interest in (early) history and archaeology, is there anywhere (accessible by public transport) which I might otherwise miss?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Nice areas/neighborhoods to visit in Munich Posted: Sun July 5, 2009 05:17 PM UTC
Hello,
I will be visiting Munich in early September with my wife (we're in our early 30s). I am curious to know about nice/interesting and lively neighborhoods in Munich where one can see cute stores, cozy cafes, decent restaurants, and feel the life of a typical Munich resident outside of the tourist traps of the old city center.
Also, because we are planning several 1-day trips, we will have a lot of evenings to spend in Munich (staying near the main rail station) within 15-min walk from Marienplatz. So I am curious to know of good areas to go to in the evening (don't care that much about dance clubs, but want to visit lively areas where people hang out in the evening).

Berlin to Munchen Posted: Sat July 4, 2009 03:57 PM UTC
Hi all,
Am planning to take the night train from Berlin to Munchen. We found that there is the deluxe double cabin for the sleeper. With the Dauer Special ticket, can I still use my german rail pass? If I can, do you know how much we need to pay extra for the sleeper service?
Besides, is there any washroom/shower inside the deluxe double cabin?
Thanks a lot.

Public Transportation in Cologne Posted: Thu July 2, 2009 08:08 PM UTC
Wow, the VRS site isn't too user friendly. Can anyone help me determine the cheapest form of city transportation? My wife and I will be staying there on September 7 - 11. Is the "Welcome Card" the best way to go or should we just buy the Daily Passes?
Thank You!

Christmas overseas, but where? Posted: Tue June 30, 2009 11:25 PM UTC
My family (two adults and two kids 8 & 15) will be spending Christmas in Germany as a once-in-a-lifetime treat, and I'd really like to make Christmas Eve and Morning the highlight of the trip. I don't mind a bit of a splurge if someone can recommend a quintessentially German Christmas hotel or castle or event. We're planning on hitting the Christmas markets and renting a car, so we have some flexibility, even to reach into Switzerland or somewhere else for the perfect spot. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Trip to Germany in August Posted: Tue June 30, 2009 04:46 AM UTC
Dear all,
I am planning my one week trip to Germany in mid August. Air ticket has been booked that restricted my in-out airport to be Frankfurt. However as I will be arriving Frankfurt in late evening of Sat, which means I could start any activities on Sunday only, and my flight depart Frankfurt on the next Sunday at 10:00pm. Can anyone recommend what can be done on sunday as I know almost all shops are closed on Sundays?
I have an idea of visiting Heidelberg on the sunday before leaving frankfurt but am not sure if small shops on Heidelberg will be closed also on Sunday?

I will be flying into the Frankfurt International Airport in August. I have 3 hours between the time my flight arrives and when my sister's flight arrives. I was wondering if there is anywhere I can go that is around the airport? How close is the airport to things to see around Frankfurt? Any advice would be appreciated.

train from airport to amsterdam Posted: Tue June 30, 2009 01:20 AM UTC
My 22 y.o. son will be traveling alone to Frankfurt (FRA) and taking a train to Amsterdam. I've learned from reading posts that there is a train station at the airport. I'm assuming that he will be able to catch his train there. Will that trip be direct to Amsterdam or will he need to change trains? He has already purchased a Eurail Pass. I know that some tickets require a surcharge for a reservation. Will this be one of those situations? If not, does that change once in the Netherlands? Thanks in advance for any help in this matter. This trip has come up quickly and he will be leaving in a few days. We plan on doing as much research as we can, but I have found that VT is always the best source for info.

Question regarding Frankfurt Airport Posted: Mon June 29, 2009 08:46 PM UTC
Hi All!
First of all thank you so much for all the help that you guys provided for all my and my parents' European travel so far. I needed to ask one question regarding the Frankfurt airport. I have heard that it is a very big airport and that the distance for switching from one gate to another in the same terminal is enormous. I wanted to know if there is a mini-cab or electric car sort of service available at the airport using which one can go from one gate to another in terminal 1. And if there is any such service how much does it cost?
Thanks a lot to all of you once again!
