My husband and I are going to move to Munich starting from September. We have to find a flat and would like to avoid to pay such expensive commissions to agencies. Could someone living in Munich help me to find something? I speak fluent German. Many Thanks

Hamburg Posted: Mon May 14, 2012 05:47 AM UTC
Hi all....will be in Hamburg in July to join our ship. We will need accommodation for a few days to explore the city.

Where do you suggest? Three or four stars....atmosphere...not a tall uninteresting hotel...walk to coffee bars....

Thanks
Marg

I am new to this forum - any help would be much appreciated.

We have 4 days in Germany - starting in Stuttgart where we fly into, picking up a car and then driving back to Calais on return home to Scotland. Want to make best of trip, we like history. Help with nice but not expensive accommodation - although one night in somewhere really nice, exclusive, peaceful historical would be great. Best places to shop for great German products, Villroy Boch etc Are Lindberg/Starck designer spectacles a good purchase in Germany compared with UK? That is something for a co member to get their teeth into!

Planning on flying into either Berlin or Munich before heading to Poland. The question is, which city? I am interested in Nazi History and the jews and WWII.
I am also interested in the museums.

Yet, I am also interested in castles and medieval towns. So its a tough call.
Feedback on both cities would be appreciated.

Berlin Posted: Thu May 10, 2012 02:01 PM UTC
We are doing this
http://gcerc.wordpress.com/
We will be in Berlin, for a night but not much of a morning, then it's the train down to Prague.
An important part of the plan is to have some interesting gastronomical experience at each of the great capitals we pass through by way of a picnic on the train between stops (will be visiting, near as damn it, every capital in western Europe, and a few other places like Barca, Venice and Istanbul).
I know about great German seedy bread, I think there is a decent bakery in the main station, but we need something a little out of the ordinary to go with it. The kind of stuff you dont normally get. Everyone on the trip will have been to Berlin at least once before, bratwurst isn't really going to make it, unless you can tell me that "the finest sausage in all of Deutschland can be had with in 15 minutes of the station".
Anyway, if you know of any great delies (they can be expensive, we're doing several local equivalents of Harrod's food halls along the way) or just some suggestion for something so Prussian only the Prussians know about it etc, or a web site I need to pour over, then please let me know. Don't worry if it's hard to get, if it's interesting enough we have mates on the ground who can help us get it worked out.

Danke

Hi there,

I'm travelling with a friend to Munich next weekend for the Champions League final. We literally get in at 10 am on Saturday and leave straight after the game - but we wanted to know what were the MUST SEE things in Munich - definitely want to check out some of the beer halls!

Also are there specific English pubs/bars?

Thanks for your help!

Freiburg im Breisgau Posted: Fri April 27, 2012 03:58 PM UTC
I am taking an early train from Freiburg im Breisgau to Frankfurt airport. The train gives me a 6 minute connection in Mannheim. Does anyone know if that is long enough to change trains with luggage?
Will it be in on the same track?

thanks

Hi

I will be travelling down to Munich for the Champions League final, weekend 18-20 May.

We have booked a hotel in Allershausen, which, looking at the map is not on a train or tram line.

Could someone advise me of the best way to do the following by public transport as I will need to leave my car at the hotel:

Allerhausen - Munich City Centre.
Allianz Arena - Allerhausen.

Don't mind getting a taxi to and from the nearest station to Allerhausen.

Many thanks

I'm going to be staying in Bullay and see that the village is just outside the VRT zone, but that travelling from (e.g.) Traben-Trabach to Trier by train would take you through Bullay station.

My question is, can I buy a VRT ticket at Bullay and use it for a train journey starting there and going to Trier ? Maybe the VRT website (in German) covers this point, but my German isn't good enough to understand it!

Thanks experts.

Please help
I've booked a ticket on train from Dusseldorf International to Kehl. But the problem is my flight land in Dusseldorf Weeze and I'm not sure that I'm able to catch my train.
On the ticket is written that it's valid for IRE,RE,RB and S trains. So, the questions is can I use that ticket on another route that is also goes from Dusseldorf International to Kehl the same day and the same types of trains?
Also there is a route from Weeze to Kehl that is very similar to the first one I mentioned but it involves NWB train. Is my ticket valid on this train? Thanks!

My int'l flight reach Munich at 11am and want to change bus or train to Hallstatt. So here are the questions:
If by bus, is it convinient to go from airport to bus station & bus schedule is frequent that easily be caught by me? How long to Hallstatt? ~$$?
If by train, is it more convinient than I take the bus? How much cost approximately?

Appreciate that!

Hi there,

I have applied for a job based in Erlangen, and I hope that I get it! One of my great loves in Australia is diving. I always have to explain that I mean platform diving, into a pool, off a board.

Does anyone know whether I could continue to do this living in Erlangen? I only started doing this about a year ago, and I am in my late forties. I say this only to make it clear that I am not bound for the Olympics or anything! It is purely for my own enjoyment and challenge, but I love it.

I would really appreciate any replies,

Lucy

While traveling, I like to have a list of great places to eat... that way, I can try to find some places on my own, but if I can't, at least I know of places that come with good recommendations..

Specifically:

Good places for breakfast (I love a traditional breakfast of eggs and bacon (sausage) and/or pancakes) OR just your fav place for whatever breakfast??

Good Biergarten?

Good pub kind of place with CIDER?

Thanks SO much for your help! =)
