| Ladakh Range | 2 weeks Delhi-Ladakh Range-Delhi in July ... with kids Posted: Tue February 12, 2008 02:06 AM UTC
Hi,
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to travel to the Ladakh area within two weeks in July with kids of 6 and 9? Will there be activities that they will enjoy (they like trekking but don't have as much stamina as their parents)? Is it possible to hire horses, donkeys or some such to help them with the trekking? Alternatively we were thinking of the Manali area in July? Is it still raining there in July? any other suggestions of activities to do with children in the area would be most appreciated. |

| Ladakh Range | ladakh end of november Posted: Thu October 11, 2007 05:25 PM UTC
hi everybody!
i'm planning a trip to ladakh 18- 30 nov 2007 with a friend. the first question is about weather: do you know what we'll have to expect (which minimum temperature in leh, snow or .. what else ) ? our idea is to spend few days in the nubra valley (lonely planets says the road to get there is open, but a local agency replied to our enquiry saying that it's closed and the valley not accessible), than to organise a 5 days trekking from lamayuru to alchi .. do you think it is worth and feasible at the end of november? is there anybody who was there in the same period? can you suggest anything else in terms of places to visit and trekking? would you raccomand to go trekking with a guide? thank you in advance to everybody.. so exciting the idea to leave:-))) silvia |

| Ladakh Range | Seven in Heaven Posted: Fri May 11, 2007 01:26 PM UTC
Seven of us intend to enter via Srinagar- Kargil.
Total trip time 16 days Srinagar to Delhi From Kargil move in to the Zanskar range via Padum. Do river rafting else do a Jeep safari in Zanskar then reach Leh where we can do a simple one day river rafting Grade I-II. Go visit the highest motorable road (kardung La), Nubra valley , highest lake (Pangong) and ofcourse the prestine monastries. Return from Leh via Jispa to Manali. If poss bike it. A. How is river rafting in Zanskar- whom do i contact for the same besides(travel-himalayas.com ), how would you rate them OR B. should we change our itineary to fly in directly to Leh in lieu of going to Srinagar and driving down through Kargil ? Then go for a trek around Nubra Valley/ Markha/ 10 day Spituk to Hemis Trek. OR C. Should we continue from Srinagar- to - Kargil. The set out a trek to Zanskar Valley for 7 days. Reach Leh after the Trek ? D.As i understand from you earlier posting you mention it is easier to find deals once you reach Leh. IN case we are coming in from Srinagar - Kargil side- What do you recommend we do. Come all the way to Leh and then find a deal for treks ? e. Wangchuk you mentioned some agencies in Leh give motorbike mostly Enfield Bike on hire on per day basis. Could you elaborate on the cost ? Can we drive down Manali using this and hand over the Bikes to the their Manali office ? Is 4/ 5 bikes between 7 of us enough (as two in the team cannot drive bikes ) f. Is Leh crowded in August ? We intend to skip locations which ever are too crowded. g. Trust august 10th - 26th 2007 is a good time to pay a visit to Heaven. request you replies esp Angchuk, Wangchuk, sacs2k1 |

| Ladakh Range | Trip to Leh during mid Jan 2007 Posted: Tue December 5, 2006 12:49 PM UTC
I am considering a trip to Leh mid Jan 2007.
I am aware that this is not the best time to visit Leh as a tourist, but unfortunately I don’t have a choice! Are there any trekking opportunities that I could consider during this period? I will be there for 4 days. Even a short one day trek will do. I will be accompanied by my friend. We both are in a good shape in terms of physical fitness. I am based in Dubai at the moment and will be flying down to Delhi and from Delhi to Leh while my friend will join me from Bangalore. Trekking is top priority for us plus visiting the not-to-be-missed locations. It will be great if you could give me some inputs Cheers |

Dear Tour Operator,
We are a family of three (two adults+ one child - 12 years) planning a holiday in Leh/ladakh from 17th to 23rd December. We would like to know from the members the following information to plan our trip: 1. Good tour agents who could assist us in planning this trip for us. 4. Accommodation in Luxury hotels or guest houses/paying guests with locals. 5. Please advise if it is feasible for us to start the tour in Manali and drive to Ley - considering the timing. 6. Private tour guide and a vehicle. Looking forward to hearing from the members. Regards, Sharat Kumar |

| Ladakh Range | Ladakh: Jetairways, digital camera, budget, GH Posted: Fri July 14, 2006 09:47 AM UTC
Hello all,
Heading to Ladakh in less than a month now, youhou!!!! I have some questions still and would be so greatful for a couple of answers: 1. I have JetAirways e-tickets, do I need to confirm these, and if so where? I've tried to e-mail their Paris office to get info, but no answer. 2. I'd like to take my digital camera with me. Is this a good idea or is film better? For the digital camera, what are the possibilities of recharging in and out of Leh? 3. I'll be there 3 weeks, what kind of a budget should I have, knowing that I'd like to visit various regions by jeep safari. Also, should I go with cash, traveller's or can I go to ATM with my VISA card (I read in some guide that it was difficult at ATMS in Leh with a VISA) 4. Does anyone know how I can contact Oriental GH in Leh, I've tried to send an e-mail at their new address and no answer, and the booking forms on their site don't seem to work. Any other places you have contact information for? Just want to book our first couple of nights in Leh Thank you all for your help Good travelling! Ekat |

| Ladakh Range | Ladakh: Money, budget and Camera Posted: Thu April 27, 2006 03:29 PM UTC
Hello
I'll be in Ladakh from 14 to 31 August. I have some questions bothering me at the moment, I'm sure more will come alon later. How can one access cash in Leh. Are there ATMs, can one change traveller's checks or must one arrive with cash (perhaps changed at Delhi?). If ATMs are available, my budget can be more flexible, but if I need to start taking rupees, I'll have to calculate more accurately. So to come to the budget, how much should one plan for 17 days in Ladakh? I'm not going to be doing much trekking, walking around to visit places, but no long treks. Perhaps get around in a rented jeep with a driver. I'd like to do the Indus Valley, go up to Da-Hanu, Alchi, Hemis,.. and go to the ChangTang national Parc, also go to Nubra Valley. Also, I have a digital reflex camera Nikon d70s. I've heard it's very dusty in the Himalaya. Is changing lenses a real hazard? Will my ca^mera be ok? Thnks for your help, it is always much appreciated. Ekat |

| Ladakh Range | Ladakh in July Posted: Fri March 17, 2006 06:24 PM UTC
Hello there,
I booked a ticket to Leh and will be there from July 8 to July 22 (early morning). I am planning to spend the first 2 days on a trip to Pangong Tso and then would like to do a trek. Treks that intrests me are: Rumtse to Tso Moriri (8 days), Nubra Valley Trek (5-6days), Lamayuru to Alchi Trek (5-6days) and Markha Valley Trek (8-9days) I am travelling by myself and if anybody wants to join, pls let me know. Because I can imagine it would be really expensive to go on a tour by myself. I am also not sure whether it is possible to do those treks alone (food supply etc) So if there is anybody who is also there during that time, just drop an email. Thanks and a great weekend! Jasmin |

I have no option:only May. The question is: can I travel in Ladakh? I think I have to fly and it is expensive. I will be coming from Manali, but think the road will be closed in May. Once in Leh , can I travel by local buses to visit tibetan temples or local roads are still closed at that time of the year? What about heating in guesthouses? I do not want to miss the place, but I would like to have a good time! Please advice.

Hi,
i am going to be Leh for trekking and wandering between the dates mentioned above. was wondering if i could make friends with people travelling at the same time, maybe get some company for the trip from delhi (by bus). any information regarding how to book campsites will be most gratefully accepted. do I need to book them before i get there or can i do that after i get there? and also are basic facilities available at camp sites (may sound silly but isn't it terribly essential?) thanks and happy tripping everyone... |
