is it true, that you cannot pinpoint the exact day and time to fly from Delhi to Leh and back, due to that there is always a bog chance flights will be cancelled dued to weather?

Couple of questions re trip to Leh Posted: Tue June 23, 2009 09:26 PM UTC
Hallo VTers,
I would like to ask you for a help. I plan to go to Leh in the 2nd half of August. I will arrive to Delhi and then I plan to continue to go through Manali to leh. In this respect I have the following questions:
i) Is it easy to book a bus from Delhi to Manali and from Manali to Leh once in India or is it better to book in advance? Do you have any links where I can check times/fares?
ii) Is it safe to take overnight buses?
iii) What is the safety situation in Jammu and Kashmir? Is it ok or is it somehow dangerous?
iv) Is easy to find a hotel/hostel once I arrive to Leh or is it recommendable to book it in advance?
Thanks a lot!!!
Cheers

Hiring an SUV and driver one way from Manali to Leh Posted: Sun May 10, 2009 06:11 AM UTC
I need a small SUV for a family of three from Manali to Leh on July 11, 2009 for a 2 or 3 day trip. Can you suggest agencies or drivers that you have used that are reliable.
The most important things for me are:
- reliable, experienced and SAFE/SLOW driver who will listen to our requests
- reliable vehicle
- low/reasonable cost
Please suggest agencies/people I can contact. How much should I expect to pay?
ALSO, is MANALi and the first stretch of roads going to be full of landslides and slush in July due to rains?
Thanks

Plane Tickets to/from Leh Posted: Fri July 11, 2008 02:28 AM UTC
Hi,
I will be traveling to Leh in mid-August, and my plan was to fly one way and take a bus/jeep the other way (haven't decided which way to fly yet). I'm trying to understand whether I need to buy plane tickets in advance. Ideally, I would like to reach Leh by road and then fly to Delhi when I feel like it, but this would mean getting plane tickets from Leh to Delhi only a few days in advance. Will I have problems getting tickets? How much should I expect to pay? Also, any recommendation as to flying into Leh as opposed to flying out of Leh?
Thanks!

Traveling alone to Leh/Ladakh in mid July Posted: Mon July 7, 2008 02:00 PM UTC
Hi,
I am traveling to Leh from July 17-26 -- that's 9 days and i was wondering if that is enough time to spend the first day acclimatizing and then still have time to see Leh, around Leh, and plan trips to Pangong Lake, Nubra Valley and maybe somewhere else?
Also I am a woman traveling alone and I wanted to know how easy is it to meet other travelers to share jeeps and taxis with for these longer trips?
Can anyone recommend travel agents in Leh I should meet to help plan my Ladakh travel?
Also, what about guest houses in Leh? I was considering Siala Guesthouse which is about 600 Rs. for a single but does anyone know of any that they stayed at that they really liked and would highly recommend? My budget is up till 600 Rs./night.
Also, should I book from Delhi or should I get there and then find a place? Or is that going to interfere with the acclimatizing??
I would love to do Pangong lake as an overnight trip -- is that possible?
Thank you in advance for your advice!!!

Delhi to Manali to Leh Posted: Fri April 25, 2008 05:00 PM UTC
Hello,
My girlfriend and I wanted to take the Manali-Leh road trip mid August. I found the posts on this forum to be very helpful, but I still have a few questions that I wasn’t able to find answers to.
1. DELHI TO MANALI. Would you recommend flying or taking a bus from Delhi to Manali? If I fly, how much can I expect to pay for a ticket? If I take a bus, how (un)comfortable is it? Are there places on the way from Delhi to Manali that are really worth seeing?
2. OPTIONS FOR THE TRIP. Based on what I read on this forum, most people seem to drive themselves. I’ve never been to India (so I’ve never driven there), so I don’t know if it’s a good idea for me to drive myself. Any thoughts? If I do drive, is there an option of renting a car in Manali and returning it in Leh? What are other options (e.g., hiring a driver, taking a bus, an so on)?
Thank you!

staying for a month in Leh Posted: Sat March 15, 2008 09:27 AM UTC
Hi! I want to stay in Leh for a little over 1 month in May-June. Could someone recommend a nice place to stay that would provide a good price deal for longer stays. I would prefer a guest house that's quiet and walking distance (or connected by public transport) from the city center. Options of making tea or light cooking would be a great advantage.
Thanks in advance

Query for the trip to Leh Posted: Wed October 3, 2007 05:45 PM UTC
Hi:
One thing has been lingering in my mind since we have come back from Ladakh (on 25th June, 2007) is, how do people visit Nubra valley, Spiti, Panamik and other such places which require at least an overnight stay? Do they visit these places checking out from their hotels in Leh with all luggage packed and loaded in the car or they leave the luggage in the hotel and come out only with necessary items. In the former case, the car with luggage on its carrier will be quite unstable and would not be wise to drive it on such bad roads until it is a compulsion. While in the latter situation, one has to pay the room rent at two places. I guess there are some other alternatives too. I would like you to share it with me. So that next time when I go there I do not miss any place and enjoy the trip thoroughly and come back to home without any regression. It is not easy to make up mind to visit Ladakh second time with family considering all the aspects.
Thank you
MAS
