Leh Plane Tickets to/from Leh
Posted: Fri July 11, 2008 01:28 AM UTC
Hi,

I will be traveling to Leh in mid-August, and my plan was to fly one way and take a bus/jeep the other way (haven't decided which way to fly yet). I'm trying to understand whether I need to buy plane tickets in advance. Ideally, I would like to reach Leh by road and then fly to Delhi when I feel like it, but this would mean getting plane tickets from Leh to Delhi only a few days in advance. Will I have problems getting tickets? How much should I expect to pay? Also, any recommendation as to flying into Leh as opposed to flying out of Leh?

Thanks!

Leh Traveling alone to Leh/Ladakh in mid July
Posted: Mon July 7, 2008 01:00 PM UTC
Hi,

I am traveling to Leh from July 17-26 -- that's 9 days and i was wondering if that is enough time to spend the first day acclimatizing and then still have time to see Leh, around Leh, and plan trips to Pangong Lake, Nubra Valley and maybe somewhere else?

Also I am a woman traveling alone and I wanted to know how easy is it to meet other travelers to share jeeps and taxis with for these longer trips?

Can anyone recommend travel agents in Leh I should meet to help plan my Ladakh travel?

Also, what about guest houses in Leh? I was considering Siala Guesthouse which is about 600 Rs. for a single but does anyone know of any that they stayed at that they really liked and would highly recommend? My budget is up till 600 Rs./night.

Also, should I book from Delhi or should I get there and then find a place? Or is that going to interfere with the acclimatizing??

I would love to do Pangong lake as an overnight trip -- is that possible?

Thank you in advance for your advice!!!

Leh Delhi to Manali to Leh
Posted: Fri April 25, 2008 04:00 PM UTC
Hello,

My girlfriend and I wanted to take the Manali-Leh road trip mid August. I found the posts on this forum to be very helpful, but I still have a few questions that I wasn’t able to find answers to.

1. DELHI TO MANALI. Would you recommend flying or taking a bus from Delhi to Manali? If I fly, how much can I expect to pay for a ticket? If I take a bus, how (un)comfortable is it? Are there places on the way from Delhi to Manali that are really worth seeing?

2. OPTIONS FOR THE TRIP. Based on what I read on this forum, most people seem to drive themselves. I’ve never been to India (so I’ve never driven there), so I don’t know if it’s a good idea for me to drive myself. Any thoughts? If I do drive, is there an option of renting a car in Manali and returning it in Leh? What are other options (e.g., hiring a driver, taking a bus, an so on)?

Thank you!

Leh staying for a month in Leh
Posted: Sat March 15, 2008 08:27 AM UTC
Hi! I want to stay in Leh for a little over 1 month in May-June. Could someone recommend a nice place to stay that would provide a good price deal for longer stays. I would prefer a guest house that's quiet and walking distance (or connected by public transport) from the city center. Options of making tea or light cooking would be a great advantage.
Thanks in advance

Leh Query for the trip to Leh
Posted: Wed October 3, 2007 04:45 PM UTC
Hi:
One thing has been lingering in my mind since we have come back from Ladakh (on 25th June, 2007) is, how do people visit Nubra valley, Spiti, Panamik and other such places which require at least an overnight stay? Do they visit these places checking out from their hotels in Leh with all luggage packed and loaded in the car or they leave the luggage in the hotel and come out only with necessary items. In the former case, the car with luggage on its carrier will be quite unstable and would not be wise to drive it on such bad roads until it is a compulsion. While in the latter situation, one has to pay the room rent at two places. I guess there are some other alternatives too. I would like you to share it with me. So that next time when I go there I do not miss any place and enjoy the trip thoroughly and come back to home without any regression. It is not easy to make up mind to visit Ladakh second time with family considering all the aspects.
Thank you

Leh Help!!! Planning my itinerary
Posted: Mon October 1, 2007 01:52 PM UTC
Thanks so much for the advises.. Last lap to go in planning my itinerary.. I have some questions..

1)Can anyone tell me wat is the difference between Pungong and Tsomoriri Lake? Which should i visit if i can only choose 1?

2) Is it advisable to stay over for a night either at Pungong or Tsomorri lake during winter? Are there any hotel or guesthouse with room heater?

3) Is there any reliable tour operators that helps to plan customized tours?

3) Is this itinerary do-able?

Day 1 : Delhi - Leh (afternoon or evening) Hall of Fame, Leh Palace & Shanti Stupa. Evening free at Leh bazaar
Day 2: Leh - Nubra Valley
Day 3 : Nubra - Pungong/Tsomoriri Lake (Can we travel to Pungong or Tsomoriri Lake directly from Nubra and stay there for the night instead?)
Day 4 : Pangong Lake - Leh
Day 5: Alchi, Likir monasteries & Sangam (Zangskar/Indus)
Day 6 : Leh - halfday tour of Indus Valley, Stok Palace Museum, Shey Palace, Thiksey Monastery and Hemis Monasteries.

Leh Seven in Heaven
Posted: Fri May 11, 2007 01:30 PM UTC
Seven of us intend to enter via Srinagar- Kargil.
Total trip time 16 days Srinagar to Delhi

From Kargil move in to the Zanskar range via Padum. Do river rafting
else do a Jeep safari in Zanskar then reach Leh where we can do a
simple one day river rafting Grade I-II. Go visit the highest
motorable road (kardung La), Nubra valley , highest lake (Pangong) and ofcourse the prestine monastries.

Return from Leh via Jispa to Manali. If poss bike it.

A. How is river rafting in Zanskar- whom do i contact for the same besides(travel-himalayas.com ), how would you rate them
OR
B. should we change our itineary to fly in directly to Leh in lieu of going to Srinagar and driving down through Kargil ? Then go for a trek around Nubra Valley/ Markha/ 10 day Spituk to Hemis Trek.
OR
C. Should we continue from Srinagar- to - Kargil. The set out a trek to Zanskar Valley for 7 days. Reach Leh after the Trek ?
D.As i understand from you earlier posting you mention it is easier to find deals once you reach Leh. IN case we are coming in from Srinagar - Kargil side- What do you recommend we do. Come all the way to Leh and then find a deal for treks ?
e. Wangchuk you mentioned some agencies in Leh give motorbike mostly Enfield Bike on hire on per day basis. Could you elaborate on the cost ? Can we drive down Manali using this and hand over the Bikes to the their Manali office ? Is 4/ 5 bikes between 7 of us enough (as two in the team cannot drive bikes )
f. Is Leh crowded in August ? We intend to skip locations which ever are too crowded.
g. Trust august 10th - 26th 2007 is a good time to pay a visit to Heaven.

request you replies esp Angchuk, Wangchuk, sacs2k1

Leh Permits and Stay in Leh
Posted: Thu May 3, 2007 11:40 AM UTC
Hi,
I'm visiting Leh, with two of my friends from June 14 to June 19. We're coming from Delhi by AirDeccan.
Guided by response to the question "6-day tour", we have planned following schedule.

14 June: Staying in hotel and some-time in Leh-bazaar
15 June: Local sight-seeing ( Thiksey, Hemis, Shey, Stok mesuem) or (Sindhu Ghat+Zanksar valley confluence)??
16+17 June: Nubra valley
18 June: Pangong lake
19 June: flight back to Delhi

I'll be grateful, if somebody could answer following two questions:

1. Due to cost factor, I'm interested in booking rooms in a Guest house. From restaurants point of view, I think that I should try to get one near main-market (leh-bazaar). Should I book the room in Advance? If yes, please suggest couple of guest-houses. Our budget is 700-1200 Rs per day.

2. I read that I'll need some permits for Nubra valley and Pongong lake. Can I arrange them, once I arrive at Leh on June 14. Are there any suggestions for travel-agents?

Thanks in advance for the help...
