12 hours in Madras/Cennai Posted: Tue April 28, 2009 09:17 AM UTC
Air France has cancelled their flight to Cennai/Madras and now I am rerouted via bangalore with an additional 12 hours at hand, before connecting to KL.. arriving at Cennai/madras airport at 7 am and leaving for KL at around 7 pm.
I have been to Cennai/Madras before so sightseeing after a long and overnight trip is not a priority. Two things come to mind:
Day use at a nearby hotel?
Call Taxi to go to Mahabalipuram for a leisurely lunch and a little rest?
Any help would be appreciated..Muchas Gracias..

Thirupathi to chennai!!! Posted: Sun March 29, 2009 09:10 AM UTC
This is the first time i coming to India with my wife for leisure purpose, between sept 2009 and mid november 2009
I would like to get some suggestion the mode of transport( which is cheap, affordable, and convinent) May be its sound a bit different caused i assumed the hospitality there would be as same as malaysia. i dont want to get cheated by the touts
where should i get the first class bus ticket from Thirupathi to chennai in Thirupathi.
(mode of transport suggested, frequent of transport, journey time and estimated cost).
Hotel ( Budget range from Rs.1100 to Rs 1350 must be safe and clean with attached toilets and easy to access the city.
Im planning to spend about 3 days 2 night in chennai, the places are as follows:
T. Nagar
Mylapore
Vadaphalani
Ampa mall
Tidel Park
Spencer Plaza
Mount road(Richie street)
AVM studio(if possible got a chance to see a film shooting)
Charlie Grammam
Mayajaal
To airport cheap and save mode in the night
best mode of transport(afforable and convinient) for above mentioned place or is that cheap to arrange a ground work with the tour agents.
Pls advice me, i hope this first visit will make me india is very nice place to visit again

July/August destinations in India (with less rain/less humidity) Posted: Thu March 5, 2009 12:34 PM UTC
July/August destinations in India (with less rain/less humidity)
I am planning to spend April, and May in the Indian Himalayas (both NE India, and the far NW), but since I have a six month Indian visa, I am allowed to stay until the end of September, my question is where should I spend June, and then July, and August? I know these months are very rainy almost everywhere, and since I am visiting dry places like Ladakh in April/May, the question remains where else in India can I go that's relatively dry (though a nice downpour now and then COULD be nice, just to see it, but not everyday, and not if it's going to affect photography), and where is the heat, and humidity relatively lower (in July, and August)? Please don't say Ladakh because I will have already seen it in April/May. I am looking for other alternatives, with less rain, less humidty, and fewer hazy/overcast days (in July, and August).

Any Irish pubs / Sports Bars that shows Football in Chennai? Posted: Wed December 3, 2008 06:50 AM UTC
Heya! ..am in Chennai now! ..it's been poetically chaotic but fun!
Just wondering before the weekend pops up? Does Chennai have any good ol' Irish Pubs / sports bars that play the EPL in the weekends? I have been having real trouble finding a nice pub to hang out till late...everywhere I have been shuts down at 11.00?, I am more of an evening / night person and it' would be nice to end the day with a few pints before I crash out...
Chelsea is playing Bolton on Saturday and I intend to watch somewhere out there :-)
Any info at all ..would be helpful!

Female Dress Posted: Tue September 23, 2008 05:39 PM UTC
Hello,
I will be traveling to India (Chennai) for the first time next month and would like some suggestions as to what is/isn't appropriate for women to wear. I have heard that dress is more conservative than in the US, but would appreciate any feedback from anyone, particularly women, who have traveled there.
For example, I have heard that skirts should be knee-length or longer. Would capris (mid-calf) or knee-length shorts be inappropriate in any way? I have heard the weather will be warm, but should all sleeveless shirts be off-limits, or just avoid ones with thin straps?
Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Chennai Airport Luggage Minding and Flights to Phuket Posted: Wed August 13, 2008 02:22 PM UTC
Hello
I would like to know whether Chennai has any luggage minding facilities and a rough indication of costs for a month storage? Or if a better safe option would be available near the airport.
Also, does anyone know of any direct flights from Chennai to Phuket? At the moment I am looking at flying to Bangkok first and then changing for a flight to Phuket which seems like a waste of time.
thanks

Decent hotel near Chennai Central in 500 Rs range and other information Posted: Wed June 18, 2008 08:08 AM UTC
I am arriving in Chennai by train from Trivandrum on Monday morning (June 23rd).
I am looking for a decent, clean, fan-cooled room with own bath in the 500 Rs range. Is this possible?
I want to attend the auto expo at the Chennai Trade Centre. It is in Nandambakkam - which I understand is some 8km from the city centre. Can anyone give me options and costs to get there - i.e. bus, rickshaw, taxi, train?
Thanks very much for your help.

Where do you advice us to stay? Chennai seems too far away (1 hour); is Chengelpattu nice? What about Tambaram? Do you know other nice city to stay?
Is furnished rental the best?
Tks for any advice.

Budget Hotels near Chennai Airport Posted: Sun March 2, 2008 11:25 AM UTC
Hi Fellow VT's,
I will be traveling to Mumbai via Chennai this April with a one-night stop-over. Can anyone suggest a decent, clean with A/C budget hotel near the airport? (i know that the airport is way out of the city). I was informed to check out hotels in Kennet Lane.
And would you also know if that budget hotel can arrange an airport transfer from and back?
Thanks so much.
