i ahve seen beautifull images of the temples of madurai. these were images overviewing the many temples from somewhere upon a buiding. Are there places that offer great views over the temples, are they accessible for tourists? i have heard you cant climb the temples.

I will be in Madurai shortly and would like to visit Karaikudi and Chettinad. How far are these two places from Madurai and how long will the journey take if I hire a car? And how much would it cost me for a one way trip? I would like to stay in Karaikudi, can anyone recommend a good, clean mid-budget hotel. Also any hotel recommendations for authentic Chettinad food..
