Seoul Pls advise
Posted: Sun June 28, 2009 11:28 AM UTC
My friends and 1 (3 of us) will be travelling to Seoul in Mid August. We have yet to fix our accomodations as I can't seem to make a decision without enough information. Thus, pls help if you can.
Should i stay in Banana backpackers' Hotel (which is near to Insadong, the cultural center) or should I stay in Namsan Guesthouse (which is near to shopping and food area)? Both of these places (cultural art center plus palaces and Myeongdong shopping area are both on my must-do-list)
if any of you have stayed before at these 2 places, pls advise which is
1) more convenient to move around from?
2) which easier to arrive at via the limousine shuttle from Incheon?
3) safer to stay out at night?
4) cleaner and better facilities?
5) easier to get to Jongno ga area for the show, JUMP?

Or perhaps you have abetter suggestion than these 2 guesthouses?
Thanks!

Seoul Looking for a good and affordable Panmunjom tour for September
Posted: Tue June 9, 2009 12:15 PM UTC
Ideally on a Monday too, so unfortunately I may not be able to take the USO one as I originally wanted to do.
I really want to visit the border area and the conference room, anything beyond that would be a plus.
Could anybody please recommend a good tour?

Seoul Appartment for rent in Seoul
Posted: Tue June 9, 2009 08:00 AM UTC
Me and a friend are doing a 4month internship in Seoul from February through May of 2010. We want to get started on getting an idea of the price range if we want to rent an appartment, can anyone help us?
So far, all we have found are prices from $1300 and up. As this is too much, we hope to get help from you.
I have tried to find an expat newspaper, but the one I found didn't have any appartment listings in it.

Hope to hear from you!

Thank you,

Seoul Serviced residences in Seoul
Posted: Tue April 21, 2009 05:03 PM UTC
Hello all,

me and my boyfriend are traveling to South Korea for the first time Aug 28 - Sept 21. We would like to stay in a serviced residence, but we can't decide between Han Residences and Hyundai Residences. Both offer a really low price for the duration of our stay (23 nights; both are about €600-700 per person) and we were wondering what the catch is.
If any of you has any experience with either one of these (I've read all the reviews on Tripadvisor and Asiarooms (+ numerous others) already, but still :)) or has any useful tips on specific serviced residences in Seoul or just in general, we'd be really grateful.

Also, do you think it's better to stay in Seoul, buy a rail pass for 10 days and travel around, returning to Seoul each time, or move to a different city every time? We have this dilemma because we'll be traveling from Europe with huge bags because we'll be staying for almost a month, so we're not sure whether moving all the stuff around all the time is a good idea.

Thank you for all your help!

Seoul Accomodation in Hongik Area??
Posted: Mon April 20, 2009 06:29 PM UTC
Hi
My Daughter and her friend are travelling to Seoul for 2 weeks at the end of August/beggining of September.
She would like to stay in the Hongik area, preferably in a hotel. twin room ensuite(a must!)- as they are on a budget price has to be good too!
Main reason for stay in area is the nightlife - so she wants to be able to get "home" easily at night.
Is there anywhere else (within walking distance) she could stay?
The other alternative is staying in Hongik a few nights and elsewhere rest of time - suggestions welcome!
I have tried to look on internet but prices for each place vary so much from site to site!
(I have decided to stay at Yims Hotel in Insa Dong area - as it is cheap and central - she would stay too if it were easy to get back from Hongik)
Any ideas??

Seoul Loooking for somewhere to stay in seoul
Posted: Tue March 17, 2009 01:15 PM UTC
Hi
After spending a wonderful 2 weeks in Seoul/Gyeongju last July I will be travelling to S Korea for almost 3 weeks in September this year.

1) I am planning to meet a friend and possibly share accomodation with her for 1st week - so I am looking for somewhere to stay that is cheap, has internet in room, own bathroom and use of washer/dryer. (so far I have found Hotel Biz in Myeon-dong - any one been there?)

2) My husband will fly out for 2nd and 3rd week and we are thinking of going on the Korail/Aju - CROSS COUNTRY TOURS --- Seoul / Gyeongju / Busan / Jeju (5D/4N)(Rail/flightHotel only) has anyone done this???

3) We then intend to visit a friend in Gongju then go to Songnisan National Park for a couple of days - my husband thinks it will be ok even though I only know a limited amount of Korean!!!(No- he does not speak any at all!!) again has anyone been there and know of any cheap accomodation!(bear in mind i am 49years old!!)

4) For the last 2 nights we will stay at the Lotte Hotel Seoul - (i won 2 nights stay in a comp) - so at least i will get a rest before the long flight home!!!

I would be most grateful for any advice on the above!

Seoul What to do in Seoul in 4 days
Posted: Wed February 18, 2009 05:55 AM UTC
hi VT fellows

I & my husband will be visiting Seoul from 25-29 March. Can you help us with suggestions:

1. How is the weather at that time, still very cold (which will decide how much clothes we have to pack)

2. We only intend to spend time sight - seeing in Seoul (no subburb tour), so what would be most interesting to see.

3. Shopping: we heard of some major shopping areas, but need a little more experiences from you ( esp in the markets).

4. We are thinking of spend some time to go to the Yeoju Premium Outlet. Is it really less expensive and worth the time travelling there ( I guess it's about 1.5hr by bus there).

Thank you so so much for your help.

Seoul Housing for three weeks in Seoul during summer 2009
Posted: Tue February 17, 2009 02:12 PM UTC
Hallo!

I will participate in a language program at Yonsei University in August of this year. I am not very happy with their housing options. That is why I want to organize housing on my own. I am looking for a room in a shared flat or something similar. I am used to shared flats and I would prefer to live with someone of my age (I am 29). It should be at a convenient location to Yonsei and central Seoul. ANy suggestions? How much would it cost? In Tokyo I used the services of an agency named Sakura House who organises rooms for foreigners. Is there maybe something similar in Seoul?

Thanks!

Seoul 6 hours in Seoul

Hi guys,
could you tell me if it makes sense to visit the city, if we are landing at 2pm and departing at 8pm? What's the quickest way to go downtown and how long does it take? It will be on Sunday in August, should we count in a traffic jam or is it usually ok?
Thanks a lot, cheers, Ivana and Martin

Seoul Family travel to Korea
Posted: Tue February 3, 2009 12:15 AM UTC
My family of 4, one son being adopted from Korea and 13 years old, will be traveling to Korea in August. I can not find a tour but I think we will use General Tours, FreeStyle Travel, throught the AAA, (American Automobile Association). We want to see some of the usual things but not all tourist attractions. We like the outdoors and hope to do some hiking.
Looks like we will spend a 3 or 4 days in Seoul, and the last two days visiting Jeju Island. The middle of the suggested tour goes to Busan/Gyeongju but we aren'r really interested in the temples. Maybe a cruise around Hallyeo Maritime National Park.
I am looking for advise on where to go, what to see and traveling tips, because this is our first big trip, such as how to pack light.
Thanks!!

Seoul Shopping in Seoul --> what sizes are available?
Posted: Sun January 25, 2009 10:23 PM UTC
Hi,

I feel the sudden urge for shopping - but I'm wondering whether I should rather wait until I am in Seoul. I'm planning to go there in a couple of weeks, visit my boyfriend, so I will have loads of time on hand - but is it easy to get suitable clothes for me? I heard that korean girls are tall, but pretty slim and slender. I'm 177cm tall, of normal weight - and in Europe I always have the problem that shirts are too short for me, both sleeves and around the waist. Plus I like the style of some korean girls - I also heard that longish shirts are quite en vouge? Is that true? I actually don't trust my bf's judgement too much, he does not really have an eye for that ;)
Ah, and do you have any idea about the price range? Let's say, compared to Europe or the US?
Thanks a lot :)

Cheers, ianchen
