Souvenir gifts Posted: Thu January 10, 2008 04:00 PM UTC
I was in Lyon, France last week where I used to live in my youth. I was looking for souvenirs to bring back with me as a gift for someone, but found nothing that would interest my girlfriend. I was looking for something that was typical "Lyonnais", but mostly found only soccer stuff. I look at the airport and at the Le Part Dieu shopping centre, but found nothing.
Now that I am back home, i would like to know if there is any souvenirs I can buy online. Something that would interest a girl that never been to France and doesnt speak french at all.

Personal opinions needed Posted: Wed December 5, 2007 09:57 AM UTC
Hi everyone,
I'm planning a trip to Lyon and was just wondering if anyone could give me their personal opinions about the following tourist attractions:
·Parc de la Tete d'Or
·River Saone Cruises
·Fourviere Basilica
·Musees des tissus
·Saint Jean Cathedral
I've done some research on each of these such as visiting websites etc.
Just wanting some personal opinions of the attractions.
Merci!
P.S. I was also wondering if anyone could tel me about the quality of these two restaurants and the Park & Suite Part Dieu hotel.
MOMMESSIN RESTAURANT ET VINS
LE CANUT ET LES GONES
They look nice on the site but again i'd like some first-hand experiences.
Thanks again.

Satobus Stops Posted: Sat November 3, 2007 12:58 PM UTC
Hello
I was wondering if anyone can help me - I am going to Lyon next Saturday and am planning on taking the Satobus from the Airport to the city centre. Firstly, is this a good idea as opposed to a taxi?
I am staying at the Grand Hotel Boscolo on Rue Grolee so if I do take the Satobus, where should I get off and how far is it to then get to my hotel? I don;t want to have to carry my luggage for too long as am going with my girlfriend and she is likely to pack everything!
Thanks in advance!

youth hostel in lyon Posted: Thu October 4, 2007 05:37 AM UTC
Hi, I read about your comments on the youth hostel in Lyon, neatly located on the hill. I am planning to visit Lyon in November, and I thought of booking this hostel. I have stayed in a few youth hostels in Europe like Paris, Amsterdam and UK. My concern is very much on safety. I am fine with rowdy environment like drinking & socializing as long as the bedroom is quiet (well depending on the roomates but generally all travelers are very considerate).
Is YFH @ Lyon recommended?
Looking forward to your reply: )

Day trips from Lyon Posted: Sun July 29, 2007 06:06 PM UTC
I'm visiting Lyon for a week in September and was hoping to go on a couple of day trips. I'm going to Lyon by train and so will be relying on public transport. I was considering Grenoble and Saint Etienne, are they worth seeing or would you recommend somewhere else?
Thanks,
Jon

Bar prices Posted: Sun July 29, 2007 06:04 PM UTC
Could anyone tell me how much it is for a beer in Lyon? I was shocked by the price of a beer in Paris, is Lyon much cheaper? How much is a beer (250ml or 500ml) in a touristy pub in Lyon? Are there any places in the city that brew their own beer?
Thanks,
Jon

Lyon to Avignon train Posted: Wed May 30, 2007 06:25 AM UTC
I am trying to find out if there is a TGV from Lyon airport (Aeroport Lyon Saint Exupery) to Avignon for 13.6.07. Some websites say there is and others don't even recognise the airport station. Any help on this would be good. If there is no such train, can I catch a train into Lyon town and then to Avignon or do I need to catch a taxi or bus - hope not as we are travelling from Australia and not looking for too many side trips. Have asked a travel agent and they are no help.
Thanks

4 days in lyon Posted: Tue May 8, 2007 06:34 AM UTC
Hi guys,
I am planning to go to Lyon for a long weekend in June and am a bit lost about lodging. Does anybody know any nice affordable hostel.
Also, I will certainly get a guide book of that area, however, could you recommend any town close to Lyon? I would like to explore all the countryside rather than stay in the city and, most of all, I would like to try wines as I am a big fan of the wine from that area.
Thanks in advance

Any suggestions on craft workshops held in nearby villages? Posted: Tue May 8, 2007 06:12 AM UTC
I shall be heading down to Lyon in mid-June for 3 or 4 days. I would like to join some workshop such as cooking, painting, weaving, handicraft, fabric-making, silk-screening or whatsoever special workshop in local shops or nearby villages.
Does anyone have any suggestion? O, yes, it is important that they will be taught in English!
Thanks all!

Lyon by Bike Posted: Sun May 6, 2007 03:00 AM UTC
Hello,
I will be in Lyon for 2 days and would like to rent a bike for one day... is seeing much of Lyon by bike doable?
Does anyone know of a logical path to follow in order to catch the sites?
The Smart Bike system has a registration process - Can i register directly at the machine or do I have to do this ahead of time?

150 year anniversary of guignol Posted: Tue May 1, 2007 06:00 PM UTC
I have not been to Lyon in a number of years, but when last there, I purchased a Guignol poster. I thought it listed the beginning of the art form to be 1858, which would make next year the 150th anniversary. Are ther any special events planned? We plan to be there the end of April - beginning of May. I would appreciate any help, including hotels and restaurants in addition to guignol -related events. Phil; e-mail is pramthun@hotmail.com. Merci!

Getting to La Chapelle Posted: Mon April 30, 2007 05:35 PM UTC
Hello all,
I've posted this question 4 days ago in the Grenoble forum.
I don't see any traffic there so i am trying this forum as well. :)
I plan to trek in the Les Ecrins and the Vanoise national parks in august.
my starting point is the town of La Chapelle (according to my map is near St. Firmin). the trek will end in Bourg St. Maurice.
After searching the net, i still have some open questions about getting in and out.
as i read, i have a couple of ways to get to La Chapelle and i need your help choosing between them.
1. The first option is flying to Lyon, take the Satobus to the city and from there the train to Grenoble.
2. The second option is flying to Geneva, take some bus (which?) to the train station and then the train to Grenoble.
which way is the fastest?(i want to get to La Chapelle in the same day)
The way from Grenoble to La Chapelle is very unclear to me. i know i have to take the bus to Gap and go down in St. Firmin and take another bus to La Chapelle. but i didn't find anywehere on the internet information regarding the bus timetables and fares. i really need your help on this one.
Thank you very much!
Moshe.

Visit with a toddler Posted: Tue April 3, 2007 07:09 PM UTC
We are visiting Lyon in late June with our two-year old. My husband will be at a conference for most of the time and I'm looking for things that would entertain my son. I have a general travel guide but would be grateful for any tips on playgrounds and other toddler-friendly activities.
